Will this be a good story driven MMO?

I'm hoping this game will deliver with some really good in game story content.  Since it's based on one of the greatest fantasy books of all time, I'm crossing my fingers.  I've only read a few articles online at "Gamespy, Gamespot, and IGN about how the early game is.  But one thing that caught my eye was some of the early instancing.  It seems they show you some cut scenes to further the story along.  Sounds new and interesting to me.  I usually only see that in single player offline RPG's.  I've been hoping for a good in game story for a while now.  I've only played WoW & FF11 online and the story was lacking in WoW and only a little better in FF11.  I think a good story line can only immerse you in the game more.  I don't see it being a distraction really.  Although people who love to grind all day may find it boring.  If anyone has any more tidbits of info or opinions that would great.  Or any corrections about the instancing would be kewl also .  Thanks.

After reading your post i went back to look at all the movie/videos of the game, and do some other research. I think that this is going to be a great game with awesome story/plot. I think this will be a great story driven MMO because J.R.R. gave alot of info in his books. So there will be alot for the game disgners too work off of. The game also should have an easy time with updates seeing as the southern lands aren't in the game yet. *I have also found out something out that was very interesting. Walmart is now preordering the game!!! It's said to be releasted the 5th of january!* And seeing this I am going to be looking for a fellowship to join, or make one of my own. So please let me know if you'd like to help with either of those. My E-mail can be offered if you'd like to discuss it farther. Now the one thing that has been driving me insane... what race to pick. I know it sound strange but you have to choose the right one. Cast your vote on what you think is the best of the four races.

Walmart has fixed to release date! Now coming out 04/24/07!

*Blue meaning that was fixed. Sorry for any inconvenience.

shipping date is 2nd qtr 2007, i don't know where you work, but the walmart in this area have no release date yet...

One Gamestop in my area has it set for 24 April, 2007. But no official word has come from Turbine on when the game will be released, or when the Pre-Ordering will start - It usually starts about the time that the game goes into an Open Beta status.... at least that is my experience.

Please dont give out false information - be honest and say "I don't know" Better to be ignorant, then stupid (and yes there is a difference).

Back on topic - from all that I have read, and seen about this game - it will be a story driven, questing game., using the books as a backdrop for the characters and NPC's in the game itself.

They did a brilliant job with the early instancing. Take a bit of time to even realise it was instanced. Wont say anything else about the rest of the game though.

The Devs have not spoken of an official release date, but many feel the game should be ready by late Spring.

Story Driven?  What story do you want?  Read the book if you want the story!  An MMO shouldn't be story driven, it should be WORLD driven.  As far as a game like LOTRO is concerned I would just like to live and interactive in the wonderfully detailed world of middle earth brilliantly recreated as a persistent 3D world.   The closer to Tolkiens vision the better.  As to whether this is what we will get or not, is left to be seen.  I hope they don't just go and make up a bunch of stuff that never was and put it in there as 'content' tho, as this always makes me upset.

Okay, this should put this story driven/exploring argument to rest.

The game will have "THE" story in game. they are broken up in 'books' and 'chapters'

On top of that are the hundreds of other quests that are available.

You can 'choose' to do the story, or books if you want. or the quests, or both.

You dont need to do the books at all.

The books, or the story or the ring, will immerse you in the world for sure, but you are of course free to do what ever you like.

So if you want to do the whole story, for start to finish, you can do so. or if you rather to not bother with the story driven part of the game, feel free to skip them.

The game starts every race in there own 'story' that starts the ball rolling.  after the initial instance, you are free to do what ever you like.

Pre-orders started a long time ago. If you want to pre-order, go to your local Gamestop or EBGames. I don't think Wal-Mart does pre-orders, but I could be wrong. I don't buy anything computer related from Wal-Mart so I couldn't answer that.

The opening sequence is just a cinematic show. You cant effect it, you just watch the event unfold. And after that 2 minutes is over the grind sets in. Turbine might call it books or stories but all I saw was the same boring crap most MMO's deploy...go kill 5 wolves, go collect 8 herbs, go find and deliver this note.

Im no huge fan of  WoW but their quests are much much better than LOTR.
