The Intel Core 2 Extreme X6700 or QX6700?

I have been debating this for a longgg time now and i was wondering if i should get the dual core x6700 with 3.0 ghz speed or the quad core qx6700 with 2.7ghz?

Not really an appropriate place for this question.

This is an MMO forum for Vanguard, not Circuit City.

For now the Dual core, games just don't use the 4 cores, they only use 2 max and most only 1 :P I don't think Vanguard is even optimised for dual cores anyways. Benchmark results show dual core is much better for gaming atm because its core speed is faster and games arnt optimised for quad core.

Better Quadcore processors will come out when we need them (like in 2008/2009 probally) and save yourself a few hundred and get the dual core.

I'm referring specifically to the needs of vanguard kind sir, I'm not an idiot i know where to post what is appropriate and not appropriate.  I'm sorry if i did not state which would be better for VANGUARD.

And thank you end_of_a_era i might as well go for the dual core with more clock speed.

First off, you didnt say you were asking purely for Vanguard. Secondly, you dont purchase a processor for one game, and thirdly, I never said you were an idiot.

I would go for the dual core one. We are still in the early days of dual core, and not many games support that yet. So you will do fine with a dual core for a long time. Vanguard and most other games require the most of a video card and not the processor . So save some bucks on the processor (As long as you don't go down on single core ) and invest that in 1 or more videocards (SLI, Crossfire).
