1 week in... some opinions. (A quasi-noob review)

Okay.. so.. rolled up a Minmitar "The Koala".  Been a week of playing.. and here's my insights from an EVE rookie stand point.

Combat:  Starts off very cut & dry.  You shoot.  They shoot.  You hope you live.  Now, My destroyer has 3 turrets firing, a missle launcher re-loading, target painting my main target, weapon jamming another, while I'm watching my cap. so I can still manage to recharge my shields if they hit me too hard.  Combat is boring until you get skills to make it fun. But boy does it get fun!

Crafting:  Bzzzzt.. bzzzzt... bbbbbbzzzzt.  That sound you'll learn to love, hate and hear in your sleep.  Your mining lasers.  Crafting is moderately fun.  I'm still not sure if you can "experiment / tweak" on what you make.. but.. so far.. I can make a Shuttle!  :) heh.

Missions:  Learn to look for navigation beacons & acceleration gates.  Once you learn that.. missions are fun.  Though.. sometimes.. the rewards are a bit, odd.  ..I got 20 units of Live Stock.  Hamburgers anyone?

Graphics:  Beautiful.  Simply, beautiful.

Overall, I enjoy EVE.  Once I get a little older, I'll look into PVP and fleets + corps.. but so far... the game is amazingly fun.

Nice to see a new person enjoying the game so much. What I like about Eve is that you always feel like a rookie. There is always something you never knew and always other avanues to explore. In comparison to Everquest where I played for a year or so and then I thought to myself  "wow I know everything...this is boring".

Well have fun with your life in eve and remember to try to specialize yourself.

And remember that it's never too early to try your hand at PvP or fleet ops (well, if you have a corp/alliance that is into this sort or thing).

If you can fit an ECM jammer or a warp disruptor or a stasis webifier or, hell, a good afterburner/microwarpdrive, then you can be a real help in any PvP squad.  Don't think you have to be in a huge expensive ship to fight other players.  Sometimes a tech 1 frigate with a warp disruptor and a webifier is the most valuable member of a team.

combat in eve only really gets interesting when its against other players - then its better then in any other games I've played .

There is always room in any PVP corp for extra tacklers so don't let fact that you don't have many skill points put you off , eve is about brains as much as skills, all you really need to be able to use is a webber, scram and mwd - a nos is handy if you find yourself running low on power.

Also its really worth getting your leaning skills trained up as soon as possible.
