Taram.. read my post.. I said People RP in every game .  This includes EVE.

see this   <======   This is used when telling a joke.

Now re-read my post pause for the joke and you will see that we are in 100% agreement on this.  That is unless you are one of those that use the tearm toon and were offended?

As a general statement (not really as a reply to anyone). Those people who don't think EVE is for roleplaying should check out the interstellar summit forum. I don't read it that much, but there are some very good roleplayers there, and that roleplaying extends into the game itself. (The CVA and Ushra'Khan Alliances are prime examples.)

Bah, don't bite guys! Ok too late, but the OP clearly is just having a little tantrum at the fact that what he thinks is "cool" isn't shared by everyone else on this site. He hasn't even bothered to reply to his own thread.

There was a similar thread about this not so long ago, and someone said "just because McDonalds is the most popular restaurant, it doesn't mean it's the best one". That to me is pretty much what seems to be the case with WoW. McDonalds has Ronald McDonald, and WoW has Female Night-Elves.

Why is it not an RPG?

Just taking the roleplay alliances into consideration you have thousands of players. Eve actually enforces roleplay to an extent so I really don't know how you came to your conclusion.

Eve IS the best MMORPG out there.

EVE is more of an RPG than any Final Fantasy game is and people accept those as being called RPGs.  Regardless, the people who visit this site usually have been around the block when it comes to MMOGs.  I know I can safely say after playing well over 5 MMOGs including WoW that EVE is the best MMOG.  It isn't hard for me to believe that others would come to the same conclusion as I.

That's why it always made me wonder.  how much is that company paying you guys, www.mmorpg.com to boost their game, make it look like it's the best MMOG out there, when games like World of Warcraft's population keeps increasing and will soon reach 8 million players in just 2 weeks with the 1st expansion.  With games like Lineage II still dominating the asian MMORPG market with over 1 million players.

And here you have some multiplayer scifi space strategy/action game that somehow manages to get on the top of on a webpage dedicated to Massive Multiplayer Online ROLE PLAYING GAMES.

So admit it, mmorpg.com.  How much are they paying you to make sure Eve Online stays on the top to attract customers?  It's funny how it works though.  Many times I see people write: "OMG WoW SUCKS!!!!  I'm gonna go play Eve Online, I heard it was awesome" ... then not even a few days later, they are back in WoW saying how much Eve Online sucked.

    ERRRRRR £3.50

There you are question answered now go back to WoW please and stop crying [Hands over a hanky].

Might it be that Eve wins awards just because it is not DULL as WoW ? Or maybe is it that pre-teens play WoW and pre-teens dont spend time voting for awards ? And just how many players do you have online at WoW, at the same time, same Universe or whatever you call it over there ? Last time I checked Eve held the record for that...

As for not being RPG, well you're damn wrong. Try to play it in a way that you actualy do anything besides undocking and blowing up a few targets, ask around to see how many thousand ppl roleplay in Eve and next time you wont write all this nonsense.

Well. First off. I'm a Roleplayer. I've been playing all kinds of RPG for more then 17 years. But the only MMORPG I play is EvE. The reason for that is because everything else I have seen isn't a RPG.. WoW isn't a RPG. It doesn't have close to the level of player freedom a ROLEPLAYING GAME needs.

Roleplaying is not about Stats or character advancement. RP is about freedom. And how to handle the concequences of your actions. How you interact with the characters meet.

EvE is about freedom. To do what you want and to build a dream of your own. You can kill players in High security. You can Carebear in 0.0 space. You can make your living by selling infomation. You can PvP from day one.

I can't say too much about WoW since I have played it too little to make a complete diagnostic. But one thing I can say it's not even close to a Roleplaying game. I have roleplay game ELEMENTS yes. But it's not a roleplaying game. The Sims is more of a PRG then WoW.

WoW is a great fun tho for short times to get a fix of action from time to time.

Long live T.W.E.R.P.S.             (And if you don't know what it is you're no roleplayers)
  • MukeMuke Member RarePosts: 2,614
well, played many mmorpgs in the past, and if any game should be kicked out of the mmorpg list it's World of Warcraft.

I like RPG, and I haven't encountered any RPG so far in WOW, not even on the RPG servers apart from a few players.

What WOW is all about is the same 1 thing: addiction on Epics.

There's nothing more to do there.

Slaying Sesame Street styled Big Birds and their minions every night with crying boys suffering from heavy hormone attacks during puberty is NOT rpg.

Wow is all about epic epic epic epic epic epic epic.

That's why it's so succesful, it's meant to be a semi-MMOG for children who don't want a learning curve.

And compared to the WHINING that happens in WOW (average age 12), EVE is heaven compared to that.

Also a game like EVE where 30.000 players can meet each other compared to the few thousands on a single WOW server makes EVE the winner.

And the fact that it takes effort to learn the game and therefore keeps the children (like the poststarter) out, is only a good thing.

therefore, WOW aka Sesame Street Online; is the loser.

And I can only hope CCP don't make the game easier in order to lure WOW players.

I've played both games, like many of your posts before. I have a lvl 60 hunter, and 60 Warlock.   Eve has so much more dept than any other mmorpg i've played, and I've played a lot of them. Eve is a winner standing on its own, it doesn't need a blog site to get it there.... I'm really supprised that someone would think that a single blog site could.....

When I started playing EVE the topic for their main webpage said "MMORPG", but it's described as an MMOG in the FAQ. That's about the only bit of truth in this thread's OP.

There is quite a lot of roleplaying that does happen in EVE though, it's just most players don't bother to find it. They just want to pew pew pew and get angry when they aren't level 60 in a week and yell about it.

Take the time to learn the stories behind EVE and get to know the people of EVE, and you'll see it's far more RPG than just an MMOG, no matter what it's called.

I know of several different corps that are RP corps.  I know 1 alliance in particular that only flys Amarrian as they is their race.  They are constantly at war.  As the quote suggests, one needs to read the chronicles, read about the organizations and then just feet first into RPing one of the races.

WoW players are generalized and wanting everything easy, I disagree with that to an extent.  EvE does require a lot of thought.

Why do these EvE posts always drag WoW into the fight, why do EvE players have to try and drag WoW down, sounds more like envay than hate to me.

For Mature players you sure do like to flame and act like children when some makes a comment you dont like about your EvE, if your so mature you'll come back with facts and sensible replys.

To all EvE players, you are not superior to others who play WoW, EQ or any other MMO, its just you like EvE while others dont.

Ive been playing WoW for 14months I have yet to meet any 1 under the age of about 17, i base this on the fact I play from about 19:00 to 24:00 and my guild of 120+ people are all aged 18+.  As to 30,000 online, so that 30,000 on screen right? no that 30,000 on linked servers who can chat.. thats not hard to do, blizz have added a similar systems caled XRealms where players from upto 10 realms can PvP so id say thats more than 30,000.  I wanna see a screen of 120+ EVE players on screen at the same time.  I'll make a snap of that in WoW the next time our guild raid Orgrimmer.

WoW is a casual game EvE is a Hardcore game comparing them is complety stupid.  And FYI there are kids in EvE too just WoW has 6,900,000 more players than EvE so we probably get a few more kids than EvE.

I keep wanting to try EvE but then read posts like this, ill w8 till EvE players mature a bit.  "yeah well we dont want noobs like you, go play your cartoon game ans talk to 6 year olds" there I said it for you do no need to reply.

Note: this wasnt a flame on all EvE players just the jerks ( like Muke ) who refuse to believe that people might no like EvE but do like WoW.

EvE not being a RPG is utter bullcrap to be honest.

RPG doesnt need to be in character relating to the world in question, you dont need to be connected to the backstory of the ingame world in order to RPG. When you adopt a different character from your own while playing then you are RPG'ing, when you do something inside a game that you wouldnt think about doing in real life your having fun with RPG.

When you play EvE politics you are playing RPG.

When you are working war for your corporation fighting over territory your RPG'ing.

When you infiltrate  a corporation trying to make it vulnerable from the inside, guess what? Your RPG'ing....

But I guess some people are just so dilluted with their dungeons and dragons experience that they feel like you need a sword and a avatar to roleplay. But guess what, there is more RPG in EvE than on RPG servers in your precious WoW. Another thing, the roleplay in EvE lets you connect to the world, be active in the worlds politics, particpating in battles that change the face of the world, help develop tactics and methods that shape the markets around you, so in essence your linked directly into the communal experience of EvE....

Dont like EvE? many people dont, I dont post on WoW forums how much I think WoW stinks and you should perhaps maintain the same curtosy?

This is also why EvE does well in open public polls like the one this site pulls up, everyone is connected, the community is HUGE and they actually speak to one another and tell each other to come to this site to participate in the polls. Still only 20 thousand people particpated in this survey this site did... The 7 million people that play wow were to busy talking about nerfing other classes and rolling on items in instances (much roleplay there ey?).

A community that doesnt stand behind it's game should just sit back and enjoy their own experience and leave the rest of us alone.

Yes that and the fact that all other MMO's removed the links from their forums and disnt not splash it on the main page cus this site has gold selling and leveling links or maybe cus we're too busy playing our WoW or EQ to come here and vote.

they should give this site a new url www.mmoeve.com any 1?

Do you have a 1300 character Alliance fighting a 4000 character alliance in those raid to ogrimmar? It's a little bit more than a large chat channel my friend. Ive participated in battles with 150+ people on each side. Currently a war is reaching it's end where those 1300 characters won those 4000+ guys and guess what it took roughly 4 months and that is not a long war.

Yes I know WoW and EvE are different, but you shouldnt be preaching that people bash WoW and then in the same frigging post start bashing EvE my friend it makes you look stupid.

BTW, average age of members in my corporation in EVE is around 24 years old. and we have one or two under 17 years of age.

By linking this site on their main page CCP is acknowledging that they consider this site to be worth noticing and even though currency selling in EvE is considered a problem it's not as a large problem as it's in other games.

And to busy playing to vote? Then again why complaining about it? if you dont care then you should continue not to care, yes?

    - all are immature losers

    - need no skill

    - commnity sux

    - gfx are crap

    - its a grind

    - reach lvl 60 in 2 seconds

.....oh w8 thats what EvE players say about WoW.

but i did bash some of the EvE fanboys that lurk around www.mmoeve.com but I never bashed the game... cus ive never played it... unliek EvE's who bash WoW and have never played it.

didnt YOU start this thread on the EvE forums?

quick search on www.eve-files.com turned up this pic http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/DRKizan/Fleet_Battle.jpg and if your more curious then I implore you to spend a few minutes on that site and go through the files, expecially the videos.

Granted it's not 150+ on each side, but thats how a large engagement looks like in eve and the larger one only have more blibs on the screen, it's laggy and looks unimpressive to people that dont play, thats how it is with EvE.

But your blood gets pumping, I never found this rush when playing my epic equiped hunter or priest in WoW, the grind exists in EvE as it does in wow, the difference is that in EvE you feel that it matters. Your not completing all the end game instances with the same plans as all the other people playing the game, yes Im bashing WoW now, but I can I spent 13 months in that game and ive spent more than 4 years in EvE.

And regarding all the flaming :) thats how it's done in EvE.... The world is a shitty place get used to it.

Go to www.eve-online.com and find the link to the forums, find the one called corporations and alliance forum and look at it. The EvE community is outright hostile at times, but most of us look at it as roleplay :) If you dont like it then I wouldnt try the game. The forums are down now because of an extended downtime, but it should be up tomorow. (why im here)

CCP doesnt support gold sellers, eve doesnt have gold as a currency. isk sellers are banned on regular basis, the problem is just not as severe as in other games, the smaller economy of the smaller servers in WoW and EQ are more vulnerable to gold sellers messing with inflation.

this mmoeve isnt really funny :) well maybe in a small way, but it just means that the players that play eve care about their game.
