How do I change the movement controls?

in Final Fantasy XI
Hey there, I'm new to FFXI and I'm really hating the current controls (mouse click/numpads) for movement. I know it can be changed to WASD, and have gotten so far as to the keyboard mapping, but I can't find how to switch from mouse clicks to using the keyboard. Whenever I hit a key it comes up in the chat prompt. Please tell me how to switch!

    I'm at work so I can't give you exact instructions but go to the menu -> second menu -> config -> misc 2 (I believe, or misc 1?) change keyboard layout to "Compact" tada WASD, spacebar to type, r for autorun, h for rest and so on (the small folding guide that came with ffxi is very handy if you are just getting used to compact mode.

    I played this game for about 2 years on PS2 and PC. I know alot of PC snobs don't like to hear it but this game really controls best with a dual analog control pad. The game was designed to be playable on a console and it shows even in the PC interface.

    This game was designed to be played whatever way you like it.. I play purely with hokeys/macros just like I did WoW, EQ2 and so on, I'd never be able to play like I want with a gamepad. I play BLM and WHM just consider the sheer amount of spells I have, have fun navigating menus or macro palettes to cast the correct spell.

    Compact controls have been bugged since 2003 (I think) on the pc and PS2 .. they are also bugged 360, they get stuck alot , forcing you to move in a linear direction or just stuck. When you select something in the menu for attack , or magic the keys get stuck , Square says it a known issue with PCs and they say it created by a user over using the keys (pressing them too fast).

    I've never had this happen to me or anyone I know, where are you guys pulling all these "facts" from? /shrug

    Thank you guys so much! Not being able to change to WASD would've made me quit the game. So used to AA, WoW, EQ, etc's controls.
