Who here plans on playing on a server runnig a SWG Emulator? And will you play pre-CU or the CU version? I've been following it for awhile and am just curious how much interest there is among the refugee swg people.
Emu's are crap and they aint even close to getting the game to what it once was + it can never be once what it was because the community doesnt exist anymore.
You might be right. I have hardly any experience with emulators (played a UO emulator for a bit) so I wouldn't really know. But there were great communities on every server when SWG was live. There is still a massive community that is still great of disgruntled vets, don't you think it's at least a try? I know I will at least try it out on the most populated server and try to get as many of my old crew from Kauri to try it out as well. I'm actually really excited to try it out. You don't think it's at least worth a look?

Look at emulator screenshots.
Now count the ones that do not feature Jedi or LS in one form or another.
That should give a good impression of the target audience of emulators.
Jedi, in normal gameplay, would take 3-6 months to even unlock, while everything else would need to function already.
I'm not sure I take your meaning. I don't think it's a problem for them to create any character right now, and if you're gonna make a game world, and choose to be any combat profession to make a movie to show the progress of the combat coding for the emulator, what better proffession than Jedi.
I'm not sure what you're fear is. But everything I've read from the two groups leading these seperate projects (swgemu = precu, openswg = cu) states that they are writing the code EXACTLY as it was for pub 12 and pub 24 respectively. Beyond that, it will be up to the individual servers that run the game what their rulesets will be for unlocking/playing jedi. And the main ones I have looked at aren't exactly sure how they are gonna treat the path to jedi/playing jedi but that it will ultimately come down to what the community wants.
I don't know, I'm not sayig the emulators will be as good as the original, I'm not saying we would have as much fun...but honestly, even if they only capture half of what the original SWG captured it will draw the right community and it will still be the only game worth playing right now. I've been trying so hard to find a good MMO that excited me ever since the NGE hit...and I just can't find one. Don't you think it will at least be worth a look? It's all free.
Syrik, I am right there with you. Heck, I even donated a little money to both. Naysayers should go check out the sites. The community and the game could be really good. The thing that I don't think that ALOT of people are considering is IF things work out: a sandbox MMORPG set in the Star Wars realm that is PRISTINE. Just the possibility of being part of that makes me releaswe. *Ahhhhh*
Oh yeah, did I mentioned the servers are FREE!?!
Btw, we are going to get in trouble because we aren't supposed to talk about the E word on these forums. I am now probably banned so, I hope to see ya's sometime in game.....

Ah crap, I had no idea we were'nt allowed to talk about the "e" word on here. I suppose it would hurt their relationship with the different companies making legit games if they let "e" talk run rampant. My apologies to mmorpg.com. But I have to get this one last plug in. If you have been hankering for a taste of pre-cu or even cu SWG, and lets be honest, you all have...then by all means at least check out swgemu.com and openswg.com.
Umm, a little friendly advice, the forums on SWGEmu can be vicious (largely unmoderated) to the dumb (they deserve it ) so read the FAQ's before you start posting. Remember, you are on a free site.
