Observations of L2 after a week

Deathstrike2Deathstrike2 Member UncommonPosts: 1,777

The game seems to have a lot of potential after a week of play.  The graphics continue to impress me, and there seems to be a lot of areas to explore.  The music is immersive and a nice touch.

I think they could vastly improve the game by adding more quests so you're not repeating the same ones over and over though.  This adds to the grindy feel that this game is already famous for.  You'd still be grinding but at least it wouldn't feel like it.  Additionally, there should be more documentation.  I'm finding a lot out through trial and error or by reading the board posts.  A lot of good basic info is missing from the game booklet.  Also, I'm still not seeing much of a community.  Apparently, there's a lot of dwarfs in the world, but no one is at the keyboard.  Of course, I'm still only lvl 17, and have been told that I don't get much interaction with real people until higher levels.  That's unfortunate.

Overall, I'm surprised by how nice the game is considering all the bad reviews it gets from others.  Let's see what week 2 brings.

It's a good game. Better than most. It's just a tough game, many people have played it and quit shortly after. It rubs people the wrong way often.

Most people with the name 234kjhfakjsdhfska = bots. Don't even bother with them. I played the game for 6 months and the only reason I quit was not because the game pissed me off, it was because i accomplished all the goals that I cared about accomplishing and the game had nothing left for me. I only got to lvl 70 just to get to lvl 70, but now i have a lvl 70 gladiator and in reality, i have no reason to continue playing that i think is worthwhile.

Enjoy the game, it's not as bad as people say, it's certainly not perfect, but it's not a bad game.

Week 2 will bring you your class change quest, it will bring you to Dion, the catacombs, and the reality of the brutal economy. Well, the economy is brutal if you dont' play the Staples's Easy (trademark) button and ebay ;). I assume weeks 2-4 or more may bring you through lvl 20-40, you'll have fun with the option of doing those raid bosses, it's easier based on the class, that's a nice twist. Lvl 40, perhaps week 4 or 5 will bring you your most important class change quest, this will determine your place in the game basically at higher levels, the class change quests are insanely long but quite gratifying when you complete it. Then weeks 5 - infinity will bring you the grind, both xp and economy (without staples easy (trademark) button).

Oh I thought the music in teh game was absolutely orgasmically awesome, you can go on their website and listen to the music. I think aesthetics catacombs (probably a different name now) near spider haven next to DE village or something, has great music. Also, hunter's village has great music too. Human village is very nice as well. That fascinated me when i first began. The graphics are amazing, truly kudos to NCsoft for that.

I agree, the music is amazing as well as the Art Design.

    To the OP:

L2 isn't about quests. Quests really are more utilitarian. L2 is about player interaction and pvp. The players are the game. Once you get higher level you will get into a clan and will get to experience more of that.

There are actually some good quests out there, but there are a couple quests that will really rub you the wrong way (like trying to collect 30 Ol Mahum Captain heads, and it takes killing 300 of them -- why do these gnolls not have heads?! AAAH).

But really, Lineage 2 might be "one big grind" with good pvp and sieges, but the grind is part of what the game is. Find yourself a levelling partner (or partners) and talk while enjoying the fighting, the scenery, dungeons, music, character models, etc. Go find new areas to level in, try new tactics out, or even practice fighting against your levelling partner. Just try to make the grinding aspect of levelling up the fun part, because it can be. When you get higher up, there'll be more to do, but that may take a little while.

Ah well I just want to mention that there is enough to be done between 20 and 60. Make some friends (maybe you have some from real life who are playing with you), and organize a raid for 20+ . Imo, that can be just as fun as a raid from lvl 60. Also like cryo said, necropolisses and cata's are fun too. Quests are in my opinion more an extra during the grinding, next to the money drop. Although quests maybe found boring in LineageII, I think they're boring in every game. In WoW I had to find like 300 plants, and then they say lineage is only; talk with this guy, grind this mobs, and come back. Anyways, you should visit giran when you can. You'll be overwhelmed by the amount of people there.

Its a game you either like or don't like. Thats the reason it gets pounded so hard. Especially by todays gamers who are use to an easier / forgiving game mechanic. Either you love it or hate it.

Most reviewers never make it to high levels so they inevitably miss the "point" of the game which is higher end politics / social / guild conflict. All reviewers really get to see is the tough grind and thats what they judge it on. You can tell that most of the reviewers where low level because their reviews very rarely talk about the higher end gameplay at all. In a heavily social game like L2 it takes alot of time to really get a idea of what its about, its not like WoW that glides you through in 3 or 4 weeks.  Without being a large politically active guild, you are only playing about 1/4th of the game.

The info on the internet can be outdated depending where you look because they shuffle things and change them with every chronicle including the names of areas. Its pretty annoying at times.

Its hard for many of the sites to keep up. I would say visit the official or www.l2warcry.com that one is pretty updated. www.l2vault.com is ok but they seem to struggle to keep up with the changes. Its a pretty dead site anyways. Other then that there are a ton of really good guild run sites. I use to have a link for a guild that had a ton of quest walkthoughs including C5 quest, step by step with screenshots. Damn, I wish I saved it.

They are out there, you gotta comb through them.

    Also look at

www.l2wh.com this site is one of the most important sites if you plan on being a successful long term player.

I agree with the earlier posts...I have played Lineage 2 for around a year now, and while it is true the grind is long and will sometimes make you wonder if you want to keep playing.  It is also the reason why most of the young immature crowd don't hang around too long.  The quests arent really a necessity to the game, but there are some really good and innovative things that it offers you that many other MMO's around now dont have, like siege's.  The economy is probably the hardest to deal with part of the game,  but you will eventually get to the point where you will be able to make a lot of money selling the eq you get from raids and certain bosses.

The community is also pretty good for Lineage 2 also,  you might not notice this until you get a little higher level and get into a guild and stuff,  but trust me its there.

    Anyway,  thats my 2 cents..

after a decade of playing l2 i quit. now after they closed a few private servers, how about they make an end to the bot problem. but nop, all they want is money, i joined because first i thought "i dont care about the bots i still play my way,but as i get deeper into the community i understood how fuxed up it is, all high lvl players get gear from ebay and adena from botters. The whole market is a mess and the grind gets  worse. It is not worth it.

    l2 player since the beginning.

Oh well in my opinion you can earn much more respect if you just lvl your character by yourself , and never ebay or any similar stuff like that. I don't care that there are bots.. every game has them, one more then another. If you have a fun clan with nice people there always fun stuf to experience.

Lineage 2 definitely has its problems and I have finally realized why I had fun in Lineage 2, it was because I was playing with some of my RL friends... When I played alone, it was verrry boring.. I may join back regardless of the time I have and the grind if my friends do just to have some fun again in grouping and doing other stuff.

Got trial key from http://l2.onlinewelten.com/ and I must say first 18 levels in l2 have been blast for me. Only thing that might get me away from this game is grind and lack of friends to play with. I am allready noticing how slowly but constant grind is getting harder and harder. Thing I like about this game is you dont need to do quests all time, one can just go mindlessly kill mosters for hours and hours.  I allmost forgot to mention when I went to one big town and I sow like 300+ stores and prices for equipment allmost made me cry everything is expensive and no way new player can afford much at start. Sad thing is evryone I have asked about how to make money have told me to ebay. Other then that I love 3D, world  and animations.

Only lazy people ebay (unless there completely ignorant to how the game works when it comes to gear). Once you get some friends and a nice clan to hang out with, you can come up with ways to make money. Even solo, if you seed and pay attention to the market, you can make plenty of money. Four friends and I went in together and crafted a run of A grade weapons last week, and we each made about 60mil in profits, doubling our investment. All it took was a week's worth of night time buy shops and a day of just crafting the molds and other mats.

Even without capital to do thigns like that on a regular basis, you can still make 3-5 mil a week with some casual seeding, and a little luck turning it all in.
