Realm versus Realm Concept

From what I read and hear the three realm concept of DAoC (Hibs, Mids and Albs) will not be repeated with Warhammer. I just wonder how important the magical three may turn out to be, and if Warhammer is only two realms whether it will fail to replicate the success of DAoC and turn out to a boring as Horde versus Alliance.

I doubt it, after all in (the only game ive played with 3 way PvP) Planetside the player base was effectivly divided into two halves.

    those with you,

    those against you.

sure, those against you occasionally stopped and had a bit of a scrap between themselves, but it was effectivly two sides.

I don't think WoW's 'RvR' was boring because it had two sides, I think it was boring because it was poorly implimented. The game didn't focus on the fight between the factions at all. The only reason why people fought each other in PvP was to gank each other. It was completely pointless.

    Say what?!?!

I have played PS since Mid 03.. What on earth are you talking about...

Personally I think if they don't make the same mistake as WOW and kill outdoor PVP and actually give us reasons to PVP outside(land ownership) I think the two sided conflict will be fine, AO did it and it turned out ok.

I also think that it will leave room from them to bring a 3rd or perhaps forth side in the game in future expansions. Which in turn will keep people interested in the game.

people have either green tags above their heads, or red tags above their heads.

    friend or enemy.

If both the VS and the TR wanted to cap say Ixtab and you were sitting in a wall gun, there were two sides. your team and everyone else. granted, once one of them had capped it they had a scrap between themselves and we went off to cap something else. as a boots-on-the-ground player, there were only ever people to heal, and people to shoot.

And it just so happens that those people you shoot at were 2 different Empires.. I think I understand what your saying but the point is that there were and still are and always will be (it appears) 3 sides in Planetside.

And last time I played (Sept 06) you had to worry about what EACH of the other empires were up to.

    I agree completely.

And while I originally had the same concern as the OP, the more I looked into the dynamics of WAR's RvR system, the more that concern faded. I did really enjoy the three factions in DAOC, but when you think about it, there will still be three war fronts at release with the faction pairings, so it won't just be back and forth in the same place. You will have multiple regions to divert your forces. Also, from what has been mentioned thus far, new expansions should eventually bring new races...which means even more options for zone control. I think that this will more than make up for the absence of a third realm.
