For anyone who knows the basic info about this game knows that they want a release date of January. They probaly also know that they recently just went into open beta. My question first came to me when I was talking with a friend who works for a very big gamer magazine. You probaly have a copy on your desk. He thought the same thing as me. He was also talking to the senior editor of the same magazine and the senior editor thought the same thing as well. My question at first seems so simple, but when you really look into the question I realized it got more complex and even more complex then my understanding.
Why is Sigil online pushing for a late January release when just last week they didn't even have there diplomacy quests in the game? The game seems to have potential but the simple fact is, there not ready for release at all.
My friend pointed out a very good point to me. But before I actually state my point I just want to say this is not a SOE bashing post and I am not being biased. He pointed out to me that when Microsoft was there publisher they were nice and slow, keeping things at a nice pace, working on some amazing graphics. Then When SOE took publishing over it has seemed they have been getting pushed. Before SOE took over there was no release date. Once SOE did take over there was a release date, not to mention they have a pre-order pack you can buy which doesn't include the real game at all. It only allows you to (this is my favorite part) get Invited to a Open beta. IF there was ever an oxymoron for me then that would be it right there.

STOP!
Just please stop it
You know, i know, and everyone else knows that this game is being rushed to release
You are the reason this is being done - this is your fault!
Sony knows that there are bunch of idiots out there that will buy this game on release no matter what condition it is in - and they are right
Everyone else that has at least 2 brain cells to rub together would be very happy to wait until the game is ready

Well at the end of the day whoever is providing the funding has a point where they arent going to provide more money for no return.
And if the game has hit that point, then they basically publish the game, or shut it down and never release it.
With around a hundred staff their salaries must be around the 500,000 to 1 million a month mark. So instead of complaining here about the game being released early - ask Sony (assuming they are funding development - despite what Brad said) to cough up 3 million so the game can be released in April.
Thats on-top of the millions they will be spending to actually put the game in store.
So its back to you - do you want it rushed to release - or never released and 100 people lose their jobs? I guess whoever just isnt prepared to keep pouring money down the drain until everyone thinks its ready.
As an example - look at Games Workshop. A few years ago they spent something like $10 million developing a MMORPG and then pulled the plug on the project.
So on the flip-side I guess they figure they can find a 100,000 or more suckers to buy the game and keep funding it tills its finished so they can re-coup some of their costs.
But hey - no-one is forcing you to buy it after its rushed to release. And since you are prepared to wait, you should have no problem coming back in 12 months when everyone else has finished paying for the development.

yup - you've got it
i will check it out in about a years time
and thanks for your $230 investment - really
game is obviously being rushed out, if sony is banking the whole project then i might understand why.
PS3 is destroying sony, it costs more to make one then it does to sell one and there barely even selling the ones their making, anyway sony is in the hole big time and its actually possible for them to go bankrupt so i can see why they might rush any development on anything they have cause they need the money fast.
now before you go off and say everything i just stated about sony is not true look it up and read about it. you'll see how insane the amount of money that went into creating the ps3 is.
take it or leave it, and i know how much my grammer sucks so i just saved you nerds the trouble of calling me out on it cause i know how much you love to do that.
flame on

and another thing - hehe
whatever happened to actually releasing a quality product?
if you run out of cash, whatever the item is - if it is not ready or inferior or not what you were aiming for don't put it out there for sale
in other words
JUST SHUT IT DOWN!
first off, they have had diplomacy quests in the game for months, just not for all races, so it's not like they are only starting to test diplomacy as a sphere now, its been tested. Now it's just a matter of adding more diplomacy quests throughout the world.
However I do agree that they shouldn't be releasing for a few more months if they want to have a succesful launch(which is an intrical part of long term success), having said that, i'm still enjoying it in it's current state more than any other current MMO, and i'll be there at launch for sure.
And by the way, brad himself said that SoE gave them more time that microsoft would have on the beta forums, so saying things would have been better with microsoft is pretty much, well...wrong.
well if you can find tons of wii's at a store please tell me where cause i cant even find a damn nunchuck controller!!! and of course 360's are on the shelves they've been out for a year! i would hope that a year after its release you wouldnt have to call a store to make sure they have a console in stock
currently in sac wii's are going on craigs list for 400-500 so if you see them on shelves in stores leme get their number asap
So what this really comes down to is the game will ship before it is completely ready and we will be paying for a beta game. Not quite that bad but it will be seriously lacking in polish and rough. That said I've been in beta for over a year and they have done amazing things. I'm confident that they will continue what they have begun and this will be an amazing game with a scope unparalleled in any game today.
So I've got my preorder in, I want to be on this ship as it leaves Fact is I'm looking forward to actually starting a real character

Ya i can live with that , i love the beta even with a few faults, show me any game you have played that you didnt have to over look some faults to enjoy
All gladly let them finish it on my dime. I preordered two one for me, one for the wife Both GE edtions lol
What worries me even more is that the diplomacy system isn't really diplomacy at all.
They didn't take the time to write out dialogues ..
They give you cards that say ANGRY JUXTAPOSITION and CALM POINT and REASONABLE FACT.
What little dialogue there is prints in another window and doesn't in any way reflect the cards you are playing.
I mean, for example, there are people who call Van's graphics outdated and those who call it stunningly beautiful - screenshots look beautiful enough for me (for an MMO), but still. If people can't decide whether graphics are any good or not, there's controversy enough, no? At least that should be easy enough to decide, not to mention more complex stuff gameplay is made of - so yeah, I'm confused...
And I'm just looking for something new...looks I'll have to try for myself, either that or wait for AoC and Warhammer....and yeah if someone's got an extra beta invite I'd appriciate it - I'm european and as for fileplanet - well meh....
I cannot check the game out for myself, so have to rely on word of mouth (have played enough MMOs to know to NEVER purely trust the word of the Devs... "We're going to do this and this!... *cough*after release(tm)*cough*".
And this forum is so bipolar...
You have the radical supporters on one side, the extreme haters on the other, the let down folk somewhere in the middle and the mildly optimistic floating around there somewhere too...
Sounds more like a religion than an approaching MMO release .
So yeah... I dunno what to think. Am so busting for a new MMO, and I can buy this game in Australia. But I read one thread and it's going to rock, read another and it's the biggest letdown ever to be made...
Just dunno man, just dunno...
"(The) Iraqi people owe the American people a huge debt of gratitude." - George W Bush.
Oh. My. God.

wait for a free trial period or some reviews from MMO sites that you can trust, or pay your money and take your chances. You will notice most of us haters will suggest that you try it yourself, while the fanboys want you to plunk down money before seeing it, that should give you a clue right there.
I miss DAoC
It wont be my $230 investment - I have other games I want to play this year. Hellgate London, Supreme Commander, Jade Empire - thats my $230 spent right there.
Some companies do shut down the development of games - Mythic - Imperator, others get the funding to redevelop - Tabula Rasa, others have to release whatever they have - Dungeonlords, other release crap - DnL.
