Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as you. WoW is all too boring and none of the other games are holding my attention. For months I've been in this situation and still search for something to play outside my consoles (though Zelda on the Wii held me for about a week). Now I'm just counting my sorry days until AoC comes out.
Frankly i believe that we as MMO'ers are asking for too much. I can agree that most of the games released nowadays dont hold a candle to what we've played before, but the winds of change have made this genre what it is. Might as well go back to playing single player RPG's which have much more content than most MMo's :P
Nothing is holding are attention, because, right now, nothing can.
I'm beginning to come face to face with everyones greatest fear, maybe WoW was... Great, amazing, the best thing evar.
I don't know, I almost got addicted to Voyage Century, but now it's disappeared. I wanted to play DarkSpace, but its p2p, and I don't think it's worth it at the moment. I really want to try Vangaurd: SoH and see it for myself, but no FP sub, or will I preorder another beta. (I'm a happy little Pioneer preorder for Dark and Light)
I'm scared the WoW expansion will increase their sales by so much, that it will just mean everyone is just rejoining. Good luck to... Well the games I'm waiting for anyways: Darkfall, Pirates of the Burning Sea, and because I won it, 2Moons.
I agree, singleplayer games or games like CS:S, online games that aren't mmo's, aren't supposed to played to the extent we play mmo's. Really, it's disturbing how much even casual people play the games. Warcraft 3:FT and Warrock (you should try it) are keeping me from committing suicide, but for how long? For how long...
I can't find any mmo to hold my attention. I can't take any more WoW. It hurts to log on. CS:S is only fun for so long...
Please... Is there anything?
Well if you are spoiled then so am I.
...
And about 75% of all the posters here too ... ooooo new poll idea to find out how many people on here play mmorpg right now and how many of them like the mmorpgs they are playing right now and how many think they didnt have a good mmorpg to play for a ... month, 3 months, 6 months a year or more than a year!
Its been about a year since a quit WoW and I didnt have any serious relationship with any other mmorpg since then...will no mmorpg have a date for a few years in my room with me?
DarkSpace maybe be p2p for higher end content, but you can still play for free for as long as you like with the basic ship classes. You can still gain stats and badges, but you cannot make full use of them. This is a viable mode of play, and I know many people who take advantage of it.
You also get a 14 day trial coupon which you can redeem as your leisure. You don't have to use it straight away and in fact we actively encourage people not to as you get a greater benefit from it once you have built up some baseline stats. This coupon simply allows you to access the full range of ship options that your statistic would allow if subscribed. Once it expires you go back to the demo/free mode.
It also possible to play for free by use of the referral system. You get 7 days free play time for each person you can get to subscribe (there is an entry field upon subscription that you can enter the referrers player ID into). Admittedly it would be a daunting task to keep up the supply of people, but it IS possible :-P
We are also investigating the possibilities of some expanded freeplay modes with a greater degree of access, although I cannot give any more information on this at the moment.
I can't find any mmo to hold my attention. I can't take any more WoW. It hurts to log on. CS:S is only fun for so long...

Its called growing up... Im in the same boat, most games I used to love arent fun anymore, and just 1 or 2 games last longer then 2-3 weeks in a row. Growing up sucks Who stole a child inside of me?
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
We are geting to picky and mmo clones aint doing it for us anymore. We want something new. Dangeruos with a challenge and good rewards or atleast I do.

I disagree with this statement. We are NOT asking for too much. Its just apparent that we are too few in number.
There are probable thousands of people who are playing games they are not happy with. If those people would simply QUIT paying these companies for a product that is not that good anyways, it would go a long way in helping the cause.
Companies only understand "Money" and if we keep giving it to them for a crap product, then where is their incentive to change?

I always felt this game had great potential, with persistent universe and all. Just needed more people to populate it!
Me and my friend used to run these crazy infantry transports and urge people for invasion focus - most tended to run assault ships and usually got into private duels - so you actually needed to remind them there's a greater goal in question.. ...ah these were the days! That was some years ago, but I still recommend it gladly!
Back on topic, true enough, I also can't decide what to play right now, the waiting stretches are long, and future is uncertain...
We are not asking for too much we just want something different, I recently started playing ryzom which seems to be one of the few skill instead of class based mmos around, and it has been great so far.
before that I was looking for awhile to try to find a mmo, played eq2 on pvp servers for awhile but it was more of the same old lvl up start raiding crap that all mmorpgs have to offer atm.
Atm all of the current mmorpgs consist of 2 major goals when you play them, lvl up and then get the best gear. lvl up was made easy and fun in WoW but then you are stuck with the same old raiding for gear stuff. PvP is also something they add into a lot of these games but its always lacking in something.
Someone needs to make a game that is skill based and orientated around making the grind fun.
if you look at mmorpgs they ALL have a grind of some sort, if they dont then the only other thing is pvp, so its always PvP (which tends to be fun), and Grind(which no one ever tried to make fun, WoW did a decent job but then endgame is the same boring stuff .
Now that I think of it a little more the only thing that any MMORPG has in common with any other one is a grind.
Well now the question is how to make a grind that is fun, shows a goal, yet never ends so the $$$ keeps coming in.

So many people are trying to recreate their first experience and they can't. Someone else posted that games now can't compare to the older games. I think that is just taste. Quite frankly, none of the older online games ever interested me enough to try them. It wasn't until Lineage 2 where I at least wanted to try one.
Also, as the market grows, so will the types of games that come out. I see so many people who desire what would be considered more hardcore games. But I don't really think that most casual gamers would be interested in that. So if there is a huge influx of casual gamers, where are the companies going to put their money? In games that cater to casual players.
Are there even enough hardcore players to float a new hardcore title and would they like it if it came out?
People diss WoW but I feel that they did a lot "right". They made it so that players who would never look at online games can actually find something that they can play for a few hours per week. Problem is that then you get the players who want to spend more time and effort in a game then it is harder to placate all players involved.
I wonder if it would help for someone to start an organization that represented more hardcore players, get a poll going and then approach these game companies to show them that they do indeed have an audience.
Also, people expect more and more from these games thus making it harder and more expensive to make.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
haha, i'm int he same boat too. it sucks. i can't bring myself to sit infront of a computer at such lengths anymore and try and play a game that isn't fun anymore. And no, we're not asking for too much, we're asking for something reasonable. there's nothing that really catches my eye currently apart from 4moons or spore...which isn't even an mmorg. meh. i hope they do bring out some new mmorgs that are of decent value. i havent got a problem with paying for them...i'm just yet to find one that's worth paying for.
I'm looking forward to the UO Graphics upgrade personally. And hey, I do enjoy EVE, it offers everything I look for in an MMO but can be a little dry for some. Other than that there are a couple betas worth keeping an eye on

Nope, you are dead on.... we're in a drought right now for MMO's and lots of us are searching for something to fill the void. Myself, I went back to DAOC for a spell, just to keep busy during the dark ages we find ourselves in.
On a deeper plane, I think many of us are looking for games that truely are the "next generation" but I think we have to suffer many attempts to clone WoW's success before someone will try to break the mold and do something different.... that we actually like...

There are plenty of great MMORPGs to play. The problem is, if you're like me, is that you've already played 10 of them at least (in my case about 30) and have been there, done that.
EQ2 for example has a plethora of UI & graphics options and tons of things to do. But in the end, it's nowhere near as fun and immersive as when I played EQ, even though EQ was incredibly painful and tedious at times. The reason is because I never played games like EQ at the time, and today I've played a ton of them.
I know almost exactly what to expect when starting an MMO these days. Quick advancement, confused about skills and attributes, followed by understanding and then slow grinding to nowhere & nerf-land.
Veterans of MMOs know that they, as a hampster on a wheel, can jump off at any time. We understand subconsiously that if it isn't fun now, it's not going to be better later. Newbies however stay on the wheel for many years in many games until they realize there is no end. Developers are trying to get the newbies hooked on their game, and hope they can keep the veterans occupied with enough useless content that they stick around for awhile too.
I can't find anything to hold my attention only because my first game was Ultima Online. No game has been more complex and in-depth as UO and that is why my high expentations for MMOs never get satisfied. I sometimes go back to UO to remember my past and all the memories and ganks I used to have/do.
