Can someone explain the blocking function?

I've never used and never will but I know that  a poster on this forum has blocked me but in another thread on this page, I quoted a comment made by the person who blocked me and they knew I was quoting their thread, how, doesn't the blocking block all I post, even quotes????????? Perhaps they are using a second account to read those posts so they can see what is being said but can convieniently not reply to awkward questions because they cannot quote what I said or pretend they have not seen.

Thoughts and explanations on this process please.

I come in peace. If you click the block, it'll make their post disappear and you only see their name. However, you have to turn the feature on every time you log in.

Strange then that someone would post 'can't see what you posted' assuming it's about them!!!?????
