I am sure that I will try it out at launch. But from the general mood of topics I don't it is going to pull me away from the current MMO I am playing. I think only two futures lay ahead for the game though, either A) it will be the next big thing or it will be the next DnL. so to speak.
-------------------------------- Currently Playing: Guild Wars 2 and Path of Exile
Didn't Sigil say "it will be released when it's ready"?
LOL. It will sell out in a year to SOE. So what, some people are dumb enough to buy it as is. But I don't think there will be 300k+ dumb people.
Warning signs of a crappy game:
"It has potential"
"We'll add the rest of the game later after launch"
SOE is on the box.
Sorry I'm not putting over 2 years into a game to have it taken away from me.
I already played a game from SOE that was released too earliy. Promises of adding the rest of the features at a future date after release (which never happened).
Despite the fact that I think it's not ready for release right now I agree with taus01. They have been pumping out patches like fiends. If the trend continues maybe the game will be "ready" on the 30th...but I guess we'll see.

As a long time Closed Beta Player i have to say that i am more than impressed what Sigil has been able to do in the last few days. The game is taking leaps forward with every new patch. If this continues i can definately see the game ready end of the month.
Performance and stability is getting better aswell and after removal of the Beta code and packaging of the Client (right now it is an unpacked UT2.5 developer version we are testing with) we will get another significant boost in performance.
I am very optimistic right now.
Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.
Guess some companies havent learned anything from wow success. Have open beta (without requiring preorder) at stage when game is quite bug free. When people see that game is bug free/fun, you gurantee lot will buy it.
I atleast dont feel like tossing another $40 just to try another mmorpg to see if I even like it or if its working as promised.
Asfar i can remember i havn't playe'd any mmorpg from release day that was more then a polished beta, most of them became at a satisfing state after 6 months maybe some abit more. WoW might be the most stabel mmorpg today but the first 6 months ...well we all know.....I'm sure i'm going to play VSoH beyond beta into release and don't mind that some things might not be working how it should but atleast i know even tho my % is low when i pay sub-fee (release) in some way i have contributed in its development as i am doing so in beta aswell.
And those in Beta really must see and experiance all the work that is done like everyday they have added/fixed/tuned the game. To bad many people that had acces to the beta left because they couldn't stand getting crashes/logouts/bug ect ect. Wonder why they aplied for beta anyway. For now i think in time this game will really seperate the mature gamer from the wanna be gamers .I also don't mind if the sys.specs are high as it i think it also will loose some of the "kiddy" base that can't tell their parent to buy them a high end rigg like they can order them to pay a subfee for a game, tho i understand there are those that work all day (incl.me..but i still have a highend and they may have millions of reasons why they wont be buying a high end machine just for a game. The only thing you can really say to yourself is "to bad i'm not able to play that game even tho i wished i could". Trust me this isn't the last mmorpg ever there will be more in the future that you might be able to play and enjoy on your system or you might upgraded it all. Men was never ment to have it all why should this be differently in games. Some games you can play some you can't , did the world end because of it?? nope don't think so.

My 2 cents: My computer works wonderful playing WoW, and when i got Vanguard running it was hurting bad. I could login, but the 4-5 framerate was not playable. I know it's time for an upgrade for me, but I at least expected to be able to stumble through part of the game with a sub-par system.
Frankly, it sounds like a lose-lose situation to me.
Either they release it this month and are forced to go up against the WoW expansion which will definitely hurt their subscriber numbers, at least in the short-term, or they wait another month or two to make the game more playable and overall fun and risk going broke before they can even get the product out. Not an enviable position either way. I mean, the average gamer will probably see the two games side-by-side and figure that Blizzard's standard of quality is much higher than almost anyone else's on the market and that'll lead to one more WoW member and one less potential VG player.
I can only imagine how much burnout the devs are going through right now. They're probably working 7 days a week for 12+ hours a day and sleeping in the office to get these daily patches out (I hope they're going through some good QA - wouldn't want to see one hole patched up while two more takes it place)
Slightly off topic, but I stopped following Vanguard after the new year. Have they added a decent amount content for levels over 30 yet? I imagine lack of end-game, much less high-level, content at launch could be a major killer for the game.
We need more of them, so in two years we can enjoy acceptable level of bugs, real trees, real quests, real map, real mobs, sensible crafting, sensible guild system, list goes on.
Respect to all who will finance beta-6. We need more of them, so in two years we can enjoy acceptable level of bugs, real trees, real quests, real map, real mobs, sensible crafting, sensible guild system, list goes on.
Unfortunatly developers (and investors) wont get a clue with your suggestion, however that is a great idea for those of us that were severly disappointed in the game. :-)
Destined to be one of the best PvE games made (in my opinion). Of course, it was created by the creators of the best PvE game, Everquest (in my opinion). I've Beta tested since Beta 3, (over a year), and this game has taken more leaps and bounds since 1/04/07, (release of Beta 5), then it seems all of Beta 3 and 4. They are patching atleast once or more a day. Level 30+ content has been added and with all the new players storming in, I know they won't even attain 30+ until January 30th. At the rate they are going, they will make it. It's all about money, and they are about out of it. Reading the forums and looking at screenshots doesn't exactly give you the right to judge this game. EVERY game releases early, even the whoopie-doo World of Warcraft. It hurts me to see people pass down such a game because of early beta experiences and expectations. Best of luck.
They may be able to patch the game into a decent state by launch, they may not.
The problem is that this game might as well be called "Generic Fantasy MMO 2007". Swords, sorcerors, elves, monsters blah blah blah...nothing new here, move along.
It's very telling that the winner of the best new MMO of 2006 was "none of the above", and this is an inauspicious start to 2007. Many people, myself included, were looking forward to Vanguard, but after playing it and seeing that is has nothing new to offer anyone, I really have no desire to pay for it.
If there were no other major new releases now, from 3 months back to 3 months ahead, Vanguard might have been successful by default. However, with Burning Crusade just a few weeks prior...that's basically a death sentence.
Boring, generic, stale, even the graphics look dated.
Originally posted by WolfClaws This game is totally unfinished. Not to go into detail, but let's just say that if they release 30 Jan, they are just wanting folks to buy the game and then expect 40% to cancel and hope to keep the next 60% while they try to fix the problems. Bad business practice.
That would be a GOOD percentage for a successful MMO, by my guessing. I think the typical retention numbers are much lower for MMOs that are making money. Less successful MMOs would have much higher cancellations after the free month and even more cancellations after the next couple months.
I have played in many MMOs now and I often do not keep "friends lists" anymore because it seems that almost all "friends" end up being rarely on-line or quitting after a "short" time. My friends list is not very useful as a result.
Yeah, you can move around and kill stuff, craft a bit, but it is sooo horribly buggy still, as a beta should be.
When it launches,,, and it launches still broken... It will fail.
A game comes to mind... what was it? A situation just like now... Oh yeah, Matrix Online.
Was never finished and it was rushed out there. Yeah thats a flop.
There was another... But I cannot remember the name off hand.
Get it playable, get it functioning. The extra content CAN wait, for the first couple of months after release, but if the game ain't stable, folks won't stay.
It's sad really. I was really looking forward to this game. I even have a Beta key, but I'm NOT going to pay to download 13Gig of data to play it. Thats going to cost me more then $200 in internet fees (south African internet is expensive)
Even when the game is released I won't be buying it. The game is not finished, I'll have to pay for the patches to download. and I'm sure they won't be small either.
But it sure fits in the station account : SWG - lets not discuss it again, Matrix online and now Vanguard. They should be happy that they have eq1 and eq2 to make some profit 8)
I don't think this really is the best time for sigil to launch Vanguard. The release is VERY close with World of Warcraft: The burning crusade.
But Sigil, somehow believe that WoW success is due to raiding. They plan on raiders been disappointed by BC and to check for raiding alternatives. The fact that what matter to 95% of these players is not raid-related somehow evade Sigil's grasp. While on the other side, I am quite sure a few peoples with FoH origins try to delay the release, in order to hurt Vanguard and Brad, since after all, who doesn't recall FoH emo-ending?
This is what happen when your nose is too close to your mouth, you smell your own breath and you assume it is the world scent. They are in for quite a disappointment IMO.

Good ol' Sony.
Maybe I'll check this game out a year or 2 from now...you know...when it should have been released.

I know it is unfinished and unpolished. But even in this state it is still a bit better than what else is on market.
And if they do polish it one day. The game might even be quite good

Been testing for almost 6 months now and based on all of this up until yesterday, I'd say a May release is probably too early IMO.
