Friday update, hot topic

The developers have been busy revamping the class/archetype structure. Multiple classes have been merged with each other to create new hybrids.

For example, the Conquerer and the Liberator, the primary difference between these two classes was that one wielded 2HE weapons, the other dual wielded, both bore a standard that had group buffs and wore partial plate armor, both relied on evasion to avoid damage. Now they are a single class, one that can specialize in either form of combat.

One thing thats easy to predict, a lot of people won't like this change at first, having watched their favorite class choice get merged with another.

    the WoWification of MMOs continue, less and less simplified classes. I want more choices not less.

    WOW's only real choice was in terms of the initial class, here your character is almost entirely unique based on the skill and feat choices you make, its a real choice with disadvantages either way, not a matter of waiting for enough cash to "buy" both of the skills available for training.

    Let me put it this way, would you rather have 1000 different nearly identical classes, or one class with 1000 different ways to set it up?

    To the OP:  I highly doubt many people will be upset at the consolidation of a handful of classes.  It's not like people were actually playing them and *poof*, they're gone, not like say...creature handlers.  These are just scrapped ideas.

    To the first reply: *sigh* "wowification"?  Stop it; please don't be one of those people that tries to slip WoW-bashing into everything.  WoW is only the center of the universe if you make it that way.  Just stop mentioning it and it will go away...eventually.  With that said, just because they trimmed redundant classes away doesn't make it all that "WoW".  People see what they want to see but that does not in fact make it any way relateable.

    Summary of the changes to classes:



    * Guardian and Halberdier have been merged, class name is Guardian.

    * Barbarian, Reaver and Master Thief merged, class name is Barbarian.

    * Conquer and Liberator merged, class name is Conqueror.

    * Zealot and Dark Templar merged, class name is Dark Templar.

    * Defiler and Lotus Master merged, class name is now Assassin.

    * Ranger and Waylayer merged, class name is Ranger.

    * Stormcaller and Druid merged, class name is Druid of the Storm.

    * Scourge of Derketo’s abilities have been merged across the Priest archetypes



    So the final line-up is now as follows:



    * Priest Archetype – Druid of the Storm, Scion of Set, Priest of Mitra, Bear Shaman

    * Mage Archetype – Demonologist, Lich, Necromancer, Herald of Xotli

    * Soldier Archetype – Guardian, Conqueror, Dark Templar

    * Rogue Archetype – Ranger, Assassin, Barbarian

    ... ... I wanted to be a Master theif..... Thats just not cool. I would rather have a Unique Name to my style of combat. Not just, oh im the same as him but im set up like "x". Just no fun at all.

    Hmm can't really say i like the update, i really liked the waylayer. But well i guess they done it for a good reason.

    Fewer classes makes for less difficulty in balancing.

    Considering this is a PvP game where class balance will be paramount this is a good change.

    i like this... in fact, i like this alot . now, you wont be locked up as a tank just becouse you picked a guardian, you wont be locked up as an tank, but you can "respec" and do some dps to... makes choosing a bit easier, and thats good ^^

    You are so far off the mark you cant even see it if you believe the number of classes has anything to do with being next gen or a good mmo in general.

    You should opt for one of the D&D games or DAoC, they would appear to be more what you are looking for.

    I don't get why this is bad.  I thought that there were too many classes before and now, the number 14 seems like a very high number. 

    I'd prefer they spend more time on the content in the game, not spending ALL of their time trying to balance 20 classes.  Like someone said earlier, it will be a heavy PvP game.  Class balance will be extremely important.

    You must not read many MMO forums

    its one of the main reason so many people left SWG post NGE, they liked the choices and being able to make thier own "class". They didn't want to be the typical boring overdone "tank" ... "healer" ... "Dps". UO is one of the more talked about PVP games and yet wow look at that no classes. Same thing with EVE, pure skill and another very popular game. If EVE devs said they were making "classes" the game would die in a day.

    one of the biggest requests on most MMO forums ... more classes ... gee i wonder why?

    I doubt that is necessarily the case for PvP focused mmo's.



    You have to understand as class volume goes up balance difficulty rises exponentially.

    I like the change myself. I was torn between Lotus Master and defiler , now I have both all rolled into an assasin :)



    None of the talents of skills were lost with this change so anyone who liked a particular class can still play that class but with more diversity.



    I think there is enough class choice on offer with the 14 that are there.

    ome of you people are stupid none of the classes are gone   the waylayer is not gone  just you would choose to use a crossbow while playing a ranger

     

    all the classes are still there just the anmes have changed and they have given them  more abilites

    this is not bad   you just have to choose what you want to be instead of picking it at level you spec in the abilites

    truly this just makes it easyer for players to chose which class

    none of the classes are gone people

    The changes don't seem to effect my choices much. Since I can't play all the classes anyway, it gives the ones that I do like more flexibillity. I really like the idea of being able to choose an archtype and then move into a specific class. For those people who don't like the changes, all I can say is that you probably wouldnt have liked the game anyway so now you can move along to something else.

    due you have to be kidding me  all the classes have varibilty and many choses to choose from its all how you spec your damn character there wont be just three tanks there will be three classes but may differnt ways to spec them depending on how you play. the 14 classes are there just condensided  to make it easyer to choose the class  but you still will spec how you want to   so in the end  you can still choose to be a lotus master  you just ahve to spec it right

     

    so people stop complaining nothing really changed  the game is still how it was   just making things easyer

     

    ohh yeah  also the mains reason above loss of classes was changing the entire gameplay of SWG why would you change a sucssesfull game??? thats my only question
