Looking for a crafter's dream

There's no way I can possibly look at every single game out there to check all the crafting systems, so I thought I'd give you folks a chance to help me.  And, boy, do I need help!  Just ask my psychiatrist :P  Anyway, here's my checklist:

1) Variety of things to craft.  Ships, cities, tank, planes, whatever.  I just like to make things :)

2) Crafting system that requires thought and planning

3) Entire game must have craftable items that are comparable to drops/quests

4) Said comparable items must be craftable at the same levels as the dropped/quested ones

Is there such a beast out there?  I'll take Fantasy, Sci-Fi, or other genres.  I just want a game that actually lets me make something worthwhile!

You would have loved precu Star Wars Galaxies. They are getting ready for the crafter revamp next publish. Only time will tell how that works out. The only others I can think of at the moment are a Tale in the Desert or Roma Victor. I have not tried Roma Victor. A Tale in the desert seemed to be completely about crafting and was very detailed. I actually found it quite interesting and I'm more of a combat type myself. Good Luck.

a tale in the desert, wurmonline, and possiably vanguard.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

    2) Crafting system that requires thought and planning Yep You need materials to build stuff which usually needs mining or making components from tech 2 raw aprts which go together to form whatever you want to make.

    3) Entire game must have craftable items that are comparable to drops/quests Yep there is tech 2 items of vurtually everything which is better than even drop items.

    4) Said comparable items must be craftable at the same levels as the dropped/quested ones Again they are

Basically im saying eve online has the most coplex crafing system ever concieved in a MMO. And it has the best market to sell your stuff in too.

All Eve requires is a bunch of calculations for what materials you need.  Then you throw it into a factory and wait.

Roma Victor is a definite no.  I was a tester on that game so toughed it out for serveral months.  In the end, on the "release", things were so badly screwed up you could barely play.  All it took was one Barbarian to walk onto a Roman board and it was slideshow time.

I was thinking Vanguard as well, but I was a beta 4 tester.  That's part of why I'm starting to search for other games.  I want to keep my options open since it's looking more and more like crafters are going to take a back seat to everything else as in most MMOs.

The others all sound like distinct possiblities.  What exactly are they planning for a crafting revamp in SWG?  Also, has anyone given Ruin Online a try?  Descriptions of the factions make it seem there'll be a lot of crafted items, but no clue to what extent or if there will be anything more than get materials, throw them in the "hopper", and click a button.

You should definitely check out "A Tale In The Desert". If I was more into crafting and less into combat, I would definitely play this game. If you look around a bit, I'm pretty sure you can find a free trial for it.

Yes, but if I wanted the real world I'd just log off the computer

You´d be making battleships, titans etc.. etc.. and fleets to wage war against opposing factions? Tell me, which world are you living in, and how do i get there?

Or are you looking for the "whack-a-mole" type of crafting?

Then i would have to say there are no games that really fit your needs that i know off te only one that came close would be Everquest.

Oh and next time to avoid confusion be a bit more specific in your posting if you dont liek eve's system then say it so no-one recommends it as that has a majour crafting section to it.

Yeah.  Probly shouldn't post questions like that while half asleep and annoyed at the game I'm currently trying

I'd just write my own, but I don't seem to have $20 Million to spare right now
