Shhh..... it will hear, ive managed to convince mine to play most of the new titles, yes I know its not supposed to be able to but it seems as long as i dont tell it and fiddle with a few memory hog settings it just gets on with it.

Shame on you being mean to a senior citizen graphics card.

any card can run a game.... but be ready to set to the lowest settings and get no eye candy with below average frame rates and yeah jus like u said

I suggest you upgrade yourself with Sense of Humour V.2.0.

Love to stay and chat but my 9550 needs it meds and some help round the garden with its walker :)

forgive me if i didnt laugh or give any virtual espression or anything with !!!!! o0o0o0 when i replied to ur suposely humor statement or might be that my english is to0 bad that i really didnt see the humor... but anyway its to0 early here and i jus reply straightly.

im thinking its jus u.... u offended by me saying 9550 is nuttin

Not sure what your budget is, but I recently went through building a new PC and pretty much decide to go with the following.

    Core 2 Duo E6600

P965 LGA 775 Motherboard (Quad ready for upgrade purposes)

    Geforce 8800GTX

    2GB DDR2 800

My only over the top purchase was the Graphics card, and I'm glad I did, because nothing I've tried on this machine slows it down ;)

But definitly check out multiply reviews for any parts your considering buying to get an idea of how each compares. I know some sites have there fav companies.

Well lots of advice here, but since he does not say what his budget is, my guess is, it is a lot lower than many of the choices most of you are proposing.

Since most games do not support dual core yet let alone quad core, if his budget is tight a simple 64 bit processor will work and AMD's are still better and cheaper in that area.    I agree that his graphics card is probably going to have to be replaced but there some nice bargains out there around $100 that will surfice if the budget is tight.

So while it is nice to dream about fast systems, most of us have to come down to reality about what our budget allows.

I say pick your poison, but remember whatever you choose research and see if the given processor you want to buy is compatible with the chipset you desire. For example, some Athlon 64 x2 processors are not AM2 socket based, so you won't be able to utilize the GDDR3 management that comes from that chipset. And so on. Right now, they're a bit over priced due to the holidays just wrapping up, so watch for the prices to drop even at places like NewEgg and so on.

What processor should I go with?
I've got a Radeon 9550 and a Creative SB Audigy (WDM)in this comp and was thinking of using them in my new comp.
Are Dual Cores better than AMDs? Does it matter or should I just be looking at the Ghz?
Any advice and help would be great.
Well if you wanna have a real good comp go for quad core. I have an Intel quad core 4 x 3.2Ghz. With that I have 2046 RAM and a Radeon X1900 Series VC. It is absolutely awesome. You be amazed, I promise you :)

AMD usually undercut Intel by pricing their processors a little below similar performing Intel processors so they normally are a better value. Currently however AMD is in a real bind as their highest performing processor barely keep up with Intel’s lower speed models. On top of that Intel’s lower speed Core 2 processors overclock like crazy, so they are easily the best value processors at the moment.

Don’t bother with quad core. Writing applications that make effective use of 2 cores is tough, and there are very few games out there that benefit from a second core. A second core can still improve performance a little and can overall system smoothness so it’s still handy to have. If you get a quad core processor 2.5 of those cores are going to still there doing nothing but produce heat, it just isn’t worth it.

That video card definitely needs an upgrade, and you should make sure you have at least 2GB of RAM.

Intel Core 2 Duo is better than AMD:s Cpus and better prized aswell so there isnt much more to say than go with Intel..

    Sup guys.

Sorry I haven't replied in so long. I bought a prebuilt Compaq Presario SR2030NX on a whim and I'm really regretting it now. I think I've talked the manager at Office Max to take it back and giving me a refund, but I won't know for sure until later this afternoon.

So if I do get lucky and they take it back, I'll have about a $550 budget to build or buy a new PC.

Is there anyway in hell that I can buy or build a decent gaming rig for this kind of cash?

I think I'd much rather buy a pre-packaged deal because it would be less of a hassel.

If you do know of a pre-packaged deal that will run Vanguard, CoH, WoW, BF2142, and still be able to run AoC, Gods and Heroes, and Huxley when they come out I would be supremely greatful if you'd give me a link or PM me.

I don't have a lot of faith that I can get a system for that cheap, but any feedback and links would be greatly appreciated.

Help me Obi Wan Kenobis you guys are my only hope.

As far as a whole new computer, be it custom or prepackaged, I really can't see a half decent gaming rig for less than $1000 from mouse to monitor.

Now if you are willing to work with your existing machine and upgrade the 'guts' there may be hope. You would have to reuse your case, monitor, peripherals, Windows, and hopefully your hard disk and power supply. What is the breakdown of the system that you are currently using?

well if you go by anyone you will be waiting forever. Everyone ALWAYS says to wait for this and then when that come out they say to wait for this now. If you wait for what thy want it will be mid 2007 before you get anything, besides with what you have already your building an old puter anyway so go for it
