You can "buy" a key on fileplanet for EU Beta.

Why do more and more betas are open for fileplanet subscribers ?

What is so special with it ?

I wait till May 06 to get into this beta, and now everyone can join ?

I mean everyone who pay. But i dont. I dont like this system.

Why dont Codemaster sell all keys on eBay ? Its the same.

Right now it's only for Fileplanet subscribers, but 9 times out of 10 after about a week or two it will open up to non-subscribers as well.  I'm sure Fileplanet pays the companies a fee to have the beta's show up on their site first in an effort to get more subscriptions.  If you think about it, it's not really a huge amount to pay to get into a beta.  The US price is about $7.00 for a month and if you think about as a "try before you buy" it really makes sence.  Look at it this way:  If you pay the subscription fee you get into the beta, get to check out the game and if you don't like it your only out $7.00 instead of buying the game and not liking it and being out $50.00 or $60.00.  If you do like the game then it was a small price to pay to be sure.  Kind of like an insurance policy.  Plus you still have a whole month of fast beta and demo downloads so you will get your money's worth either way.

The other option is to wait for public open betas if there is one or wait and see if the game will have a trial after it's released.

Pay for play games are profit making ventures, only makes sense they'd try to start the revenue coming in a little sooner if they could.  Paying for entrance to "open" beta is a trend that will probably continue, since it costs money to run one and distribute the software to everyone.

I'm sorry to hear people complaining about needing to "buy" a sub for fileplanet, get real folks !! i'm a fileplanet subscriber and let me tell you the many beta's, free games/gifts i have gott'n out of that extreme low subfee makes it more then worth it. Or did you think you would only get to enter just this one time beta, read what you get when subscribing to fileplanet i'm sure if any of you have done that you would never complain......well unless some of you need to ask mommy or daddy to make them a sub :P

This is almost as stupid question as 'why do i have to pay for a freeware game?' if  you get a cd with freeware games when you buy a gaming magazine.

It is also a great way for companies to limit the flow of new players coming in.  They give Fileplanet x number of keys, tell them give them out the way you want.  Fileplanet charges $7 a month, get's a sub, gives a key, sends them the file.  Both companies are happy.  I think you will see more of this in the future.  It takes the load off of the dev company for distributing the files and keys but still lets them get their beta testers plus gets them free advertising with Fileplanet advertising the new beta.

And when the only criteria for being a beta tester is "pay a fee and you're in", it doesn't surprise me when games are released with bugs that would have gotten noticed by those who were actually testing instead of "trying the game out".

Since when has a beta tester been anything other than that?  Usually they just ask your system specs, and what other games you have played.  Like that really narrows it down alot and throws out the non-testers.  If you want a true beta test you would need to submit a application almost like a job application.  Now they would get good beta testers and be worthwhile.  Anything else is just any random joe.

I've done a lot of betas, but never once have I paid for the key. I just got done with Beta 1 for Lotro, and to be honest, it was pretty crowded.
