What is your choice for this year in MMORPG branch and why? I'm definetely going for Dark and Light and World of Warcraft. I won't give a chance to EQ2 because i had enough of EQ in my life even it was a great game.

I've been to many places, i've seen so many faces...

My Pick is Guild Wars. It was not on your list but I see it as the perfect "sleeper" for 2004.

Umm were is Guild Wars on that list??? Our guild is going GW and WOW. I have followed many games through development that are slated for release but they all decided to go full player economies which in my opinion do not work such as DnL, Realms of torment, Dragon Empires, etc... Guild Wars is more than a MMORPG it is a new Genre all together and will be a awesome game to play and I look most forward to it's release.

Through your fear I am reborn. My hand of grief can't be ignored. You know my name.... yes you know who I am. Frustrating turmoil again and again. I am the spike that drives through your hand. for i am eternal battering ram!

I agree.  Guild Wars looks great.  I also see Pirates of the Burning Sea as one that will bring a whole new group of gamers into the genre.  Just the breadth of research they have done is amazing!  Any old gamers like me who remember playing Sid Meier's Pirates! on a 386 w/ EGA are likely boosted for this title.

Of course, EQ2, WoW, L2, D&L, and CoH all look great, too!

i would have said a toss up between R.Y.L, CoH and Lineage 2 but i rescently heard of the major cheater problem their suffering from in RYL, so im just gonna have to say Lineage 2 and CoH...

between both of those i cant really pick one, mainly because i havnt played the CoH beta yet (currently playing Lineage 2 beta) but it does look very good and out of all the other names on the list, thats the one that interests me the most...

so ya... tie between L2 and CoH IMO...

Good ol'e Sid. I think i've played every one of his games including the one you mentioned. Care to travel the seas with me? I'm definately going to check it out.

    image Lineage 2:

I have beta tested a lot of mmorgs in the past and none of them even when released are as polished and complete as lineage 2 is even in beta.

The few bugs that remain in the game have already been fixed in the chronicle 1 patch that the NA version of the game will go live with.

The only downside to lineage 2 is the cruel level grind but if you approach the game with the right attitude there is no other game on the market or in beta that even comes close.

After checking all of your opinions i'm going to put few more game into the poll. Just put some more "beta previews" to read and decide all people who haven't done it upto nowimage.

Most of the beta testers are Fanboys and don't know what they're talking about.  Listen to people who have actually PLAYED an MMORPG before.  Furor of Fires of Heaven from EQ says it is the best MMORPG he's ever seen, period.  I'm more likely to trust THAT opinion than some 733+ Blizzard fanboy who isn't secure enough in his own sexuality to even normally interact with people.  So many of them are socially retarded that it made WC3 and the WoW boards unbearable.  I've stated before that if the community doesn't meet my standards, it doesn't matter how good the game is because I'll never touch it.  It's a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER online role-playing game.  Ignore lists are there for a few people, not almost everyone playing the game.

That being said, Ryzom will be awesome, 'nuff said.

Yes, I agree.  Call me shallow and superficial, but World of Warcraft is not on my list of games to play because of it's graphics.  It looks like it has graphics geared toward a kids game.  It was ok for the real-time stretegy game, but for a mmorpg, where many players want to feel immersed in another world, this would be a major turn off.  I am not saying the graphics are not good, they actually look very well done, but I am going for the games with a more realistic graphics engine like Everquest II and  Dark and Light.

I've been in  very large number of betas, tired of the endless leveling grind hack&slash garbage that is most of these games, War Hammer looks like it'll have depth and interest, as does Dark & Light, and even EQ2 looks like a significant evolution (sounds like their crafting system may actual be fun/interesting which can't be said about anyone elses, which are just more "grind"). I'm immpressed with Guild Wars courage in trying a different kind of payment structure, (and reports are that its also alot of fun in beta). I suspect CoH will get boring pretty fast since it's really just super hero hack&slash (with really good graphics).

UXO looks like it would rock! But..... with the history the Ultima Online has had in the past.... I'm not sure this game would ever really get off the ground.
I started playing UO in 98, and had to go threw constint server crashes and the infamous lag monster.::::27:: But the game in those days was still fun. Then Origin talked about UO2, but they gave up on it, and instead revamped the graphics on UO to give it a 3d appearance.
I'm sure UXO would be an improvement over UO, but would it run any better?

Darkfall cuz its gonna kick ass and its all out pvp with all out theivery and promises great gameplay and content to go with. It basically looks like an expanded old UO with a bigger world and better graphics.image

I consider Face of Mankind the best coming MMORPG.

I don't understand why people make these polls and leave out some games. You should include EVERY game for X amount of time that is being planned to be released. This information is easily available from the home page.

although WoW wasn't my cup of tea, they could have released alpha as retail, that's no exaggeration either.

WOW will be a great game.  I see my self playing WOW until EQ2. EQ2 look very interesting. Lineage 2 is pretty decent. Although, L2 control is very bad, combat system is nice and simple, but skill system have no depth. COH would be good if they have Heroes vs Villians. I'll hold all my thought for now and wait and see how will WOW turn out to be. I trust Blizzard.image

WoW will be a great game, it will force developers to rethink how they do things. but trust me, hardcorde mmo'ers will get bored quicker over the average mmo.

  • darkmandarkman Member UncommonPosts: 767

If you think Developers are going to re-think after WoW, you will be amazed to see what is going to happen for Guild Wars. If you read about the game, you will see that they have so many different ideas that the game will attract so many people and force Developers to come up with things like that. Unfortunately the game is still in Alpha, but the fansite I go to has many alpha testers, and they are just in awe at how great the game is.

Malk, are you in alpha right now?

  • MalkavianMalkavian Member UncommonPosts: 2,995

    I wish.

I'm working on the Beta though *fingers crossed*.

i have read about the game and some features are intruiging. the simple fact though is that the argument you are making for guild wars, applies to WoW as well.
