Secondlife is just a chatroom with a lilguy in the middleofyour screen that you can dress up spend thousands of pounds ordollars of rl money on.

And thatis allit is yes i usto think different myself but now i have opened my eyes.

Linden lab research rakes about a million dollars ever 24 hours so thats about 360 milliondollars a year yes?

They just make it worse with lag and all the other stuff they fix one bug and create another...

They also onlymake the sims in the gamesand the menus ,but thats all the players make the gamenot them.

i say it should be totally wiped offthe internet.

I have had many arguments with people onthis site sticking up for the game and i am sorry to the ppl i have argued with and im also greatful...

What peopledont see is that the  players (yes the ppl infront of the computer) get addicted ,secondlife is exactly like a drug except its not illegal, ppl die in secondlife go crazy over and go kill themselves in life (yeah you know the real one..)

But yet millions of ppl play it.WHATS THE POINT you can do allof them things in real life why do you want to do it in another life too !?!?!?!?!

Well ,my opinion is that it should be wiped all of it and never get to come back!I know all ppl have their opinions just email me at ste_mottram@hotmail.com and tell me your opinion and maybe we could get somewhere on how or if this disgrace of a game will be wiped.

    1. go to sand box

    2. make item

    3. sell it

    4. Profit

If you dont know hwo to make item (like me) go to a casino, sit in a security position. Make money usually $2 lindem per 3 minutes. Have you been to Freebie warehouse yet? it provides everything you need, free houses, building, devices, vehicles, weapons, furniture, avatars and tons of other things all free.

Also it only costs 6-9 US dollars for basic account. Of course if you look at all the sims out there ( $195 a month) yes linden labs is making a ton of money. As for the lag? no zones so the entire world is open, of course its going to cause lag sicne your always in a giant cities.

Oh well. Second Life is more like a cross-breed of MySpace and eBay, just in 3D :)

You don't need to make profit to enjoy it, and you don't need to "show off" your home/avatar/clothes to enjoy it, either.

Also, glockmaster, you're reading the statistics on the webpage wrongly. When LL says "1 million US$ in transactions", it is referring to money exchanging hands between the users, not "revenues" for LL. They don't get a single cent out of those transactions — as you know, there are no "sale taxes" or anything like that.

Search on this forum for a breakdown of LL's costs and revenues; I've posted it somewhere, with the values for last year, which you have to adapt to the 2.5 million accounts and many more employees and servers. But it'll give you a rough idea on how much it costs to run the whole operation, and how tiny LL's margins are.

The other issue is "why do people spend time in Second Life at all?" Well, why do people like you post on forums? They find the interaction between human beings using the Internet as a medium as a worthwhile use of their time. They spend time looking for things, getting in touch with others, giving opinions and listening to other's opinions (and rebutt these in turn!). So, it's a hobby, but a social hobby — far better than, say, watching TV, which is "pure consumer entertainment", while this is interactive entertainment: people pushing content and watching content from the others.

I don't think it should be "wiped out" of the Internet at all. And oh, if it wasn't obvious — I was talking about forums ;)

Second Life is just the same — in 3D.

first of all, second life doesnt not have millions of people playing it, yes the community is growing but definitely not millions.

second, i am curious as to where you get this making a million a day off the game? not saying that this is not true but if you are getting it from those numbers they out on the site, that is total US dollars spent between players as well as money that goes to the lindens. therfore all that money isnt going to them.

third, why wipe it off the internet? if you dont like it, dont play it...

Someone told me this was some kinda porn game. I dunno bout you guys but, there is porn on the internet - why would you go to a bad graphics outdated game for porn?

Its not a porn game, a large amount of people use it for porn. SL is whatever game you make it out to be and can't really be classified into any particular genre. So i guess for those people that like porn it would be a "porn game" for those people.

Simply put SL is an open source game and therfore you can make anything and put anything you want into the game. The devs let you be the game developer. Ever wanted to create your own video game? Well you can for free, using Second Life's user interface. You can add the details/objjects and then program everything to work like a real video game.

    What SL is:
Its exactly what you make of it.

    What SL is not:
A single stated 'game',the place is huge, it has a 'RPG' district, a 'red light' district, a social district, gambling districts...name it, its got it someplace. Don't expect to see everything within a few hours...or even a few years..

The world is made by the users..so almost everything is different, all items are built, bought and sold by the users.

I for one, make enough Linden Dollars to fully pay my land and game fees per month. So the place is 'free' to me.

(you can convert Linden Game Dollars to Real Dollars and visa-versa)

It can be to you too, with a like work (horrors! NOT work!)

I've only been playing SL for a few weeks now and to me it feels mostly like a sandbox in the most literal sense. I love how you can actually make anything you want but at the same time there is the fact that making anything of mentionable quality will require actual dedication/talent to make. I have figured out most of the functions of the editor by now and it made me realize that a well-designed house, car or even a basic pair of shades just can't be slapped together in a matter of minutes and I won't even start about scripting since apart from making a cube that changes color over time I haven't been able to make any working script yet and you will need scripts (yes, coding !) to make your items actually do anything apart from looking good. Of course with a platform that let's you model anything there's going to be a lot of porn content around and I didn't expect anything else. I also ran into quite a number of fellow noobs with their first question being: "Where can you have sex in this game ?" so it would appear that there is a number of people who join SL for this purpose specifically.

However, maybe the Linden guys should consider a change of their slogan since apart from your imagination your limits will also be set by either your talent or your wallet, or both.

Well, SL was perfect for me as I have been a 3D model creator and scripter (Perl/PhP etc) for about the last 15 years of so.

What I DON'T care for in SL is it is "unplayable" alot of times due to database difficulties or some other problem. Its is nice though that things keep happening while offline. I built a casino and people play in it 24/7. Also using scripting I can have the game send data to my webserver on who been playing and if there is a profit or loss.

If you want a good idea of whats available in SL go check out http://www.slexchange.com , this is the main offline trading area for items built and usable in SL. Its pretty amazing.

    Cheers
