Iron Realms Entertainment's First 3D MMORPG!

Hello all, found this piece of news so I thought I would share it with you.

Mill Valley, CA, January 11, 2006 Iron Realms Entertainment, an independent developer of text-based MMOs, announced its first 3D MMORPG today: Earth Eternal. Set in a high-fantasy world that combines real-world history, legend, and myth with original creations, Earth Eternal will provide a high-quality experience without the burden of a mandatory subscription. Players will be able to play for free, paying only when they feel the game is worth contributing to.

Matt Mihaly, CEO of Iron Realms, said, "As a developer and publisher, we are beholden to nobody but our players. I control a majority share of the company, and as we self-publish on the net there's no Wal-Mart demanding changes to our games." Matt continued, "We're free to indulge our creative impulses, but at the same time, Earth Eternal is intended as a family-friendly game so you're not going to find extreme content in it."

Earth Eternal's release is planned for summer, 2007. Unlike many indie MMOs that announce, Earth Eternal is fully-funded past release, and prospective players can be sure that it will open. Come find your next online home with us, and be part of the beginning of a phenomenon!

    When will Earth Eternal release?
Sometime during the summer of 2007. That's as specific as we can get right now. If you want, sign up for the newsletter on the front page and we'll let you know when it opens, and as developments come along.
Ummm thats only a half a year from now & the only pictures I can see are renders, no ingame screenshots. (The renders look fairly low polygon count).

Little information about the game overall & sadly it looks like a WoW-clone, but since its free (item shop or similar) you wont loose any money at least.

This line really caught me. Who the hell wants to give away money?

Assuming it's not one of those terrible "pay to upgrade" mmorpgs then I believe it would work as a donation system. I don't think that asking for donations for putting up a free and working product that provides the necessary entertainment benefit would be flatly denied by everybody. People are more generous than you think, and they're especially more generous when the thing they are getting is free in return.

Type Seed Game into your search engine. Go to the game's website and learn about it. It may be the best game you've continued to ignore.

I'd donate money to a good game that i could see myself playing for a long time. for example if SWGemu worked and i found a good server with a good community I would donate 15-20 bucks a month to the cause.

Thats intriguing. I've kicked around playing some Iron Realms games many times (still have the site bookmarked) but I always have trouble in text based games keeping my sense of direction and usually end up getting bored to death of typing commands in the interface. The FAQ doesn't seem to have the same flavor as the descriptions of their MUDs, though. Well I guess we'll see. Suprised at the release date, summer '07 and not in beta yet. Hem.

It looks kinda cute. Like Ragnarok with animals... I may give it a shot one day.

I've donated about $50 to Kingdom of Loathing over the years, and about $25 to Urban Dead.

I've also purchased a huge number of shareware games and apps.

People actually do so, believe it or not...

    Who am I?
    @Lorechaser on CoH
Badjuju, Splinterhoof, Plainsrunner on WoW (Moonrunner)
    Shyy'rissk on SWG (Flurry)
ClockworkSoldier, HE Pierce, Letnev on Planetside
    Gyshe, Crucible, Terrakal on DDO
    And many more.

People donate to things randomly sometimes even though it's obvious it won't turn out to be anything good, anyway I am also sure they can't make the deadline of summer 2007 with the work done I have seen so far.

Iron Realms have a pay-for-perk model, you can play for free but if you want advance your char its better to put cash on the table. (Its possible to get a strong char without paying but it probably takes much longer).

Iron Realms have quite a high user count on their MUDs but i still prefer www.carrionfields.com/ . (perma death, enforced RP and unrestricted PK)

they'll make it into a twitch kiddy game...  iron realm's muds are unplayable with out at least 20 or so alliases,  and then for the normal person to play you need to delve into reflex's.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

20 alliances? , I'd like to see how they will do an Alliance war, it would be crazy

    Alias not Alliance

I MUDs you sometimes have long commands like: "cast 'elemental shield' earth Legolas" that you have to type.

To speed thing up certain mud clients let you create a so called alias with a scripting language. You then only have to type:"cse Legolas" to do the same as the longer command above for example.
