Not a very good community so far, but a fun game for me.

I did'nt know what to expect when I started playing, but so far I have seen alot of truly terrible people.  From shout argument's, to terrible group-mate's that are high-strung, or just plain group killers..This game will suck in a very bad way for someone that's can't or wont join guild's, or who is not able to play with friends.

PuG's in WoW are pretty horrible, but untill the "noobs" of Vanguard "learn2play", I see alot of people, ALOT leaving because of a crappy playerbase..the one un-patchable flaw in MMO's and online games today.

Anyways, the point is..Dont go into Vanguard expecting to find alot of mature, team player's..it's as bad as I've ever seen in WoW, though its possible that when the game becomes pay-to-play, alot of the filth might not be able to log in anymore. Now that i think of it, the community is the exact same as i've seen in free games, like Asian MMO's. But i have real doubt's that it will improve by very much post-release.

And sorry if i sound like an "eliteist", But i have never felt it was bad to dislike or ostrasize people who obviously have no interest in being apart of a team & who dont contribute to a good group atmophere.

As far as the game goes, it's really fun in a good group, but not very cool in a bad PuG & boring as hell solo. When you with a good team, your group is a pretty mean thing & it's fun using your abilitys in tandem, but when solo it's ungodly slow & pretty much single clicking at something that is biteing you or casting spells at you, ect.

Bad group's are a nightmare, because it's not easy putting one together & is no fun when people are wanting to start, acting impatient (thats a very common one, lots of "can we hurry plz??" "are we gonna go or wat???" and then, with luck you find a person you need and within 5 minutes some Dreadknight start's pulling while your going over the plan & then fear's an add into a big group of mob's standing 30 feet away, and people quit the group & your back at square one.

I know i'll play, and hopefully i will meet some cool people or a good guild, but im sure that I will quit if that dosent happen, and alot of other people will as well, and the server population will eventually drop, and then Vanguard will be dead :).

Too bad we cant all "just get along" imo.

Edit: Oh yeah, i should include some info on PvP in vanguard. From the little i have seen so far, its pretty simple. Tanks beat other tank's and possible under-geared healers & casters, DPS melee kill tanks and casters, and healers kill the whole spectrum, depending on the healer and what they are fighting. That's at low level's though, Im sure that as class' get higher, specific skills and spells will change that 100%.

For example at low level's, casters have no defense at all vs DPS melee. but later on may get powerfull mezz spells or other types of spell's which will give them the upperhand.

The reason for the community is thus:

Vanguard is made by the people behind the original EQ, it is described as a hardcore, complicated & slow paced game and it has many of the good aspects (apparently) from woW and EQ2.

As a result, you are getting the elitist, snobby EQ1 hardcore players, the bored WoW players and the disgruntled SWG/other MMO players.

It's a dirty mix of all the hardcore vets from every game out there. You are going to get the biggest snobs and the biggest nobs. As a high profile 3rd gen MMO, it's a vets game and the majority of us are bored and lacking the enthusiasm we had a few years back.

Edit: A quote taken from Fight Club which i think helps sum it up:

"We've all been told that one day we'll all be millionaires, movie gods and rockstars...but we won't...and we're slowly learning that fact...and we're very, very pissed off.."

Alas, well put and I feel much the same. I never cared if people called themselves hardcore or casual, cause I feel each to his. But there is so much spam, so much verbal degrading, so few people answering or talking or helping, it is really sad.

And YES the verbal elitarism of Brad McQuaid and his sort, THEY are responisble VG attracted to many idiots. Just read the macho aggro hardcory speech they had for a very long time, about making the most hardcory, difficult, big uber game for the best and the elite! Pft... I never liked WOW much, but all that verbal degrading filliung the shout, endless debates about ATI or NVIDIA, WOW or not WOW... and few really help anyone who asks something. Sad. But not surprising, I must say.

I dont think using beta to give the community a score card is fair. Right now there are alot of people from alot of different games coming to play and try the game out. Some are just here so they can say they tried it and it sucked, others are here to actually play and plan on retail, and others are just beta hoppers who hop from beta to beta.

About a month into the game, once the free 30 days expire we will see what the REAL community. At that point you can make your statement.

There are good players and bad players, nice players and mean players, however atm there is no community... games not out yet. Give it a few weeks before you decide that the players arent what your looking for.

What the op describes above happens in every game that's like this one.  It really has nothing to do with this being Vanguard nor are events like these out of the norm.

When you make a random group you don't know what to expect from the other players.  It's a gamble of chance, a gamble that the group you now have will turn out to be a good one.  And with that,  you can accomplish whatever goal you're seeking as far as the missions involved.

I think everyone here has been in terrible groups as well as really good ones where you finish what you began with no one dying or with a really low death count among your group.  Just like being in very bad ones where you have one or two players who mess things up by being overly aggressive and not thinking things through before acting on them.

So this doesn't happen simply because of this game or just in this game, it happens in every game too.

    yep

Thats why its nice to find a group of people that you can move from game to game with. The longer you play the more people you meet with similar interests. Do yourself a favor and create a free forum somewhere and get your friends access to it, whether your in the same guild or not. Over the years new games will come out and some of your old friends will come with while others might not, but if you can start with even 2 or 3 people it will give you an edge and a good pool of people to play with and add too.

I havnt played the beta since it went open. From my experiance the community is great. I never had any problems with ppl in pugs. Everyone was very helpful. Giving out items as we pass, free buffs, etc.

The only idiots i ever noticed were a few ppl on world chat.

Solo till lvl 10 and you will get away from most of the jerks. I have not had any problems with anyone there. The dickwads do get into shouting matches over the area speak BUT you can shut that off and tell them all to go to hell. People are REAL BIG when they are behind a computer screen but even the assholes are nice when there are less involved or they need something.

to the op, i think its totally random in just about any game, speccially in a beta where ppl know that this wont be the toon they need to build a good rep for, but as time goes on, you usally find like minded players and make a home, i dont expect this to be fully relized in the remaining 2 weeks, but after release.

I have had the complete opposite experience... Almost everyone I've played with has been pretty cool and I've grouped a lot. Hell one quest where the spawns are slow  the other campers and I all group up just so we could finish.  My groups for Gardens (with my orc shaman) were all pretty good and just this morning I had some fun in arcanium (high elf cleric)  with 3 other people, naked corpse runs and all.

I have run into some jerks: a duo of people who were after a 3 dot quest mob and wouldn't invite my cleric I sat and watched as the mob beat them with 5% health left. Then a tank came and we duo'd the mob as they watched naked. That area of high elf quests had a number of jerks as there's a couple mobs that drop decent loot.

The regional and shout chats can get pretty dumb primetime. Not quite "barrens chat" quality but pretty bad. I've found that for quests and stuff people are generally pretty willing to group up since aggro is unforgiving.

Of course I play a healer so I don't have to deal with idiots who don't heal. I imagine that could be frustrating as I know it pisses me off everytime I play a non-healing class.
