So, I got in beta 4. Couldn't even bear to log into WoW for one minute after I started playing VG. VG was fun, interesting, cool. My RL friends who play WoW were a bit steamed, but I figured I could move them over once they burned through BC. I cancelled my 3 WoW accounts (my mains, my bankers and the account my kids play on, they are real little and don't really care since they like whatever I am playing).
Only problem of course was the lag and weird NPC and PC animations.
So, I bought a new, relatively high end video card (7950GT) and bumped the ram in my Athlon 3500+ machine to 2 gb. And the game still lags and FPS is not very good (yes, it is wonderful at times, but face the building in OA Riverbank with 10 people out front and it drops to 10fps.
I also hit the proverbial brick wall regarding soloing. I could group in the Hive or for the other quests (which is pretty fun), but there is hardly anything else to do at those levels. I would have expected to find dozens or more quests (say what you will about WoW, but the quests kept you busy).
Anyway, if they add some quests, if there was at least 50% solo content, if the animations get fixed and the lag is corrected I will definitely come back to VG. Incidentally, these are the same flaws that EQ2 had at launch for the large part and I understand that they have been all fixed. So, I played the Fae EQ2 trial. Funny, it turns out the recent EQ2 expansion (their 3rd) is what Vanguard should have been.
I bought EQ2 and am loving it for now, but I will continue to watch VG and see how it is going.
Good luck.

It didn't convince me to buy, but if you haven't yet you must try the new starter zone out.
