Is it to much to ask for a mystical swordsman?

It seems I can never find a recent game that has a magical melee fighter class who's power isn't fueled by holy/unholy/evil or music :(  (Barring FFXI)

Doesn't Vanguard has a Dark Knight class or something like that?

Dread Knight more or less falls under the Unholy/evil category.

Considering the usual way melee fighters work, the only way to accent them with the addition of magic is:

    • Healing for longer fights at lower damage
    • Lifetaps for longer fights at lower damage
    • Spells (or songs) that beef up damage, regen life, etc for shorter fights at higher damage

The lack of information on what you are envisioning makes it hard to supply you with an idea of how to cater to your play style.

    Would you want a Nuke/Melee, Buff/Melee, etc?

I mostly mean, weapon enchantments, buffs, touch spells, and minor general magical abilities.

    Thanes/Champions in DAOC

Inquisitor of Vanguard is supposed to be a "anti-magic" tank with probably some spells. well once they get the class in game.

probably it easier to explain holy/unholy fighters and where thier power comes from without having the mage crowd feeling neglected. god forbid you don't want to get the mage/wizard community all huffy and pouty.

World of Warcraft: Shaman or Warrior both have similar abilities to those.

Warrior: Can self buff, debuff targets, has fear-like abilities, etc.  If you choose Blacksmith or Enchanter you can enchant your own weapons with buffs

Shaman:  New Talent spec allows dual wield, can use shields, have buffs, can use a range of spells, can wear mail armor, um...have totems and weapon enchants.

guildwars dervish is pretty close(uses scythe as his classes weapon though).  its about maintaining enchantments and dropping them.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Horizons: You can become a hybrid of whichever classes you want.  I had a Chaos Warrior at lvl 60, switched classes to Cleric, leveled that for about 30 levels, switched back to Chaos Warrior and low and behold i took over the cleric abilites with me to supplement what i already had as a Chaos Warrior.  Great for class uniqueness, pity about the rest of the game though.

Asheron's Call, you can't play a strict melee avatar in that game. You need at least two of the four magic skills; Item magic and Life magic. And preferably a third, Creature magic

So, any new games with classes that fit my favorite character mold?

There are a couple Korean titles with spirit swordsman like Holy Beast.  I know 1 game was ported over that has spirit swordsman but I forget what it was called.  I think I understand what you mean.  Like the swordsman who let off spiritual blasts from thier swords to do massive damage but are kinda frail.
