    To the OP:

I wonder why you even bothered to play the game in the first place. You hate it with a blind passion and no game in any form or shape can deflect such hate. Only sceptical people can be swayed one way or the other and you were obviously not one of them. Which brings me to the following question:

Why did you actually bother posting the whole thing? I doubt you left the beginner's area. I even doubt you gone past level 2.

Your friend is having fun. If this was your best attempt to understand why, then you failed miserably.

I may be wrong but I think the OP was referring to the name of the server and not the character name.
  • BadSpockBadSpock Member UncommonPosts: 7,979

just another flame thread from some guy who thinks any of the 8 million people who play and enjoy WoW give a damn about why he hates WoW and loves to grief noobzorxz or something stupid in a 10 year old game 100,000 people played.....

Sorry if  you divvent like it but God what a whiner the original poster was. How on earth you can judge a game after 5 minutes is beyond me. Believe me im no fanboi of wow and srtopped playing it a while ago and while yes it is simplistic anyone who says its rubbish is up their own arse to be quite honest

Greatness is difficult to appreciate from close up. The great mountain on the horizon is only the ground when you are standing on it.

The big irony that I find in all these WoW bashing threads is that they would try the game, don't even bother to read the lore, and didn't even bother to get to at least level 10 and they think they got it all figured out. I like World of Warcraft because the game is simple and it's fun. I don't need a Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Physics to play it. The big thing in WoW is the lore, the tasks you find are just there to facilitate your leveling up, you don't have to do any of them if you don't want. And yes, it's actually fun to read the quests first before doing it, I know I always read mine first.

I'm not a huge stickler on names but when thats the first 4 names you see ... eh its enough for me. I got an idea I will try an RP server.
log into one of the medium capacity RP servers with another unimportant name. Remake my paladin and skip the damn human movie again. by the way I love the pajamas paladins start with
walk over to the guy with a BIG Bright question mark over his head. he tells me he wants me to walk over to a guy with a BIG BRIGHT exclamation mark over his head. So i do, as i walk I wonder if my character can pull the carrot out of his ass so he runs a bit more like a man.
WOW xp for running 10 feet ... fun!

well I ding i say to myself well maybe now i will get skills that will make combat pretty exciting ... 10 levels later ...
Autoattack, next ... autoattack, next .... autoattack, next ... autoattack, next ................ great  at least i can buff. I buff you and you and you and you.
So i figure, maybe the game gets more fun in groups ... usually soloing does suck to me.

are you kidding me? i have to solo till 60? um isn't this a MMO or something? if I wanted this i would have played Oblivion.

So you went into the game without giving wow a chance and you found out you didn't like it because you went in expecting to hate it and did. I'm so very shocked.

So you login to the game with a excellent name like, in your own words, "Thor's asscrack or something to that extent." and then have the audacity to bitch about the names of other players? Nice-- hypocrite. Second, I played wow solid time for over a year (off and on with eq1/eq2/ac1)... over a full server of characters I don't think I've seen anymore bad names in WOW than I did in EQ1/EQ2... gems in eq1/eq2 like "innkeehoe" "sirspanksalot" "aszninjer" etc... bad names aren't exclusive to WOW. All games have horrible names in the newbie area that i've ever seen... although lotro has been better than most, I fully expect on release for it to be just as bad... or maybe worse with 600 variations of gandalf running around. WOW is actually much harsher on the names, they don't just give a name change generally if it's really bad. They just grease the entire character regardless of level... had it happen to a few joke characters. Personally, I love bad names in ANY game... just tells me who I *never* want to group with when I'm not goofing off.

So largely your problem is with any game with "tells" for quests. Get used to it i'd suggest, almost all the next gen games have them. Lotro is rings, vanguard took one off wow, etc... Then you proceed to bitch about combat. Which is exactly ... like... everquest 1... everquest 2... vanguard... lotro... oh wait, just about EVERY MMO ON THE MARKET. So if you hate that mechanic so much... why are you playing any fantasy mmo in general? Hell even EVE is a modified version of the same. Everquest1 was notorious for having some of the WORST combat ever... I know I played for 5+ years. There were fights when I went and made myself food as the warrior because after I gained agro there was nothing to do, turn the thumper on and walk off, it'll autotaunt constantly.

I hear the same thing in EQ1, EQ2. Shrug. Depends who you run with, I played with my friends in WOW, was a lot of fun, we grouped and made a few levels a night on average. Shrug. There are plenty of people who group constantly... you just didnt take the time or care to look for them. Although, in defense of your point, I will say there is -0- reason to level at levels <10... just because it takes <1hr to get to 10 alone.

this game is exactly what i thought it was going to be like.

Classes are diverse, at least as much so as EQ2. More so if you consider the skill trees and how differently they make your character play.
I can't argue with the customization aspect, all customization in wow comes from items realistically.
The people are exactly whoever you want to find, the names are just like any other mmo... with the added bonus you NEVER see them at 40+.
Graphics are cartoony, which is a style, its neither here nor there all said and done, personally I prefer AC2/EQ2 (post model changes-- the first set were plastic.)
As opposed to say, EQ1 races? EQ2 races? There isn't a huge selection, I'll give you that, but they're every bit as unique as EQ1/EQ2.

This game is exactly what you thought because everyone finds what they look for. That simple you looked for the worst and glossed over the best parts of everything. Nothing wrong with that, its just another form of mental masturbation, "See I knew I'd be right, I agree with me!!!!" Does it really shock you that you hated it when you never gave it a chance? It doesn't shock me and I've only had a few psychology classes.

I have my fair share of problems with WOW (which is why I'm not playing it), end game bites ass and is nothing like the rest of the game, "the barrens", economic problems caused by rapid inflation, etc. That being said, wow is the most highly polished of the 2nd generation games. It is EQ2 (Which I am playing), it is AC2 (Which is canceled), WOW Just took what was already being done, sanded it smooth, applied stain, several coats of varnish, and let it dry. Shrug, no big either way, opinions are like bungholes, everyone has one and thinks everyone else's smells like crap.

My problem with that comment is... how is that different from:

EQ1, AC2, EQ2, DAOC, SB, etc... every. other. game. available.

Wow is just the polished turd at the top of the heap... but it's still a turd.

But I agree, hard to understand the success of WoW, some things are pretty good, e.g. clear quest descriptions or the graphics engine (just the technique, not the look) and I don't even want to start about the negative things, sure got mentioned zillion times on this board ....

Largely, I think the reason is... people want some social interaction, but they don't want stuck in the situation of "you HAVE to group to make decent progrss" which then leads to a game that allows soloing to be successful then the powergamers refuse to group. Shrug.

    1. Shadus is my new best friend.

    2. If I think "Man, I hate Coconuts." and I try to eat one, I am going to hate it.

    3. In every MMORPG I've ever played the Human race has been boring, plain, and usually looks like Fabio on a bad hair day.  You seem to be trying to experience something totally new and innovative by playing something old and usual.

    4.  If I played a game you liked for ten minutes, said THIS SUCKS LOL and quit, would you think I was a very devoted gamer?  Probably not.

    5.  Every MMORPG I've played uses grinding as a way to create progression for a user.  Hell, even Dungeons and Dragons had BOSSES that dropped LOOT which players QUESTED for.  I mean...it's the way the turd plops.

5a.  Please give me an idea of an MMO that suits your playstyle. If you say EvE I have a really good place for you to stick your thumb.

Again, but how is this different from EVERY OTHER GAME? Do you hate all of the other mmos? If you want to talk about screwed up drop rates, look at EQ1... hell EQ2 in many cases (although some quest update on mob kills not drops... but wow has the same kind, shrug.)

I saw a Blizzard post about this.

TWO REASONS WHY YOUR QQ IS STUPID:

    1.  You are a powerful female Night Elf.  You shoot arrows while your cat pet mauls.  When you finish killing most prey, chances are most of their boyd (Including claws) is badly maul'd/arrow'd.  Sometimes you are lucky enough to harvest a perfect looking claw from a target.  Think about it like this, if your mom asked you to go pick her some flowers, and you stamped all over the flowerbed before trying to get one, how many would you actually think pretty enough for her?

    2.  Questing is suppose to help you level.  Would you really get that far if you found the quest items in the first two minutes of grinding?  No.  You would be on here complaining that quests are too easy and you ran out at level 14.

You fricken moron, READ my post ... I was commenting that the NAME OF THE SERVER was something that escaped me so therefore i jokeingly called it THOR'S ASSCRACK.

I guess this is WoW's intended audience though huh? perfect example.
