The new item mall

Not a flaming post, but i seriously suggest people check out the item mall that the gms have just initiated before considering whether they want to play this game. Alot of the people i knew in-game were disappointed with it. Basically you can buy a scroll to level a skill up to lvl 31 in an instant. You can get 12 hour scrolls where you avatar can just stand around in town afk getting 10,000xp per second :/ in a skill hes perhaps never even used. There are alot of real immersion killers too, but that not the real problem. Anyway, dont take my word for it, check it out....its why i stopped playing...if you like the idea of shortcuts and getting to the top the easy way with your own money maybe this is the game for you. Perhaps if you dont mind always playing second fiddle to little Johnny with rich parents, and just want to play occasionally its still worth a shot, it is "free" after all :/...apparently...

Nothing really odd there. They remove the gold sellers and power levellers, and take that money themselves, instead of a monthly fee. So the cheaters can still cheat, the real players still play, just the farmers and powerlevelling companies that suffer. Perfectly ok with me.

Yeah, I thought I would hate that also, but I'm finding that it doesn't really bother me.  I still increase fast enough to do some pretty cool things.  The ONLY thing I am finding that does irritate me a little bit is I find the ship battles either incredibly easy or incredibly deadly.  There doesn't seem to be any sort of middle ground anywhere.  Maybe though I just haven't found it.

I also thought I would be bothered, but surprisingly, I am not.

Maybe it is because I realize this game offers much more than a race to be the higher level player and then game over. Low level lumberjackers and other collectors are needed, low level traders do have their own quests for guilds so everybody can help. If anything, getting high levels is a matter of time, If people pays, they will get there faster.

Anyway, if the game was just about killing monsters and I was being killed and killstealed by people using the cash shop, I might get tired. But since it has not happened to me in most MMORPGs, i bet it WONT happen to me here, as there are so much other things to do.

In games like this one, it is true that arriving fast to your destination is not what is important about traveling, but enjoying the walking is.

The only thing that bothers me is pay to play FEATURES, like they did with pets. Not allowing free players to experience this part of gameplay is something I consider far too much to "encourage" people to use the cash shop .

Interesting, most of you dont seem too bothered by it. Well, im not gonna argue or try to persuade you otherwise. Fair enough. I just thought people should at least check the item mall before they start playing. Judging by the reactions here, alot of people wont really care. But, my own personal experience from my guild and some friends, is that there are those who wished theyd known these types of scrolls were coming in advance. Sure they knew about the item mall and guessed thered be double xp options, but some of those 12 hour afk ones are a step beyond anything ive ever seen. I agree with what you say about a game not being about a race to max out your levels and try to be number one, I really do...but something just grates with me about this mall, and I find myself logging in less and less, to the point where I might as well say I've quit. I'm not alone.

My main worry for those remaining who stay for friendships and the community is that over time these items will cause alot of players to leave, to be replaced by a very different type of gamer, you know the type i mean. Who's pretty much played every item mall korean/chinese import game out there, who only plays to be number one, and doesnt have any qualms about spending mummy and daddys money to race to the top. And lets not forget this game is PVP. Just wait til these guys get high enough to start pking, theyll be ubered up to the eyeballs with item ship buffs...expect to get sunk, then get a nice friendly litle message "yo ma biatch!" or something to that effect. All im saying, is item malls like this, in my experience tend to attract a certain type of player that well...to put it blunty do my $(*£ing 'ead in.

    /lecturing mode off.

edit - heres a link to another discussion with a picture on this exact topic in the open beta section of these forums.

I hear what your saying mate.  I just think that a lot of us really don't care too much if someone pays to get to the top fast.  Most of us just play to have fun in our own lil world of friends.  Also you might want to check out the VC forms again, IGG just announced that they have removed a few items from the mall because of some feedback from players about unbalanced game play with thoes items.

I think you cut off IGG too soon mate.  If they want to try a new item, so be it....atleast this company listens to there customers and trys to make as many of there players as happy as they can.  There are a good number of P2P and F2P MMO's that I can not say that about.  So seeing IGG's reaction to there players request is a good thing, dont' you think?

Yep, youre right, i just checked lol...(and yes i do feel a little of an ass)...the gms have taken the item shop offline in order to remove a few things. Itll be interesting to see how far they go. Im sure theyll keep the double xp ones, and thats fine with me. So...overall...

Positives - the game developers do read forums and listen to opinions

Negatives - i still think the initial list of items is a worrying sign but then i also think smashing a mirror brings you bad luck so...also, alot of guys have already bought and used those crazy afk xp scrolls and automatic zap to lvl 31 ones....im glad it looks like theyre gonna be removed, but i know a few guys in my guild who are already now lvl 50 sword skill or something due to them...and theyre laughing at the guys who were too slow or didnt want to buy them....oh well, such is life.

As for me, im officially a take-it-easy, part-time Voyager now....lol i was playing too much anyway :/

Just look at the state of my eyes -

haha.....Hint:  Use eye drops, they do help.

As for the ppl that have already used thoes scrolls, I really don't see it as a problem.  I think the largest number of us players are more of the layed back type that don't plan on xp'ing fast, or getting the thoes higher lvl's anytime soon.  So they payed money to get there first,  now they get to sit around and wait for us to get there slowly.

I saw something like this when playing L2.  The ones that just had to reach the top lvl's first botted and e-bayed there way to the top.  Just to find out when they got there, there was no one else at there lvl to pvp or play with.  So they ended up quitting after a short time.  Plus they missed a lot of the very cool stuff on the way to the top.

As for the item mall, well that is kind of what this game is built around.  If they don't have stuff that ppl want to buy then they  won't be making the money needed to keep the servers up.  And from I can tell the company (IGG) really does want to reach out and give there players what they want.  I am sure from time to time other items will be put in that makes the game unfair,  but after seeing there reaction to this.  I am sure they will listen to what there players have to say, and make the changes needed to keep as many as they can happy.

I dont believe the scrolls are on sale anymore. At least not the last time I looked. One thing I noticed is the Item Mall really has no effect on my personal gameplay. Due to the fact I can make surperior items to whats in the store. Honestly the mall just makes it easier to reach the mid-levels. THe only issue is getting to the mid-levels is grand and all except you dont have the supporting funds the time slower work gains you. Anywho, I havent run into any issues with the mall personally and I dont use it. Well ok ok, I did want a pet wolf and I got my friend to buy me some petfood lol.

Personally I would have preferred to see things like special clothes, weapon skins, ship stuff o the market with te purpose of making you look more unique. As was visible in Flyff (which had very few different stanard armors) people will pay money to make their character stand out of the crowd. Right now I don't see a lot of stuff like that except for the hair coloring items and the speical weapons that are there I have to say look really dumb. I want my character to stand out but not by having him carry an oversized watergun or a styrofoam club. I'd prefer stuff that looks good but also fits in with the game's setting.

So the game is really good but the item mall still needs a lot of work because to be honest, none of the stuff that's currently there really interests me.
