People seems to have issues with WoW. It seems to be the only mmorpg that everyone seriusly hates on. Im not taking sides but im just curius. For the longest time i thought it was just that people thought WoW got more credit then it deserved but im not sure. Once again im not taking sides. I think WoW is a good game, but i also think that its not something super speical. So I ask you to please not make hate remarks like.
" Because it just sux"
" because its a kidy fest dumb ass"
"Becuase i said so."
I would like all respawns to be atleast 2 lines long please.

But thus far game "Y" (WoW) has held strong and game "X" (EQ2,EvE,DnL,CoH) has not grown as the players hoped.... as much envy as hate going on for WoW.
And some people just dont like WoW after playing it, not deep enough, gfx aint their style, didn't click with the community etc.
And you got the guys who burned themselves out on the game and decide a year later its crap and forget the good times.
Very well put.

Nice reply.
Me I watch, hear and play what I want and makes me happy. From Beethoven to Iron Savior, from 12 angry men to Casino Royal and from Daoc to WoW.
See, I don't choose by catigory but rather what I like and think is good. I am sick of putting everything into drawers.
People ask me for good music and I tell them a few bands and if those bands are even close to what you could call "mainstream" they don't like it just because of that.
That being said, most people just don't like the game. However, most people are kind enough to not bitch about it on a forum.
I for one, dislike WoW, a lot. Is it because I hate you for taking away players? No, a lot of it comes from that "Better then you" attitude that was just displayed. Just because you have more people does not make you any better or worst then the next game... Get over yourselves already.
For every one WoW hater out there, there is one WoW fanboi that posts why game "X" is stupid and WoW is so much better! How is that any diffrent from people who bash WoW? Are those guys jealous that there are other games out there and they are not supporting Blizzard? I don't think so.
The game is not many people's style. Most like a deeper game play and mabey they are bitter because there are so few deep games out there and they are angry you can have fun and they can't. Possible. Another possibility is they just hate the GENERAL WoW player attitude.
I got a couple of friends that play WoW that I argue with ALL THE TIME about how stupid it is and he argues back with me. Then I have some friends that don't try and use population size as proof their game is better and we get along fine. People that don't understand that is what usually starts conflicts.
Also, I hate Blizzard. They are about the worst game company out their. They really don't listen to their player base. If they even put out a game, it takes forever and has nothing new or original that would warrent such a wait. I mean, they just announced that in a couple of years they will produce a Starcraft or Diablo sequal... this game better be massive, because they have had almost a decade for Starcraft 2 and they can't commit to anything more then "A Couple of years"... come on...
I'd like to say that there's another side of the coin which LordCaptain hit on.
You see, if you go into any number of other forums about other games, there's always a bunch of posts hating on whatever specific game it is. For example, in the Vanguard boards, or the WAR boards. The thing is alot of these threads are created by WoW fans who (for no seemingly good reason) decide they need to bash on any game that isn't their own. So I think alot of the anti-wow crowd is responding to the parts of the wow-crowd that have attacked their game of choice.
Personally, I think WoW is probably the best developed, most polished, and in general the best mmo out there. It's a great example of another milestone that we need to meet and surpass in MMO development. However, I don't play WoW myself, I find the game boring and repetitive. That's just my opinion.
So the question should be not only why do people like to hate on WoW, but also why do WoW fans like to hate on other games?
"Because it's easier to nitpick something than to be constructive." -roach5000
well a lot of people hate on EvE too, just EvE has at least 10 fans here for everyone who doesnt like the game
I usually dont hate on it, but i really find it hard to imagine how anyone finds something so slow paced to be very interesting. But then again the Sims sold a hell of a lot of copies, so i guess there is a big market for such games

Back to OP. Why people hate everything thats famous and popular? there can be many reasons. Mostly people are jealous of the success of WOW because there own favourite game is unable to become that BIG. And it has nothing to do with WOW fans posting flames on each and every mmo board on mmorpg.com. Can you actually believe this bullshit written by blurr?
This is probably the worst excuse for a post that I have seen in awhile. You have contradicted yourself so many times its pathetic. Its exactly this reason why developers dont listen to the playerbase.
So you are criticizing Blizzard for not coming out with games sooner? They release almost flawless games, which no other company does. I suppose smooth bug free play means nothing too you. I guess you are playing Dark n Light right now? Yah I bet its this type of opinion that the moment a manufacturer doesnt release a completely finished product people are whining about how buggy and low on content it has. Yet when WoW holds back its release date to release superior products you complain about that. There is no way they can win in your eye.
Nothing original by Blizzard huh? Are you even talking about the the same company. Please tell me the games similar to Warcraft that were released before it? Next try showing me the Starcraft games it was cloned from. Oh and lets not forget Diablo, ya they really cloned that game from someone. Geez you have to be kidding me, what complete retarded opinions. Every single game that blizzard has released, has been an absolute success, with nobody even close to them. Thier products are so successful that every single one of them are still in stores TODAY a full 10yrs after its release dates.
Then you say that all the other games have more players then WoW combined. UMMM WRONG AGAIN. Try WoW has more then all the other MMO subscribers of other games combined. If you dont count L2 then its probably triple, if you do count L2 then its almost double.
I would continue with more but another poster has already shown the stupidity in the arguement you were making.
@coffee - Nice post I agree with all points you made
@OP - Take a look at the hater in this thread, pretty obvious he is jealous of his friends fun. I suppose if he keeps telling himself enough times Blizzard sucks he will eventually believe it, and therefore can justify his argueing with his superior intelligent friends.
Hating another game is a way for some to convince themselves their own game is better, which in turn proves that they aren't enjoying it so much if they feel the need to bash on others. We Guild Wars players have to endure this sort of treatment from WoW/EVE/etc. players all the time, live with it.
Dune II? Elder Scrolls? The entire Ultima lineup?
Are you serious here? Because I cant tell. I suppose just because Warcraft and Dune are RTS that makes them the same lol. I guess if you are going to try to define things that way then there isnt going to ever be another game that is orginal. Comparing Warcraft and Starcraft to Dune and Diablo to Elderscrolls 1, is like saying that Counterstrike is a knockoff of Doom. Yes technically they are the both FPS but they are completely different.
But then Doom was a knockoff of Wolfienstien, and Wolfenstien was a knockoff probably from some Apple or Commodore or Atari game. So technically under your definition everything is actually a knockoff or derivative of Pong? Thanks for showing me the light, WoW is a pong knockoff, good job identifing that, now everyone can sleep better tonight.
If I was 12 and played Diablo at release then that would make me what 1yrs old playing Diablo? I must have been born a gamer. Also if you look at my profile you will see im not 12. Gotta love uninformed posters.
Um, ok. I "hate" WoW BECAUSE:
You cannot escape from it. That's the ONLY reason. No matter what you do you still hear about it wherever the hell you seem to go. It's like a bad dream you cannot wake up from. Every friend I have almost plays it and that makes my ordinary day life a complete mess with tons of WoW talking.
When many people wants to do something with their friends they might go on about "but I can't I have a raid today" or something like that. And that also submits to the irritation some might have with the game.
I persoanlly also doesn't support the popularity WoW has gathered due to it's type of game. A level+items+time based game instead of a sandbox MMORPG with tons of RP depth. I just don't want that genre to be the most popular making fewer and fewer Sandbox games come out on the market.
As it seems today though that just doesn't seem to be a problem. There seem to be many on the horizon. Though none ever made and controlled by such a powerful company as blizzard. Any MMORPG players dream.
Nowadays I just "bash" WoW because it's so funny with all the fanboyism the game has. I seriously can laugh loud many times against many of the responces I receive throughout my "bashing" runs. I also just wanna try to make a point by putting the game up against the wall for being the "most popular" MMORPG out today.

And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "
Its really simple. I said this over 2 years ago, and I might as well say it again. All MMOs suck right now except WoW which is descent. Same boring ass gameplay, same boring ass quests, and same boring ass storylines. Its really quite simple why its all boring too, because when you break it down its all the same manufacturing job and you rinse and repeat through the same actions for 8+ hours a day. You don't play games to work, you play them to break away from reality for a second and have some fun. There is an exception though in the sand box based mmo's. In those they don't even hide the fact you are working, its outright called work which you do 99% of the time your in them. Its really no surprise how people can get tired of an mmo in less then a month with the exception of WoW which usually takes 3 months earning it the descent standing it has. The only real exception is when a person has become addicted to an mmo hoping it turns out better, don't want to turn thier back on what they have built, or have some other addicted companions.
If you want a truly good mmo you have to bring in some sort of challenge into it, which the burning crusade does with difficulty level instances. However, the most successful challenge has been seen in many forms of PVP which hasn't been perfected in an mmo yet. Not even Ultima or Lineage II. However, its slowly being perfected in that inbetween of MMO and Single Player. Games like NavyField, Shot Online, Rakion, and Gunbound really show how to create challenging environments for the player to participate in.
In the end isn't quality PVP what we all need in an MMO? It gives tactical challenge and thinking, it helps re-enforce a players reputation, and the world truly becomes dynamic. However, I doubt we will get any PVP based mmorpg passed the level of Ultima for atleast a few years, and the kinks in ultima are evident.
I can't figure out what is the point of going at one another about which is the best. However there is one thing I despise and that is players talking about another game that they haven't fully explored. That is why most players consider EVE a boring game when it is everything but that.
Now about blizzard being not being an original company I got to words for you "get real"
who made the first true RTS videogame?
How many blizzard games were consider a turning point in there genre?
How many blizzard games were nominated for game the year?
Look up the answers for these 3 questions and tell me what you think afterwards.
One. Diablo. The rest have been finely polished refinements in established genres. I'd still argue that Total Annihilation bests any blizzard RTS ever made.
Who knows? Every idiot magazine has their own private GOTY.
So it is just pure and simple logic, that no other game has more then 1 million ppl, who hate it.. because no other game has so much ppl who played it.
And just some additional reasons:
- because it just sux
- because it is a kiddy fest dumb ass
- because i said so
and one extra:
- because it is a boring repitive item grinding game
It is the thing for MMO's as it is for any other subculture: When something gets too popular, some people will start hating it. WoW is VERY popular and therefor a lot of people will hate it just because of that.
People who has great experience in MMO's, has for years had a knowledge of something that most other people did not have, and that would make anyone feel "special". Now suddenly WoW comes along and makes the MMORPG-genre know to the broader public segment of gamers...when this happens the "older" more experienced MMORPG-players suddenly aren't so "special" anymore.
Now to regain the status of having this exclusive knowledge about how great MMORPG's are, these people simlpy HAVE to hate WoW, for no apparent reason. This way they can again feel better and more exclusive by differentiating themselves from "the common mob" *spits*
This is an extremely childish behaviour, but a VERY natural and common behaviour too, with no apparent age boundaries. Its the same thing with music. People will love a certain unknown musician, right untill the day the musician is known by every neighbour and their dog...now suddenly the music isnt exclusive anymore, and the initial love will turn to hate.
I love when people post WHY they love or hate a certain type of game..then you can have a real interesting discussion. But when the love or hate has no definition and the person posting it only want to see it his/her way, then the reason for the "reply" button disappears. Then it's not fun or interesting anymore.
In some length i agree with the OP, and altho i havent been subsribing to this website since day one, i've noticed an increase in meaningless love/hate posts without any opening for discussion. This could probably be because of the increase of MMORPG-popularity and so be it..nothing to do about that. But it saddens me a bit to see all these meaningless posts about almost nothing (NOT including this thread, OP )
Disclaimer: I dont play EVE or WoW...i have, tho. And i had fun for the time being. And im glad that other people are still having fun playing these games. I understand why some people hate the game and other people dont. But to simply say that WoW sux, is just not enough. If a game is played by a lot of people and enjoyed by a lot of people, it must be at least ok. I know a lot of people listeneing to some IMO stupid music, but i don't know many people spending their precious time playing a game that sux.
Peace.

for me its more when your playing another game and the universal chat is full of "this game sucks, its a total ripoff of WoW", and "WoW is so much better than this crap" comments, which then start yet another tedious argument and so on. Now I wonder why them people aint playing WoW instead of spending their time bitching.
Can I judge WoW by this though, no, The WoW community might be crap, but the game in all honestly is probably up there with the more polished MMO's. Sure it has it faults but if you dont like it, move on and find one you do like.
