Stretching ear piercings

Okay, so right now I'm doing a bit of DIY stretching with my bottom ear piercings. Its only 18g to 16g, so its only a .2mm difference. I'm currently sliding an extra large safety pin through both of my piercings to kinda loosen it up, and i think one of them is about ready for the tapering (if I taper it at all, that is), but the other one is a bit achey. Do you think I should go ahead and upgrade to a 16g, or wait a bit longer? Or should I stretch it at all? Like I said, its only a .2mm difference, and should shrink right back, if i need it to.

Also, I'm only stretching it so I can wear barbells.

Also, who here has piercings? What gauge? Any particular jewelry type you like?

I worked on a fishing boat with a guy that was right into it... he even had the Prince Albert... makes my eyes water just thinking about it.

As for the ear thing.... Ive never found it attractive... but each to his or her own

Personally the closest I come to piercing is shaving cuts

If it aches then you are doing it too quickly.

Any good piercer will have what are called step tapers. They are about half inch bars where one side is the small gauge and the other is your goal (the next larger gauge). They have 1 rubber stopper between metal end caps (to keep the rubber on). Day one you start with just the small tip in the ear and it will strech one side slightly. after few days you put the rubber spacer on and it strechs it a touch more. As you prgress you move the barbell to the larger end and the rubber stpper farther in until you are at your goal 2-3 weeks later.

The other option is a wooden cone with a rubber stopper, but those require daily cleansings.

Edit: at my peak I had...14 total piercings. The most painful was the nape, which I thought I wouldn't even feel.

Prince Alberts scare the crap outta me. But I find alot of piercings to be sexy on girls, especially on certain parts normally hidden under a shirt. I myself only have one piercing, but have many planeed for when I have some free cash and time.

Ok, Prince Alberts creep me out. I'm not planning on getting any more piercings (now that I have 3 on each ear, two pair done by myself) until I turn 18. I'm only wanting to stretch my piercings up a gauge to be able to wear barbells. I think they're pretty cool looking, and they're fun to play with

EDIT: I thought tapering was supposed to be quick, if you're taking care of your piercings.

And Rreka'al - I might just get those piercings. I just gotta work up the nerve for it.

Whatever you do just DO NOT get both sides of your lower lip pierced. It makes it difficult to drink in public without getting stares.

Definitely not thinking about snake bites. Maybe a tongue piercing. A friend of mine has one, and she said it wasn't too bad to get, so I might (I'm a wuss when it comes to pain, btw)

Continuing on the topic of body modification... What about tats? Artistic Scars? Anybody have any? Anyone planning on getting tattooed, or interested in scarification?

Tongue is one of those places you want to make sure your piercer is on the ball. A single off center piercing is the most risky. It is one of the few places you can bleed out from. Not trying t scare you, but there have been a lot of issues with lack luster piercers since they reduced the requirements to become a certified piercer in most states. In some places it is a month certification course now. The best places have an RN on staff at all times.

I have 1 scarification, bt no tattoos. The scarification was to cover up a rather nasty set of scars from a rock climbing incident. I can not get tattoos due to an allergy. I had to take out all my facial and otherwise noticable piercings due to needing a good paycheck.

I was going to perice my right ear and get a big dimond there, but I'm good without. I know a guy with a prince albert and his girlfirend pulled it out out of anger. He had to go to the emergency room.

If I get my tongue pierced, I'm definitely gonna research. I'm kinda picky about stuff like that (except my ears. I know I'm supposed to clean my brand new piercings, but I've been way too busy to even think about it. ), so I'll be ok with that.

I doubt I'll ever get scarification (I have enough scars already), but a tattoo I'm thinking about. I'd love something that covers my whole back and means something, but in case I ever need to wear something without a back, I probably shouldn't. Oh well. I'll figure it out sooner or later

my rule of thumb: if its permanent, wait 1-2 years before getting it. If its not, its ok to get on a whim.

cleaning new piercings is cheap and easy. Get a refillable squir bottle (sold cheap at almost any camping store) and fill it with witch hazel or hydrogen peroxide (peroxide is better, but can sting and bleach fabrics). Put it in your bathroom or n your desk and use it whenever you see it. That should be more than enough cleansing.

As far as placement and size goes for a tattoo like that a little advice. Avoid the "whack back tat" which is something you would see with low-rise jeans. A generally safe place to get it would be the placement and height of a corset piercing. To determine the height wear your lowest cut outfit and mark it, then go an inch or so lower. If this isn't a god place fr a back tattoo in your eyes, then skip it.

Waiting a year or so is a good idea. Even after deciding it has taken many people I know a year or more to finalize a design post decision.

I like tatoos and would like to get one in the futue but i am piss scared of needles, i cant stand them,  Then to think a needle is going in and out of you over a thousand times

Also i heard that the metal in the tongue stud or piercing couses your teeth to rot faster... and i gives you a weird accent in the first month.

Urban myth. There was a news story once that having a metal tongue stud and hitting it against your teeth would break them. It was unfounded but if you are really worried there are plasitc and teflon based ones on the market. They are for passing through security systems on a regular basis, but they are softer than metal if you are paranoid.

about my tat placement: I was thinking about putting my tattoo on my shoulder blades. I want wings, with one small symbol in the middle. But it would be large, and costly, and permanent, and I don't want wrinkly wings when I'm old

That only lasts a week or so, if it's done right.

Any idea how to pick the best piercing place, or tat shop? If you're too wussy for pain, would you suggest EMLA (topical painkiller)?

I could probably bite the bullet and go without EMLA, and I'd be proud of myself for it, but I am still scared of the pain, though.

The main thing is to keep in mind what your tattoos/piercings will look like when you're older. I know some girls who have these huge holes in their ears (not sure what they call them) with these big washer looking things in them. The holes are so big they could stick a finger all the way through them. It might seem cool right now while they are in their 20s, wait until they are late 30s and even 40 years old..can you say "skanky"?

Unless you are getting a set piercing (such as corset, thrill or similar) you should nly be getting one piercing at a time and painkillers should not be necessary. Even with pain kilelrs you will have a dull ache for tongue piercings for a few hours. All the topicals do is dull the sharp pain slightly. The bigger issue is that improperly applied pain kilelrs can cause more serious issue than most piercings.

Make sure any painkillers are being applied by an RN or otehrwise certified medical personal. Good RNS will check for allergy information if you make an appointment and let them know you want some form of painkiller.

EMLA is supposed to completely numb your epidermis and dermis, to the point where you can't feel the pain at all. And yes, I understand that if improperly applied, it can be useless, or even dangerous.

And also, I understand how tats can migrate. And btw, those stretched piercings will usually stretch back over time, maybe not to a tiny 18g hole, but smaller than a 00g.
