I don't like to do only one thing in an MMORPG. I like to do two things: PvE and PvP. Both are fun a little bit at a time (I've never been much of a crafter). I wouldn't like a game that has no PvP, and at the same time an MMORPG where you logged in at max level and just started wacking the other side wouldn't be much fun either.
However, I only like group oriented PvE. I'm not really interested in playing solo, or games where playing in a group feels like you're playing solo with a few other players around. IMO, that's what WoW feels like in the 1-60 game, which is why I didn't like it. You can easily solo WoW 1-60 so why would you bother to take all the time involved in grouping?
Also, the WoW 1-60 game, IMO, isn't so hot when it comes to grouping. A group of four players killing four mobs is pretty much the same as each of the players not grouped and killing one mob by themselves. By contrast, Vanguard (like the original EQ) has a great grouping game. You really have to play your class if you want the group to succeed, and if you do the group can do really well. If you don't, the party will probably be wiped. I like that style of group gaming. However, Vanguard doesn't have any PvP (besides a couple of PvP servers) so there's nothing to do when the PvE gets old.
What sort of grouping do you think AoC will have? Do you think it will be more like WoW, or more like EQ? Which one would you prefer?
I thought DAoC did a pretty good job of making fun RvR, as well as a good group game in the PvE.

Although this game has proffesions like WoW ( crafting ) and these proffesion s require farming recourses. It would take to much arrangements for the guild to farm for recourses of the land your guild/faction posses.
So adventuring alone and gathering these recourses wont be very effective while you are in a group.
On the otherhand, i believe most quests or conquest are done in groups. Laying siege or simple adventure through dungeons cant be done alone. So assembling the right army or group is essential for victory or survival. I think every class should play his core role in the grp, like priest ( healing ), asassins ( quick kills ) etc. Therefore the leader of the grp needs to look at the tactics and dicide either a defensive or offensive build.
I dont think the player should feel like fighting alone within the grp. It also depends on the atmosphere, the players and the difficulty of quest/ conquest. I played alot of WoW and always runned instances with fixed groups and players. The spirit was high and loose ( joking, compliments and cries of frustration) during the fights on Teamspeak (voice chat prog ). So it depends on your attitude aswell.
We know that most of the mmo players compare AoC with WoW, but on the mainsite of AoC, you can read that the consept is totaly different and can't be compared with WoW.
I disagree completely with Mouth...
D2 is a terrible comparison! Slotted items =/= D2, it wasn't the first game to have them, it won't be the last!
If you want a flavor for the combat, try out Mount and Blade, its CLOSE, but not exactly the same.
There will be plenty of quests and dungeons, I imaging the PvE will be as deep as anything else. And there will be some big mobs that you will need to have the appropriate gems in your weapons, though you won't NEED them per se, but it will make your life a lot easier...
It certianly will be like many old school MMO's where a good group will live and die like its members, but unlike EQ where you are just a paperdoll for whatever equipment you have, this game will be much more skill based. Which is a whole new layer of depth!
