Review from a 2 year+ Beta WoW player! (READ)

Okay Im giving it a 8/10 maybe only a 7!

I played alot of the races and classes tho not too deep. Im say it has a great selection of classes and races. Its way too demanding on hardware. Im running 2Gigs ram and Dual 4200+ AMD Cpu's and Gf-orce Ultra6800 256Meg Asus video card and its still sluggish. Also the servers are so-so on latency still undecided there because it was beta. Anyways the game is kinda of fun yet dry also. Its got a way better community then WoW! PvP system I think will fail tho its more like UO PvP. Its like they slapped PvP onto a PvE game. Bad idea! Game still needs about 1month-3months to be ready I feel. Closer to 1month I think. Its missing the WoW factor Id say... Like how SWG(Original before SONY destroyed it!) and WoW pull you into the game. Example I loved playing SWG and WoW and keep wanting more. Yet with Vanguard it seems alot like SWG in style yet doesnt have that nagging feeling where I want to play it...More of like okay I guess I'll load it up and give it another try feeling.

Anyways hopefully they will add a fun factor into this game. It seems more of a job than a game to me at this point.

Thank you

If the PVP is like UO then I'm sold!

Hopefully the whiners won't ruin it (again) if that is actually the case

I have the same PC and specs Only thing I have a 7900sli type of card 256MB. And I have no probs only but a few glitches now and then. This game is meeting all my gamming needs atm. I find the gamplay to be top of the line in its catergory. (my age 33 btw)

Good post yet I disagree, Ive played just about every MMO that has launched at one time or another in the past 6 years. I have a TON of fun when I play. Hell i went exploring for 4 hours and had more fun then ever. I grouped in some dungeons and had more fun than any mmo since my very first. This game, to me, is a breath of fresh air in a stale genre. Thats just my openion, and I'm the only one who cares about my openion. Disagree if anyone feels

They are releasing a PvP FFA Server and a Faction based PvP server. Im not sure if you can loot the corpses yet tho. They are rushing this thing so much that they arent even able to put up a proper RP realm at launch instead making a PvE realm prefered for RP people with all the same rule sets as other PvE realms! :(

what are the things you liked about it besides the selection of classes and races mmotroy? you mostly talk about the things that you don't like, bad pvp, system demanding, not having the WoW factor, yet you gave it a 7-8/10 which seems pretty high in my books. So could you go into a bit more detail on what you think are vanguards stongpoints?

Couple of points.  First, your age doesn't matter, it's how you present yourself.  For example, if your sentence reads: 'Hi guyz, ym naem is Brian and im 37 wit alot of kidz lolz"  Even if thats true, nobodys gonna believe it.  On that note, I'm 100 years old.  Doesn't really add any credibility to what I'm gonna say does it?  :P

I think the problem with Vanguard is the fact that you aren't presented with a whole lot of its mechanics at the beginning.  The complexity of combat, and the rewards of crafting only show up the higher level you go.  If you're running around as a level 5 or 10, you won't feel very rewarded.  In that regard, you truly have to enjoy the atmosphere Vanguard gives to be able to play it and get to the meat of the game, where it will be really enjoying and addictive.  WoW is very intelligent in gripping you, having been a fan of the Warcraft games and following the lore, I was really into it at the beginning.  Combat is quick and is almost instantly enjoyable, crafting, you will be able to make items that you can use right away, it's all very, instant gratification.  And that's why it holds so many peoples attention, be it adolescents or adults.

With that, I'll say that Vanguard will do just fine, through word of mouth and community the game will grow.  Will it be the new WoW?  No way, it's not that type of game, never will be.  Will it have a good community and be profitable?  I think so.

Another issue I personally have, I really enjoy the game and want to play and advance more in it, but given that it was beta, everytime I started to do some crafting or leveling something in the back of my mind said: "Whats the point?  It's beta, and that characters gonna get deleted, and you won't get anywhere in levels to really mess around with much anyway"  The game takes time to really shine I think, not only in the fact of development, but your time.  The more you play it, the better it gets.  That's why the atmosphere of it has to grasp you, and I think some of the starting areas could really do that (Like the Kojani starting area...)

37?  You're too old to be playing MMO's, how could you possible give a valid opinion?

Actually, I'm much older... and no one cares what I think.  But thanks for sharing your thoughts on the game.  I agree, at times it felt a bit empty, but I found that starting in certain areas were more fun than others.

I enjoyed the backstory of my Orc Warrior, and my Dark Elf Sorc, not so much the High elf or Wood Elf lands.  I never really gave crafting, harvesting or diplomacy a fair trial... I need some documentation dammit so I can read up on it.

    Umm, yeah.

I don't get how your age or this post is supposed to be taken more seriously then anyone else ?

I find it odd how people come here and post "My review is smaterer and betterer than anyone else i beta tested for 50 years now !"

I mean so what anyone can now beta test, its really not that exclusive anymore, and stating you played WoW for whatever amount of time is seriously not an achievement.  Not sure why i am bothering posting or bumping this but there seems to be a plethora of these "reviews" as of late and they all seem to think quite highly of themselves.

I guess all I was trying to say is that I wasnt some snot nose kid giving the review. I was giving my point from an older gamers point of view is all. :)

I tried diplo and crafting today since I didn't really want to get farther in the adventuring game because I don't want to ruin it for myself on release.

Diplomacy was very fun and well written. I felt the reaction of NPCs were pretty realistic and I could see how it would become challenging. Anyone who is into competitive card games will probably like it. Be careful as it can eat up time like a good book.

Crafting is not my thing, never liked it and won't do it in VG. The system, however, is very impressive in VG. You feel like you have a lot of control over what's going on. Along with the taskmaster "quest" system I think it will be a very happy place for crafters. As far as harvesting goes all I can say is that cutting down a tree to get wood is awesome. The noise and the way the camera shakes when it falls and everything is much more visceral than any other game I've played.

Diplomacy will be something I do while LFG for an instance and crafting I will avoid as it is like an entirely whole other game.

Age is an odd point, I keep trying to explain my obsession with MMOs to my wife.  I started playing MMOs back in 1997, that’s 10 years of non-stop MMOs, I haven’t had a full time job last that long.

People always talk about games entering a new era but that is only because of the gamer.  I grew up with the NES and only played with my friends my own age, my parents didn’t know anything about gamming.  Now my 4 year old son is getting into games and I sit and play with him all the time, is game of choice is Flat out 2.  I can’t wait until he gets into MMOs.

I think age has a big factor when it comes to reviews; I’ve played every MMO that hit the market and I have friends who have only ever played WoW.  When I get talking about games I never compare to just one game, I look at them all.  I know WoW is the game to beat but only because of the market it was aimed at.  Don’t get me wrong I like WoW and it’s my fall back game with others turn out to be crap, but it isn’t the game I go back too it’s the community.

When I see a review from someone and all they have to say is “This game isn’t as good as WoW” I don’t read it.  Each Game I have played has its better points.  I like to see reviews about what is good or bad about the game and not on how it holds up to others.

To all you old timers posting reviews, keep them coming and I’ll see you online this Friday.

    Peace
