what are some of the differences that standout between vanguard and eq2? i noticed while looking at some screen shots/ videos(youtube) that it reminded me alot of eq2. just wondering if there was anything groundbreaking or is it sort of a rehash.
1/3 rehash but with different mechanics and style (how the mechanic works -mostly for the better)
1/3 completely original and new
---------------------- Played (In order of favorite first to least): DAOC, EQ2, EVE, WOW, Vanguard, AC2, City of __, Guild Wars, LOTRO, EQ, Sword of New World, FFXI, Lineage 2, Second Life, DDO, Anarchy Online, RF Online, Archlord, Uru, Ragnarok Online, Shadowbane, Planetside, Auto Assault, Ryzom, Matrix Online, Horizons, Entropia, Sims, Runescape, Lineage 1, AC1, Dungeon Runners
The combat is actually more complex than you get an idea of in the lower levels. You know how in EQ2 you can basically get a routine going and use it over and over and over.... it seems in VG mobs will try different things and even grinding the same mobs, the combat wont necessarily go the same way everytime. The higher you get and the more skils you get the more this stands out.
The combat skills lean far more toward EQ1. Roots and Mez's are more old skool than in EQ2, which to me gimped down a lot of the appeal of classic character types like Rangers. For example in EQ2 my ranger couldnt do the kind of mob stopping kite work that you can do in VG like you could do in EQ1. Who can forget kiting cyclopses in Karana *stares in the distance*.... well in VG thjose days are back. No nasty and silly exp reductions for kiting and a choice of several easily chained roots and stuns that in later levels should ensure no one gets near a Ranger who doesnt start near a Ranger
Then we have all the promised and somewhat delivered bits... Diplomacy, which I find a lot of fun and have got to L20 in (not that its very hard to do that). Player housing, mounts from low levels, flying mounts later (they rawk) and the list goes on.
I have played a LOT of EQ2 (42 Ratonga Ranger) and in my opinion VG takes EQ2 to the next level in terms of gameplay but returns to EQ1 in terms of feel.
