I am a veteran of the original EQ and SWG, along with playing some of the more... colorful new MMOs out today. However, no MMO looks interesting until later this year (I will reserve my choice to keep this on topic.) Then I heard about Asheron's Call, and some very nice things were said. Before I get the trial I just want any suggestions or opinions anyone might have. Is there any solo content? Is there enough of a community that I will be able to group later? And how much content is there. I am a big fan of the original EQ's fun PVE and grouping, and SWG for the freedom to manipulate classes and make interesting mixes. Any info would be awesome, thanks.

I think you would be a prime candidate for the 14-day free trial, that should give you a good enough idea if its for you or not:

No other game that I have played has given me the rush that AC still does when it comes to attacking 25+ monsters at once and coming out of the battle the victor No other game that I've played has AC's unique loot system either. Try the 14 day free trial see how you feel about it.
Striving to and surpassing Darkerknight's gimpness.
It's been some time since I last played the game (I went back and played for six months when Throne of Destiny was released), but there did seem to be quite a few people in the 100+ range. There definitely were a lot of new characters as well, but I believe most of those were old players trying out the new race. On the other hand, there has not ever been, nor do I think there ever will be, another game as solo-friendly as Asheron's Call. Lacking a group for the first hundred levels won't slow you down at all, and the climb to 100 is much faster than the climb to 50 in your average game.
If you're the type of player that prefers grouping, then it will probably feel pretty empty to you until the later levels, but it's a soloer's paradise. At the later levels, the experience increase for being in large groups, combined with the diminishing returns for experience, means that grouping becomes much more common. Even then, though, people tend to form groups inside a dungeon to get the bonus, at which point everyone goes and fights alone in a different section. There are quite a few big quests in the game that require groups in order to survive, but the game's core (at least in PvE) has been exceptionally solo-friendly for as long as I can remember, and I started a couple of weeks after the game launched.
I'm a renewed AC player as i've rejoined it a week or so ago recently. I played it for a few years before quitting about 3 years ago.
The game is probably nearing it's end as the population is declining quite rapidly. The game just isn't like it used to be with so few people still playing it.. I'm still enjoying it though. Still, it's obvious the population is down quite a bit.
Unless you are a former player, I wouldn't play it as there is too much content (although it's not really that difficult) to learn and not enough people that still play the game that would show you all the ropes.
I couldnt disagree with this guy more. There are PLENTY of people that love to show you how to play this game. Me being one of them. I have played AC for 6 and half years (give a or take time) and still am LOVING it. I have played WoW, EQ 1 and 2, CoH and CoV, Guild Wars and many more and yet i still play AC. I am levle 260 and i still give my helping hand to any new player that wants to learn how to play. And if you read on this website: www.thejackcat.com the ac dev team is implementing even more content for fellowhips with the addition of the Collaseum (prolly spelt that wrong) and not to mention EVERY Blackmire quest REQUIRES a fellowship. If you get the trail be sure to play on Morningthaw and look me up. My toon's name is Cool Magi Dude and i am usual always on. You can also look up Zeblen if i am not on. The community is prolly the best part of AC and they are always willing to help. If you are confused about anything just go to www.thejackcat.com and you can look up virtually anything about AC.
