If I remember correctly, fellowship is sharing xp.
If members of your fellowship aren't online, they get a % of your xp for a certain time period so they don't get left behind.
Exact stats I am not sure and there are some safety nets to stop abuse.
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS) Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve
What happens is when you join a fellowship, you and all the other people in the fellowship share experience equally.
This means that if there are 4 people in your fellowship, and 1 person kills something, each person gets 1/4 of the experience, even if they are offline. This means that you and each of the members in the fellowship will always get the same amount of exp, whether you're grouped or soloing or crafting or offline. This of course means that one person could be doing all the adventuring, but all 4 would be taking part of that person's exp. It also shows a ratio of how much of the exp each person is contributing to the group.
