So to answer your question: No.

The MMO gaming blog I write for.
P4 3.2ghz
1GB DDR2533
X800XT
160GB 7200rpm
DSL Connection(2mb/s down, .7mb/s up)
With this^ setup I could run on Balanced or High Quality settings at 1280x1024 with med to high bars and get 30-35 fps outside of towns, around 30 in battle or with a few other people on my screen, and 18-25 in the major cities. I just ordered this from newegg.com:
X1900XT
+1GB DDR2533
So I'm hoping to increase that FPS a little and still be able to run it stable with FSAA on when its available.
E8400@ 4.0Ghz ~ Saphire HD 4870 ~ 6GB DDR2@ 860MhZ
I think its going to be my home for at least the next 6 - 12 months.
Just sitting here waiting for the pre-release access time to tick over so we can get this show on the road!!

I have pre-ordered Vanny Soh. I played all of open beta ( was worth my loss in double-cheeseburgers from McDonald's).
I like the smaller grouping option. I had problems finding 40 people I liked in WoW. I know they've addressed that in the expansion( I think), but I was already drawn into Vanny. I would like to RP some, which again, if you don't have 40 friends, goodluck. I know its not a sure thing, but I think the Vannies are dorky enough to pull it off on the ONE RP server they've been given. The size of the game is overwhelming from the small bite I've had. Which is probably the second biggest reason I dig it. I lovvveee adventuring. WoW kind of feels like the same ole given new coats of paint. "Oh, hey look. Now its a desert.....cool....feels the same..." I'm not hating on WoW, thats just how I felt. Probably because my number one reason, I didn't play the old warcraft games until recently. I was a Starcraft nut( and your stupid ass game is driving crazy, I wanna know what happens after the Bonus expansion mission!!!!) so I had no tie to the lore or characters or anything like that.
I know I'm picking on WoW, but its pretty much the only game on here everyone has played without question. Talking about why I quit Guild Wars will probably draw yawns.
But w/e, I'm sure both games PvP systems are better than what I'll get in Vanny Saga of PVE, but its a trade off I'm willing to make, though I shall miss it. And I'll add, if I wasn't a starving college student I'd probably pay for both, but its not to be .
Well said. I have not tried it, I looked at the games FAQ on the site and dev interviews and I won't be trying it but I don't hate it. I like sandbox games and no amount of non instanced player housing or player cities makes up for a level class loot centric game for me. Does it mean Vanguard is a bad game? For me yes but WoWs success shows pleanty of people don't have the same dislike of levels, classes and loot as me.
So to answer the OP question: No but I don't hate the game.
I will most likely try it out if they do a free trial.
First off I tried it.
But preorder is out of question.
The game is not ready yet. It is emptyish , bug ridden and not optimised.
Also if you are going to play it. Dont get hooked by claims that you can run this game on older PCs.
You DO need top line PC to run it , and actually not die all the time due to lag and hitching.
Few more issues
1. Graphic is on EQ2 side. So be prepared for that unatural wax doll look
2. Who ever told this game is casual is lying. This game will be a niche for hardcore raider mentality,
and most of the quests will be practically undoable if you dont have at least 2-3 hours chunks of game time
3. This game offers apsolutely nothing new - and is considerably less fun than some other mmos
Actually i am glad Vanguard is finnaly out of the door. Because it is the last 2nd gen MMO.
Now clear the space for 3rd gen

I played since Beta 2.0 and have pre-order Vanguard. However, I don't plan on actually playing the game until a month has passed it's release. The game has a lot of potential that was beginning to come into shape at the end of beta, but I have a feeling that the release will be kind of messy and I'd rather wait for the first couple of big patches to hit before I jump in and get dirty.
Reasons I love Vanguard:
Atmosphere - From the graphics, to the landscape, to the music. I love to be immersed, and Vanguard does a killer job at that. Much to the extent that I felt when I started playing EverQuest in 1999. (Although not quite, sadly).
Difficulty - I hate the fisher price aspect of most games these days. Although Vanguard does simplify many things for a broader player base, nothing is ever handed to you. I have yet to get that "someone holding my hand" feeling that WoW gave me since it's Beta.
Crafting/Diplomacy - These minigame like spheres of gameplay, although not completely integral, add a whole new dynamacy to the MMO world that I have yet to personally see anywhere else. Plus, crafting is actually USEFUL.
Progression - The way a player gains levels and items seems to be adjusted very well. Somewhere inbetween EQ and WoW where you're advancing at a rate that makes you feel like you're always getting somewhere, but not so fast that you end up getting burned out easily. You're always moving, and your character is always evolving with items, attributes, skills, and titles.
Combat - I feel like I'm constantly engaged in an epic struggle. Whether dungeon crawling with a group or soloing a quick quest during my lunch break. The way that Sigil designed the combat system to include dynamic skill use, still could use more dynamacy though, and great animations with stunning spell effects suck me into almost every battle. More fun with a group though, of course.
Customization - No two characters look the same. Both from character creation (There's almost TOO MANY options for your character's appearance) and from items they wear. Almost every piece of gear shows up on your character (right down to the ring on each finger), and since there are so many cultures and factions in Vanguard, you can really tell what horrors another player has seen by what armor they wear and will be lucky to see someone else in the same exactly gear. I love customizing my stats, and more so my FACE. Every Race has a different bonus/penalty, so what you choose to play as in beginning can have a huge impact on how you play the game in the end.
Devoted Devs - I have never seen a more hardcore and responsive group of developers. These guys are good at what they do. They took a task far more advanced than their own abilities and aren't afraid to admit that, but won't back down from the challenge to achieve even more. They really love their game, and you can feel that with every aspect of Vanguard when you jump into the world.
Atmosphere Again - I probably won't play another MMO until I can be captured by another's enthralling atmosphere. That will probably be in the next gen of MMOs, but I have no problem spending my hard-earned cash on Vanguard until then.
Station Pass! - Never thought that I would praise ANYTHING that the money hungry SOE jerks would think up, but the all access station pass was a great idea. Having access to some 6+ full fledged MMOs and a bunch of smaller budget online games for 30 bucks a month may seem wierd, but when you have gaming ADD like myself it's a God send.
True, the game does have it's problems. It shouldn't be getting released as early as it is, but that's easily solved by just not paying to play it until you feel that the time is right. PvP is still in the works, but that too was shaping up to be a slightly refreshing and very entertaining part of today's MMOs. The first 3 months will determine the game's final outcome, and I have very high hopes for the game, having seen where it was and where it is right now, and having played 80% of today's current market for MMORPGs and FPSs.
Peace.
VG reminds me how MMORPG's used to be, before they got streamlined for newbie gamers and console junkies. I loved Morrowind more than Oblivion for example, because questing was down to exploration and self discovery, and that's how VG feels, and I love it.
Combat is also tricky to master, and the gameplay is definately a tough challenge, especially when you die at later levels, since you lose experience. My first MMORPG was Dark Age of Camelot back in 2001, and before Catacombs expansion came around, getting your character to level 50 was something to be proud of, since it was hard and took many many months to achieve, and currently that's how VG feels.
VG is simply Oldschool.
It has the potential to be a great Fantasy MMO, improving on past formula's doing what it intends to do well.
I however will not be playing/buying it for a while for a couple of reasons:
a) It's community consists of 50% leet fanboi's, 25% uber guilds and 25% jaded MMOer's, the mix is toxic and can be very unfriendly.
b) I don't hate SOE, previously subbed to SWG, Planetside and EQ2 for years each, but they have an expansion fettish, and £25 expansion packs is their favourite method of getting content into their games (i mean, each time i've gone back to EQ2, i've had to buy an expansion pack at £20-30 a time in order to level ffs, and there's been 3 of them) (Edit: I know they are only publishers, but they have the financial say; if they want more income, they will 'suggest' expansion packs).
c) I no longer have the time this game will require. This is more of a hardcore game and i don't fault it for that, but i can't dedicate that kind of time anymore like i could when i was at Uni a couple of years back; I'd never afford a house, a boat and will miss that early MMO feeling, cos let's face it, alot of the players can be described as 'Career MMOer's'
d) Xmas has not long finished which cost a bomb, not helped by me buying my Ex a diamond ring shortly before dumping her (No, i don't know why i did that lol), so im flat out broke until payday
e) First impressions are everything i guess, we've all seen how games that improve down the line still hold the stigma of it's early incarnations, a la EQ2. A month or so polishing will make my first impressions of the game better and less jaded, also allowing some proper reviews to surface and for the economy/community to settle down a bit.
I won't lie, when I first fired up the game it seemd dull, uninspired, very run-of-the-mill like almost no effort was put in to the game. As the beta testing went on and patches were being released every day I started slowly seeing some huge changes, textures looking nicer, my system not groaning trying to load all the graphics (I have an 8800GTX ffs!) spell and melee effects started looking more fluid, gameplay became much more addicting and engrossing, and it got to the point where I felt like I did the first time I ever played DAoC and just fell in love with it
I haven't preordered, I do plan on being one of the first at the store to pick it up though
FFXI: Gauhar - Odin
I didn't get to test the last big patch that changed alot of things, didn't have time and the update was quite big, last time i played would've been at least a week or so ago, so i gotta jump in blind a bit i guess heh.
See you guys in Telon!
I miss DAoC
Asbo
Tried it but the game needs sooo much more work before i would purchase it. As i'm a major PVP fan i think i'll be sticking to the best fantasy has to offer atm and thats WOW. Some people might say DAOC but the controls and the UI are a major turn off, it just doesn't feel fluid like WOW.
It's ok, don't worry, she gave it back rofl
Paying to play Vanguard is kind of like shooting yourself in the face repeatedly with a Dragonov sniper rifle while humming "oh Mc Donald had a Farm" in Japanese, pretending to play out your favorite Bible Black scene.
AKA It hurts and it pointless. Kind of like staying a virgin.
I would've thought that would hurt less
