You know... Us PC users have a nice cable bill each month as well to connect to the internet... Which is probably a bit higher than your xbox live fee.. If I recall, when I played xbox live it was $10 a year(Unless things have changed since then)? Grow up please!

Your point is invalid, you need to pay for cable for xbox live too, how else you going to connect to the net? Not only that it'a $100 for a year of xbox live as a gold member. Way over what a PC user pays. Grow up? He's exactly right, stop assuming and take your own advice ;).

Wow, so many people quoting stats and figures that they know nothing about. :) You all sound like me trying to explain anything related to PC's and MMO's. Yeah I'm a noob. But, when it comes to XBOX LIVE I'm the expert, so here goes.
    1. Yes, to log onto xbox live you have to already have internet (xbox live doesn't magically provide that)
    2. Once logged on, you can experience xbox live with no additional costs to your "normal" monthly internet fee (be it cable, DSL, etc) this is called Xbox Live "Silver" and is included for free for anyone interested. This allows you to have and maintain a friends list, communicate with those friends via voice chat, text, or video chat. You can also play games, download trailers, demos, music videos, movies, and tv shows. MOST IMPORTANTLY microsoft's policy is that you can play MMO's with an Xbox Live Silver Account, so again I will state that it costs Xbox 360 users the exact same as PC users to play MMO's.
    3. Xbox Live also has a service that you can "choose" to pay for called Xbox Live "Gold" And NO it doesn't cost $10 a year, and it also doesn't cost $100 a year. It is $50 a year. These gold members are able to experience matchmaking for games like Gears of War, Lost Planet, and Halo 3. These matchmaking experiences enhance the gameplay and bring it to a whole new level where you are matched perfectly with players you want to be with. With an xbox live "silver" account you can host custom games for Halo 3 over xbox live, and have your friends join. You can also play games with friends who don't pay for live called team training, but if you want to be in a "ranked" match then you need Xbox Live Gold and bungie provides you with an incredible experience where you and your friends can bounce from game to game to game.

$50? Why the hell I had to pay $99.99 for mine then? Also I've never ever heard Silver gets any online benefits, this is why I had to update to Gold it wouldn't even let me play Perfect Dark Multiplayer without it(when that was a big thing), get me some links saying silver allows you to play MMOs. Cause right now I don't buy it.

Gold is required for games that MS have to maintain servers for. Silver is all that is needed if someone else is handling the servers.

It's a reasonable comparison; you're missing the point.  The price of an mmo subscription for an entire month (24/7 access for ~30 days ) is equivalent to going to the movies once per month (~2 hours for 1 day).  What's a better return on investment: 2 hours of entertainment for 15 dollars or ~720 hours of entertainment for 15 dollars?  Some people may find more value in the 2 hour movie than the "grinding".  *shrug*

Did you know something like 30-40% of MMO fees is profit after cost? (PCGamer) Thats why it only takes a year or less to pay developement cost. (unless its a total sh*t game like most of them released this past year) Very very few products have that sort of profit margin. Very few. Thats why everyone is trying to jump on the MMO bandwagon. Most of them could give a rats as* about the quality of the game, its all about the subscription fees.

I think you're being very generous to the publishers and I'd really like to see a citation on this -- development costs have seriously ballooned and while the mmorpg subscriber market has expanded, there's only one 800 lb gorilla in it.

Aight Dawg here's your link: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/memberships/?WT.svl=nav

On the website it specifically states Access massively multiplayer games!

Unfortuanately, you are correct about "perfect dark zero" they classify that as a "trueskill matchmaking experience" and like you said that requires maintenance, work, etc.  and therefore is only for Xbox Live Gold.  I did find out directly from microsoft that you can pay more for Xbox Live Gold, but that would mean you get an extra game, mic, vision camera, extra arcade games, or some added bonus for spending the extra cash.  After that initial purchase, xbox live gold will naturally renew on your credit card for $49.99 a year.  If you were charged more than $50 without any extra bonuses, then you need to contact microsoft for a refund, or the company that sold you the xbox live package.

Thanks man, that clears some things up. "Trueskill matchmaking experience" heh not that game, but whatever they want to tell themselves. Maybe I did get some kind of microsoft points or something I don't remember, I was just ruffling through the credit card statements and found it charged at $99.99. As for trying to get a refund, heh they wouldn't even fix my first system that died due to overheating, tried to charge me $114 something dollars to get it fixed I told them they could keep the piece of of shit, this was back when the refund policy was only 3 months and it died a couple days after the 3 month policy(of coarse). Lucky the company I worked for at the time bought me a new 360 as a perc, so I was set again. Thanks again for the info now I know I don't have to keep gold if I want to just play mmo's.

I went back and added a poll so that people could vote on the cost of AoC.  It's on the first page, but I don't know how to copy it to the four page, anyhow ... please vote on subscription price!
