I agree of the first generation mmorpgs UO was a great game for solo play. Played for years and loved that game, just sorta burned out on it.

DAoC necros can solo (or could when i last played 6 months ago)

I soloed mine to 48.5 in a very short time and using the co op server was able to explore the whole land. I actually enjoyed myself doing that until RL issues made me re assess games in general :/

Monks in eq used to be fun solo until nerf batage hit em. :(

"Solo friendly" does NOT mean you have to solo 100% of the time.  Solo friendly means youre ABLE to solo.   Solo oriented would mean you solo 100% of the time.

No, but solo friendly mean that every edge for a soloer is best acquired soloing, not doing anything but soloing.

EQ is barely *bearing* the soloing, they are, by no mean, solo friendly!

Solo friendly mean solo should be the best road for solo uberness, and by FAR!

Anarchy Online: Engineer, Martial Artist or Bureaucrat

    Final Fantasy: Beast Master

Only two games I spent more than six months in, sorry image

I'm not going down there. Do you know what those things can do? Suck the paint off of your house and give your family a permanent orange afro.

Ramadin, at first stop trying to convince everyone around you that EQ is th best game. We had this discussion before and i don't know what's wrong with you man, if you love the game, no problem, love it but don't say people around you that EQ is something special - it's not anything you cannot do in any other game. In fact EQ is far away from being player-friendly game. Definetely it's not solo-friendly game. It is the worst game for soloers outhere.

Horizons and SWG are good solo games (at least i play solo in SWG and it works

I've been to many places, i've seen so many faces...

Whoever claims there is one good solo game, obviously only play one game. Almost every MMORPG has a good solo class/profession, otherwise no one would be playing that game. The only reason they have a solo class/profession, so the people that prefer to play alone have a chance in any game.

Lol DAoC...I remember my champion could maybe solo oranges at lvl 38, but my brother had a Bezerker that at lvl 35 soloed low purples. It was just sick and i called him a dirty liar till he showed me it himself. The damage that little bear put out was disgusting.

The best fun I had soloing was in AO with a martial artist. I pretty much soled him to 110 with a group here and there every once in a while. I remember one time I had a five minute fight with a boss mob and self buffed never got below 1/4 life (semi-tank + good damage+ healing abilities= easy solo play).

Anarchy Online was the most solo-friendly game I played. However, bare in mind, most online games have at least one class "more" geared towards solo play. The reason I found AO more solo friendly was the combination of choosing one of the available solo friendly classes AND instanced missions. AO really made it possible to log in for an hour or two (particularly a low and mid levels) and complete a mission, get some new loot and feel like you advanced your character at least somewhat.

However, ultimately, opinions are like ________ ... and everyone is going to have one on this topic. ::::06::

I think that EQII, WoW, and UXO are going to be a lot alike.  I have a feeling that EQII will be a masterful solo-player game.

WTF?  I never said anywhere on here that EQ is the best game.  I said its solo friendly, and it is.  If you suck at soloing and call it non solo friendly, thats your own problem.  I can solo just fine, maybe I cant get the best gear in the game soloing, but that has nothing to do with being ABLE to solo.  The original poster asked "best MMORPG for solo PLAY" not "solo gear aquirement".  Pay attention people.

I played a martial artist in Anarchy Online, I think I was solo about 50-70% of the time due to playing at unsocial hours. I played a Albian Friar in DAoC who was very easy to solo due to good damage and self healing. I was also invited to many groups due to my healing skill.

I am just about to cancel my Horizons account , due to lack of crafting storage and combat lag. The players seem to be mostly solo due to the poor +10% group bonus and the pathetic loot drops. The game is good for soloing up to about level 35 but the grind gets very boring quick after that. You may have to join a guild to find a crafter to make you weapons and armour but most of the fighting is solo. There is no PVP in Horizons so all the fighting is against mobs. Avoid playing a archer till they " fix" the last nerf.

I am waiting for UOX and Dragon Empires which should be out Sept/Oct ( fingers crossed ) both these games look interesting and should be good for some solo play.

Depends on what you mean by best, and what type of play style you like.

Do you want to be 100% self sufficient? i.e. make your own armour/weapons and fight etc... Or use the community as and when needed?

If you like crafting then StarWars Galaxies is pretty amazing, and the vast majority of components/foods/weapons/armour etc can be made solo. And even if you want to go down one of the combat professions I've never had a problem solo'ing. I've not found an MMORPG that has such flexibility in it's profession/leveling system.

I've also had great fun solo'ing in Final Fantasy XI - but the higher you get the less you can solo. And whilst I haven't hit it yet I hear that after a certain level it's impossible to solo.

Anarchy Online seemed to allow me to solo as much as I wanted, but I only played it for a month or so.

Can't comment on the main faves of this thread, EQ and DAoC - I couldn't get on with EQ so cancelled after a couple of weeks - my loss I suppose, as a few hundred thousand odd players can't all be wrong! image

i admit ac2 was fun at lower levels...i soloed my enchanter to level 37 or 39 (cannot remember) and it got pretty hard...some quests i had to forget what were impossible to solo

no one cant solo AC2 at higher levels...major quests has group boss mobs where even full group having hard time...you may solo to level 40 but after that you dont get exp anymore and there is no quests to do for soloers.
