I got a chance to see the character models recently for Vanguard and, I just don't like them.  They just don't add anything inspiring.  Besides the small heads in proportion to the body, like that old Sega game, Altered Beast, it looks like any other game.  However, thats the extent of my knowledge.  The gameplay could be ok.

Go with VG not becuase it better or wrose than EQ2 but becuase its new.

Make a toon on EQ2 and you'll be playing with elite guys that have seen and done it all.

Make a Toon on VG and every 1 is new, finding a group will be easier because more people will be looking for groups also.

As to depth I dont know, I found the game hard to click with when I tried beta upto lvl 8, didn't get a sence why I was there.. but thats me.

I am thinking that Vanguard will be a bit more detailed then EQ2 Mostly because it has a political system and persistant housing (you build it and it is a structure in the world for all to see).  Now I do have a concern about the combat system because it might lead to a "perfect group' stigma causing some classes to be left out.

EQ2 is an established game with established fanbase. The character models are a bit cartoonish. You can try a free trial actually!

VG is brand new, has and will have a bunch of bugs at start. char models are less cartoonish, I like most of them better actually. Combat style, well, it's a matter of taste. And you got diplomacy, something new to MMOs.

Both need good machines to enjoy.

So I'd say: test the EQ2 trial, and if you like it, go for that, do VG in 6 months from now - unless you want to buy both and get a Station Account (that's what I have :D )

EQ2 simply because it already has more than 2 years worth of added content to it and from what ive heard from V:soh players/testers is that it just isn't even close to what i set out to be.. lacking tons of content and much more.
http://neocron-game.com/ - now totally F2P no cash-shops or micro transactions at all.

    Absolutely untrue.

Even with 2 years of 'added content', Vanguard already has more variety, more space, and more content than EQ2 does. It's like comparing chess to Candyland.

If you want something to entertain you for more than a couple months, or someplace you can't run from one end to the other in under 20 minutes, get Vanguard. If you want an 'easy mode' game that will bore you to tears within 2 weeks, get EQ2.

lol, BS. Anyways, to the OP - did you post this in the Vanguard forums too? Because posting just here isn't going to give you realistic results. And ultimitely, no one can really tell you which is "better." That can only be decided by you, as you are the only one that really knows exactly what you like/want.

This is a bit bios to put a eq2 v vanguard poll in the eq2 forum. I used to play eq2 up to the dof expantion. Im play vg now. I prefer vg by miles. It's alot like eq2 but just a bit less hand holding.

I love both games but i just got bored with eq2.

  • TheICETheICE Member UncommonPosts: 120

Yea if you want a game where combat takes 5 mins then pick vg, otherwise i would pick eq2. Eq2 is a way better game than vg, and combat does look like that video so don't deny.

I would say go with EQ II since it has been beta tested for over 2 years and currently its the best it's ever been. So you wont have that pay for playing beta feeling like you would if you subscribed to Vanguard.

So many people talk out of their ***.  TBH, I really like Vanguard.  I played EQII off and on and got bored w/it real quick.  Same w/ WoW.  Vanguard so far has kept my intrest and I look forward to the times that I can play it.  Sure, it's new and has some bugs, but no game starts off perfect and in no need of a touch up.  I look forward to the way this game will progress.  Combat lasting 5mins?  Ha!  a few secs at the most.

I don't have an active subscription with EQ2 right now.   But I may after tomorrow.   Still using my Pre Order code with VG.  Diplomacy is really nothing more than a very limited MTG card game but just political cards that call on 4 different color dots on the board.

I have a feeling I'll be re-subbing to EQ2 and buying the Fae expansion.  Im getting bored of VG and It's only day 3.

I have tryed VG and even if I didnt get much deep into it, it seems as not ready game yet... try EQ2 for some time and if u dont like it, go for VG.
Personaly I love EQ2, it have everything what good MMORPG should have (nothing more, but in perfect quality)! And you can see progress for better and better game...

TIP: EoF all in one pack is good opportunity to start!

Go with eq2, vanguard is not a finish game. It has so many bugs that it gets annoying after a day or 2.
  • FlemFlem Member UncommonPosts: 2,870

Pretty much ANY new mmorpg is shithouse when it first comes out, bugs and crap piss a lot of people off in the early days.

I will reserve judgement on Vanguard until a couple months in, before that im sticking with EQ2 then i will upgrade my account to the station pass thing so i can play them both.

  • roadwarriorsroadwarriors Member Posts: 218

Vangaurd isn't a very good game. That's a fact. The game isn't ready. An incomplete game si worse than a complete one no matter what. Even fanobois will agree the game needs six months to even be at par. Seriously don't support the business model that will allow brad to by a bmw for his 16 year old son at your expense.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uExFlcLsedA&mode=related&search=

Look at the combat.. There is no button smashing because every move takes like 6 seconds to execute. You push button, wait six seconds move push button wait 6 seconds. Before you know it one fight takes 20 minutes. 200 kills per level = brad one rich dude.

Also notice how the skills are on a timer like wow.  An the interface has been copied and pasted. Obviously Brad is scamming the public.

Just because you enjoy a game doens't make it good. A good game by defintion is a game that relatively better than the rest. VG is not a good game because in an industry where games are complete, i.e. actually a game and not a prototype....

Wait your right....It is my opinion

because vg is a prototype not a game.

  • mbbladembblade Member Posts: 747

seeing how EQ2 is the apitomy of crap with all its flaws and what not i would say Vanguard is much better. I have played them both and i would say that Vanguard is much better. Seeing how i wouldn't play EQ2 even if i was getting paid a healthy salray to play it you can't go by meh.

  • roadwarriorsroadwarriors Member Posts: 218

mmbblade works for sony. Don't trust him.

most people posting here or voting here for vangaurd are either working for sony or on their payroll. Simple as that.

This game 8.4? Are you kidding me?

  • CelestianCelestian Member UncommonPosts: 1,136

EQ2 is more "fun" based. VG is more "work" based.

VG=Corpse runs, long travel times and no instances...

EQ2 has no corpse runs, trivial travel times for the most part and instances that keeps you from having to fight with other people for mobs, named and what not.

The animations in EQ2 are far far more advanced than VG. VG looks like you hacking at a tree when you are fighting.

I thought the no zoning thing in VG was going to be nice but instead of a "Loading..." message you just get a massive burst of lag as you transition between the zones.

VG is EQ1 with a paint job and a few new features, I'd say it was EQ1.5. EQ2 on the other hand is much more different than it's original.

However, you can just get a all access pass and play either.

  • GeekyGeeky Member UncommonPosts: 451
Just subscribe to Station Access and then you can play both games. Along with all the other games offered by SoE.  All you have to do is buy the box.
  • AeronisAeronis Member Posts: 231
You can play both if you get a Station pass, for $25 a month.

They are both good games but with different strengths.
