MMO FREE Trial vs Not Free Trial

Now..   I will keep this short and simple, and see what the rest of the public views on it.

 

 

Why the heck would I spend 50 dollars on a game, only to get PO'ed by how it plays, and realizing that since its an MMO and pay to play, I cant return the game and get my money back?

 

Why the hell would anyone spend 50 bucks and then 14 bucks (Higher or lower depending) per month, only to realize that after the first, second, or third month they realize the game wasnt what they wanted.

 

 

 

 

Whatever happened to Free Downloadeable Live Content Trials?!?

 

 

Yeah.. Im interested in many games out right now.. But I WILL NOT spend 50 bucks to 'test it' knowing full well I will never get my money back, and I have a 70% chance of not wanting to pay per month to play it anyway.

 

 

 

Whats everyone else's views on this?  Im thinking if a game is going to be pay to play, they sure as heck better let you try it out for an 'extended' amount of time, perhaps a free month of play.. 7 days doesnt cut it.. that doesnt let you get anywhere in a game.

 

Throw some ideas around..   jsut sort of annoys me how thigns have befallen to us.. If Im gongi to work my rear end off getting money from a job, only to spend a good portion of my free money on a game Ill never be able to play after the first month.

From your name I would assume you are talking about WoW but as far as I know it has 30 days free?

Could you tell what game are you refering to or is it a secret?



But my thought on this is that every pay to play game should have a free trial of some sort. 30 days free for game box might be enough but would be nice to be able to just download and try it for free. If it's totally free 7 days would do it. 14 would be wonderful.

I like the idea of a offline trial, since then the servers wont be abused by everyone who just sign up and play one day. And the people who actually play it wont have to see the constant whine from people who don't like it.. since it is always someone who hate the game=)

Look at any of the new games being released, the only 'trial' you get is usually a free month after you ahve already bought the game.   Try to find any new game coming out with a full version downloadeable 100% free trial, I could name a couple, but they arent really worth the trouble.

 

 

It just gets halfway annoying sometimes, They want us to look at the box, go 'oo and ahh' because of the pictures and descriptions, only to find out that if your in the game, they usually havent implemented everyhing like it appears :-)

 

 

 

EDIT:   THis is the main reason I have been so darn reluctant to buy any MMO type games recently, the P2P rates are skyrocketing.. whatever happened to the origional days of 7.99 a month (UO) and Everquest and such...    several games have already hit the 14.99 mark o.O

It seems to me that most games do have free trials. None that I can think of launch with them, because they have to sell boxes to recoup development costs. Give the average MMO 6 months, though, and you'll see a free trial of some sort. Anarchy Online? Free trial. Asheron's Call? Free trial. Auto Assault? Free trial. City of Heroes/Villains? Free trials. D&D Online? Free trial. Work your way down the list on the left and you'll be hard-pressed to find a game without one. Will Vanguard or Lord of the Rings Online have one at launch? Not a chance. Will they have one a few months after launch? I'd bet my entertainment budget on it.

 I would just like to inform you that you are able to buy a 2. 50$ trial at gamestop ea ext. You ware able to download it on to your comp and play regular game for 14 days. You cant trade with anyone however and i think you are unable to take that char to acual game but its still a free trial

Linage 2 however you are unable to use a trial i think and that sucks. (if there is a trial plz i beg you tell me i want to test it.)

Most of the MMOs I've ever played have had a trial.



And yes, I do miss the good memories of $9.99 a month for EQ, or even

lower rates for the higher months.

Not to rain on your parade of ... misinformedness but several mmo's have free trials you can download from fileplanet.  Most won't let you off newbie island or hold more than a certain amount of money or even trade with other players.    Some games honestly their client is so huge you could be downloading it for nearly 24 hours depending on your connection those most likely will not at launch offer a downloadable free trial.  If you've played the game past the 30 days and you still haven't decided you like it or not...maybe there's just something wrong with you.

Alot of them also include a free months worth of play (not that i would call it free..after you just paid for it) so really it's similar to buying an single player game, most of which you don't even get a months worth of play out of and similar to MMORPG's in that the full version usually ship to stores BEFORE a demo/trial is released.



So meh, I wish they all came with free trials when they are released but unfortunately that's not always best on the developers pockets. That's why doing research by using mmorpg.com, youtube and google are imperative before making a decision IMO.
