Thread Nazi's will ruin game...

As I read and re-read many a posts here and elsewhere I have the strong feeling that the game will not be very much fun for most or at least those that are just looking for plain entertainment from it. As a RevWar / F&I War reenactor I know the sad truth that holding to the "facts" will not always make it fun or entertaining to the participants or the spectators and in LOTR-Online we are both particitants AND spectators. This game will be so boring if we are restrained by only what are facts that have taken place in the book or worse...restrained on what we can do by the Thread Nazi's, "you can't do THAT here as it never happened  in the books. I mean sure, it suggested it  COULD be done in Book II page 136 paragraph 4 line 3 but it was never really stated. So please refrain from sitting under that willow tree."  Anyway, I do hope the game survives a long life and perhaps the sooner the hardcore Tolkien fans get frustrated and move on the better for the gaming experience in general. Many facts need to be adhered to lets just not get carried away here. Nuff said.

Take your shots at those who enjoy keeping with the lore all you want, just know you are aiming your reenactor cannons in the wrong direction. The entity that is monitoring the game and keeping it to the books (the game was not patterned from the movies despite all the ill-informed comments saying so; verification of this can be found on the official forums) is the group that owns the Tolkien license, who are very protective of keeping the lore correct. Because of that fact it may appear to many that the "lore hounds" fans are getting their way because of their activity when in fact they just share the same stance as the group that owns the LOTR license and are working with Turbine in the production of this game.

Constraints can actually inspire creativity. Mother of invention and all that...

I rather prefer that they stay close to lore. Why? Because listening to opinions such as the OP, we'd simply have another generic Fantasy MMO with wizards and sorcerers, dragon riders, and druids with wolf form. While those things can be fun, I find them overused and cliche.

The ingame community does not reflect the thread nazi's.

Ingame community is a lot nicer.

This game is for people who love PvE,MASSquesting and with a twitch of daocstyle PvP battlegrounds.

I think the reason why some people are disappointed is because they transfered all their experiences from the books and movies into this game and off course no game can live up to that.

When cleaned up a bit and if adding certain features this could be a major title.

I follow LotRO pretty closely, and the people who badmouth the game (usually without having played it or even learned much about it) are typically hardcore gamers, d00dz, or pvp-types. Which is probably many if not most of the people here on mmorpg.com.

Its relatively rare that you see Tolkien fans badmouthing the game. Many have comments or concerns or suggestions, but few just write the game off as a failure and not worth playing.

I see a lot of posts on here about how Tolkien fanbois will insist on this or that and 'ruin the game', but that just isnt realistic or accurate.

    Elladan - ESO (AD)
    Camring - SWTOR (Ebon Hawk)
Eol & Justinian - Rift (Faeblight)
Ceol and Duri - LotRO (Landroval)
    Kili - WoW
    Eol - Lineage 2
    Camring - SWG
    Justinian (Nimue), Camring - DAoC

I totally agree with you here. Every bad-mouthing person on these forums is a hard-core MMOer who loves to grind, grind, grind away their time doing nothing but creature humping and thumping. MMOs are not all about smacking down creatures and getting that uberweapon and supershield.

    Currently: Playing EVE Online
Previous: FFXI, Dragonrealms, sad little stint in WOWland.
Awaiting: Fallen Earth, Hero''s Journey, Tabula Rasa, Age of Conan.
