Cleric, Blood Mage, or Shaman: Help me Choose please

Hello,

I need help deciding which class is best for me and funnest. I want to be able to heal efficiently if needed but also want to contribute a lot in battles and PvP. I was wondering for all those that know, which is the best class for a balanced mix between powerful melee/spell attacks and above average healing. Thank you.

Well, the only real way to tell is to try the classes yourself.

Cleric is healing with some melee thrown in.

Blood Mage is all about the lifetaps and health transfers/draining

Shaman is healing plus buffs, debuffs, and dots.

I've never actually played any of those classes myself, but that's what I see them to sorta be.

i am going with  a cleric. it was eather a clr or a shaman.  i know this is not helpful. just think clr is a good class to play
  • I'm going with Blood mage. I haven't played it yet but I have reseached all the healers and BL seems right for me. Bl's have the ability to steal health from an enemy and return 130% to heal itself.

    Just my take=:)

I started a Shaman, found it quite ok to solo so far (lvl 12) - but I am a bit worried about my future in group play. So far I havent seen any group-heals, which raises the question of the exact of role of the shaman in a raid group. Any opinions?

group heals don't show up until level 16. The cast speed buff that shaman have is the only one of it's kind in the game, trust me you'll be wanted in groups.

Using groups heals, however, is generally a REALLY bad idea as aggro is huge on them. Any experienced healer from pretty well any MMO will tell you that single target is the best for efficiency and hate. Shaman get some really cool heals with shields and stuff built in.

Well, I've played healing classes in DAOC, EQ2 and DnDO - so I defenitly agree on the group heal part ;) Sometimes its necessary tho to get out a lot of heals in a short time.

So far I find the group-window of the Vanguard UI a bit lacking, but as I understand it there are already custom UIs available. I'll have to look into that, I guess.

But I guess you are right about the cast speed buff, that is really a nice spell :)

I <3 my Blood Mage.   I have played a bit with a Shaman but think the Blood Mage is a bit cooler.   I love grafts and lifetaps.

It also depends on your style of play, your prefrence in the way you play.  Do you like to meelee or do you like healing others or casting spells from afar?  You do like using sneaking around like a Rogue?

By the way though as much as I love Blood Mages, I think most likely a Disciple is what you are looking for as they are the most melee centric of the healers.   BTW all healing classes are supposed to be almost equally balanced as far as overall healing abilities go.

I guess in other ways im looking for a great healer so when im with my friends I can play the "healer" role and when I go to pvp I can still do great damage and be able to hold my own.

During the beta, I got to try different classes and from my personnal view. Blood Mage is amazing :)

Compared to the other healers, BM offers a completely different style of play but it requires alot of practice and strategy. Some skills are more powerfull when you have 4 points of blood union while others won't be as effective. You have to learn when to use your skills, while this is true for every class, BM does not forgive important mistakes.

    enjoy :)
