You are like I am in this perspective. If its the matter of time that plays the major role in your decision, then Id suggest GW Nightfall, Vanguard, EQ2, CoH/CoV  (fairly casual and does not require a lot of  continues gametime investment at low to mid levels)

    - Group or solo really doesn't matter. I will group if need be and if it's required, I try to get into either a big guild / outfit / organization and make friends. New people over and over gets old.

Most MMORPGs fall under this criteria, so ill probably recommend 2 of my favourite ones - GW and Vanguard

    - PvE, Raiding, PvP, Socializing, Questing, Crafting, Housing, Harvesting

Vanguard, EQ2, DAOC (in that order)

Vanduard for outstanding PvE (only low levels so far, cant recommend high levels but I HEAR they are just as good), decent questing, great (!!) crafting/harvesting and meaningfull diplomacy  and good socializing. This game is new though so everything is fairly unrefined (means may change for better or worse)

EQ2 for PvE and raiding (I love hoq EQ2 emphasizes group combat, if you are good your group will rock, if not  - well, you can always solo heh), decent questing, good crafting (used to be too complex but I heard it changed a lot, might wanna ask EQ2 guru about this) nad good harvesting.

DAOC for great PvE(a bit grinding for my personal taste but might be good enough for you), decent raiding, great PvP (one of the best!), decent socializing.

    - I really like space-games lately. But I can go with any genre, really if the story is good and thought out.

    - If there is content waiting for me at the end of a grind, it's time well spent. Like in WoW, new 60's have a ton of stuff to do, but it doesn't hold up for long. RFOnline had little to nothing after grinding rather than stomping people's faces in.

Space-games are rare these days. If fantasy world is no probs and you worry about highend content (reaching top level realy fast and then burning out on the grind) then id recommend a game that is slightly  hardcore, not EQ1 hardcore, but perhaps EQ2/Vanguard hardcore. It takes some time to reach the top and the road there is fairly mixed with hunting and questing to not hit you with a big bad grinding bat.

Thanks for the questionnaire, jimmy. :)

Too all the EVE guys: I really have actually thought about returning to it since the clan I'm in has recently shown light interest in it. Just a couple of guys, though. Anyways, I just feel the game would take a lot of time that I don't have left. After all, I really only have 5 months left in me. EVE will probably be there after college, but who knows. If I can come back to it and still be decently-placed in the field of players, it'd be worth it.

Do you guys think I could take some time off from EVE and be able to pick it right back up again? Not saying all the knowledge I need to retain, but rather...will the game extend past me and eventually I'd be pushed back to the beginning?
If you did not throw Eve off your to-play list then Id also recommend it. It can be realy hard for a noob to get by, you can lose everything you worked for in a split second. I played for 2 months in a row and almost died becuase of a pirate attack. If i were to die id lose everything I earned in 2 months, id probably have to start all over with the starter ship. Now if the pirate few posts above would of been nicer in his expressions, then he could of said something like this "Well, thats risk/reward for ya, you loose you snooze". Theres a certain logic to that, no doubt. But from a noob perspective, im being restricted from more then half of the content ( below  0.5 sec systems ) because  im not competent enough in PvP. There is no way to truly train yourself in PvP unless you are in a big corp and backed up financialy or you are financialy rich. Noobs have realy tough time in Eve. Its essencial you join a very powerfull corp (which is hard to do being a noob). Otherwise youd be "stuck" in safe zone mining omber at best.

Eve is a great game, but its a bit too hardcore for my personal taste.

PS: you mentioned somewhere that you are having probs with loading time in Battlefield. Could you post your PC specs plz, becuase some of the games I recommended are very hardware-hungry.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

The decision to commission or not has not been made yet. I plan to go through a couple months of Marine ROTC, and then make an educated choice after experiencing it and FX's. I was thinking of playing said games during holiday breaks and such while I'm at home. I'll probably be deployed soon after getting out of training in the Marines or in the case of government work: not too much free time. After college, I don't plan on having a too in-depth gaming career, really.

Isnt EVE Online skill system time based? Why dont you log in for a few minutes everyday just to click on skills to learn. That way you dont waste your time and when you come back, you have newly learnt skills.

You can give Vanguard a try since it's coming out next week (according to gamefaqs anyway)

Oh dear... try to have a little more backbone than a 3 year old...

Did you speak to anyone after you were podded?  Did you actually speak to anyone before you got podded?  Did you understand why you got podded?

If you gave up that easily after saying you were 'really into it' then I'd advise not playing Eve again.  Oh yeah, and don't bother going to Military College because with that amount of determination I don't think you'll make it... Dont be a jack because someone doesnt like to PvP like u do. So he got blasted for no reason, he got pissed, I was too when I got blasted. There is not much fun in jumping into a system, seing a bunch of red guys locking onto you, trying to right click somewhere on the screen to pull up a list of objects I could warp to (hard to do with shaky hands) and praying my lock goes faster then theirs. I played Eve for severals months in total, and I didnt PvP once there - I dont like PvP in Eve, its way too complex. I liked the trading and crafting. I had a few close calls but those were acceptable risks. I quit becuase of time issues, becuase I wasnt gonna risk all my fortunes trying to mine in low sec space (I didnt seem to fit recruiting profile for any major corp) and becuase people had attitude like you - if you dont like it, eat it.  Pirates like you give bad rep to Eve community. Picking up noobs who cant even lock onto you and then boasting "Go back to WoW, carebare noob" is just an expression of your own noobishness (if such word exist).

You sir are a pirate, in real life.

Okay.  A couple of apologies.  Firstly for being so late in replying to you Jimmy, and secondly for not making myself clear in what I was trying to get across AND adding in the unnecessary 'don't bother going to college' bit.  Guess I was in a bad mood that day...

Jimmy, I'm not a pirate.  Like you, I enjoy the trading & manufacturing aspects of Eve, and I also don't enjoy getting blown up & losing all my goods.  My point was however, that the OP seemed to give up way too easily on  a game that he himself said he was 'really into'.  My questions were to try and find out if he died because he did something stupid or if he did something where he didn't know any better because he was new.

He was asking for advice on which game to try & the impression he gave was of someone who couldn't hack it when things went badly.  I apologise if that isn't the case, but that was the impression I was given, in which case he will NOT like Eve.  It hurts.

To the OP:  good luck with whatever game you go for.  If however, you do take the setbacks you experience in Eve as lessons and all part of the game, then please come back and try it again- we'd love to have you with us!
