Microsoft COULD sue SoE/Sigil

AnofalyeAnofalye Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 7,433

Hiya!

Now that the game hit the shelves, it doesn't feel wrong nor dirty to even talk about it.  But, didn't you feel that it was a scheme from the start?  I always wonder if Sigil didn't plan on ditching as much funds as possible from a competitor (Microsoft here), make sure they abandon them in the route, then release with Sony, since after all, he cames from Sony and got back to Sony.  It look like a LoS planning, with real objectives and money in here.  I wouldn't feel it wrong to see a giant fighting another giant, we are not talking about a small company been bullied, we are talking about Microsoft squarring with Sony.  Anyway, just a though.  But if Microsoft doesn't get a % of all revenues equals to it investments, no matter what was signed or agreed, I would say they where victims of planned machinations by their competitor, and they have solid grounds to consider sueing...of course agreeing out of court is always better, but they invest X%, they deserve X% of any income from the game!  They could be nice with a small company, but it isn't a small company, but they arch-nemesis Sony!

EDIT:

- Did Microsoft get a FULL refund?

- Did Microsoft get a % of Vanguard income?

If you answer no to both, I am pretty sure they would win should they sue.

To hell with one of the worlds worst companies, SOE. Gaming wise that is.

I wish them anything bad. Anything.

They got released from the contract. Paid out and both sides agreed on it in good health. Where the heck do you see a lawsuit? That's just far out.

Let alone for the evidences needed if any. I don't wish $OE any good but seriously that sounds like a not on facts based conspiracy theory. There won't be any lawsuit. Welcome to the real world.

Well, agreements are null and void when a side was victims of machinations.  I don't say it is the case, nobody here have the slightest idea unless we are insiders, which I am not.

I just say, it is not much of a stretch to see that happening...or not.  There are many laws to protect "victims".

BUT .... would X% of VG revenue cover the lawyer cost involved in sueing? That's the real question...

You know, I heard that the moon landings of the 60's and 70's were all fake, and that we need to be afraid of those black helicopters that we see flying around....

But you are right...Microsoft could sue....and I'm sure they would if they thought they were really harmed.....

It's too bad matters of court don't look on what you think isn't it?  If anything was signed, it will be used in court.  If nothing was signed, microsoft could get what they put into the game.  Not a %.  The exact number.

LOL!  What's the matter Anofalye?  Trying to hedge your bets?

Weren't you part of the crowd that said Microsoft "dumped" Vanguard?  So, what's all this ranting about how Microsoft got screwed?  I thought it was all Microsoft's decision, and that Vanguard has to go crawling to Sony?  Hmm....

I thought that any game that includes raiding is doomed to failure?  So, why the concern for any profits to be made?  I thought you were saying a few months ago that Vanguard would be lucky to last 6 months.  Hmm...

So, why would Microsoft be upset about dumping Vanguard now?  Has Vanguard added that Non-Raiding server you were so adamant about?  No?  Then what is your point exactly?  Oh, and didn't you state at least once already that you were done with this forum?  Hmm....

Oh that's right, you want to try another tactic since your first tactic didn't work.

Heh, well good luck with that.  I always enjoy the laughs.

I'm going to have to agree with Abolith and many of the others here.

The OP should just unplug his computer.  Make sure you disconnect

    your internet connection also.

Of all the pointless, mindless, worthless threads in all the forums in all the world, you

had to put this one here...

Really.  Disconnect.  Go play Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, if you have to play at all, it

really should be a single-player game.

The deal as i understood it has sigil buying back the dev cost that microsoft shelled out.The exact nature of the deal i dont belive was released .So it could be at the cost of future profits from sigil.

Or The Brad hit up The Smed for some front cash.Tho this means its not quite the Verant thing all over again but almost. The buy back portion tho could have been added to the dev cost numbers to make it look more costly for hype than it did.

Yup whole thing from distance looks um intresting.Ya MS could an will sue odds are if theirs a breach in the contract.

I fail to understand the logic...

MS wanted to get out of the vanguard bussiness because it was a bad game. There is no other way to say this. Microsoft has pulled out of projects like

True Fantasy Online, Mythica and there are more but i can not remember. We can honestly say that both those two quoted games had far more polish and were much further along then Vanguard...

The way i see it is. MS got out of a bad game, SOE got into it so now, they can add it to there already 1010101010101 bad games in there station pass...

1st:  Microsoft try to cut it lost, they bail, which is a good move.  They still have a right to try to recoup any cost the game has for them.

2nd: I always said 50k subscribers, which is a failure for a game of that scope IMO.  But 50k subscribers, this would be worth sueing to help the first point balance better and recoup more.

With raid-free servers, Vanguard would have triple the size it will gain, if not even more.  I still stand by my arguments.

I completely agree, I joined Vanguard at beta 3 just after Microsoft sold the game to Sigil.

I can understand why Microsoft thought the game was a load of crap, it was but then its a completely different animal back then. Seriously this game is very different, if they had launched last year, this game would have been a serious flop and even I would be telling people on this forum to avoid it, I am glad its otherwise.

Thankfully they brought back the rights to the game so they had complete control and got SOE to cough up cash to publish the game so they could make the game into what it is today.

Its all legal and done by very skilled lawyers, can't ever see any court case.
