Personally, my favorite Guild Wars is Prophicies, just because the starting place is really awesome and the Prophicies people look the coolest, what's your favorite one?
Mine would have to be Prophecies. Problem being though, I like the professions/characters from Factions and Nightfall better. So technically, they all work together to form a great game. As for quests, storyline, and missions, however, it's Prophecies by far.
I hear alot of people saying that factions campaign is the worst, but i think its the best one(still haven't tried nightfall though >_<) anyway one thing thats annoying with factions is that you're already around lvl18 when you leave "newbie island"
Nightfall is my favorite. It is just beautiful. The expansion also added a lot of cool new ideas to the game. I have a Dervish and just love the profession.
I agree that Nightfall is the best, although I feel that it is really hard for a new character. I enjoyed it because I traveled there with my lvl20s and can mostly hold my own with them; my new characters are rotting because it's such an uphill battle with me and my lowlevel heroes. [i typically play solo, i'm not big on groups, so i have to be able to beat areas without 7 of my closest lvl20 friends along]. So, it ends up with the same problem - unless you get someone to ferry you (ie do the work for you) off the noob island, you'll be at least level 17 or 18 before you can beat the mission that gets you to the top continent -- and the rest of the game content.
I like the african/arabian style graphics, the music, the storyline and having heroes! Plus, dervishes kick butt "really super a lot".
I have not enjoyed factions much at all. The plague area is unpleasant, similar to the ascalon area in Prophecies - I just don't like that type of thing - and I hate the way the tenements are so high and close together so that it messes up the camera view. The mobs kick my butt and so after two evenings of playing and not getting out of the plague area, I was sick of it. The noob island is pretty. On the one hand, I hate being able to click on the noob trainers/questgivers and have them say "f you, you're not canthan!"
On the other hand, the one drawback of Nightfall is that it can be hard to figure out what you're supposed to do next if you have a Prophecies character who traveled there, because you can't get all the quests that a native elonian character can get. I have leaned heavily on guildwiki to tell me what i have to do next, once i have completely emptied out my quest log and don't see anyone with an exclamation point in any of the cities.
About prophecies... hm. I think it is great; definitely a close call between it and Nightfall; just my personal style preference leads me to like the graphics and things found in Nightfall better.... plus I LOVE having my heroes along. I love being able to control heroes.
I would say, if you're a longtime player, i'd recommend Nightfall. If you're new to mmo's, start with prophecies and then once you feel like you're good at it and want to add challenges, then get nightfall too.
i would so have to go with factions being my fav because of the awsome new races and the new ideas the put into it. the story wasnt as good as nightfall, but overall i found it to be much more enjoyable
The newbie experience is very smooth in Prophecies, and I like that. I love the starting area, both pre-searing ascalon and post-searing. Factions has the worst newbie area ever. Nightfall is good, but of course one cant expect it to be as good as the prophecies starting area because prophecies is the first and the others need to cater to players with characters who are already level 20 and are moving to the new continent.
I agree that factions is 'the worst', but that is pretty much concerning the PvE, not the PvP aspects of this campaign. The alliance battles (pvp) are fun, and it is not the new classes that detract from Factions, but the cooperative missions. The 16 player cooperative missions werent executed very well, IMO. The PvE gameplay relies heavily on tonsss of weak enemies (the afflicited) being thrown at players, who have no time or reason to strategize and instead simply spam spells at the mobs. In Factions all missions give bonuses for being completed quickly, leading players to rush through the missions as fast as possible- Sometimes getting the group killed, and always detracting from the enjoyability of the mission. The story line was poor, too many new characters were introduced, and the voice acting was absolutely terrible in Factions.
Nightfall is probably my favourite though, as far as the story line goes. The Hero Battles (the new PvP introduced in Nightfall) is really fun too! So I'd say Nightfall is my favourite. Prophecies will always be special because its the first of the Guild Wars campaigns, and its newbie area is the largest, making it best fit for new players.
i'll have to say that Prophecies is the best, it's the one i have enjoyed the most, i love the story in prophecies and pre-searing is pretty good, also i have enjoyed prophecies more than the other two.
I liked Factions, but the PvE of factions was a disapointment, NF had better PvE though.
Prophecious , This game just has it all, so big, lots of quests, beutifull world, great storyline, it just has everything!.
Second place is Factions, might seem a bit rushed, but actually pretty good.
Nightfall last, Hero system has pretty much ruined it, and all u could see was 4 ore 8 over everyone's head, farming for sunspear points was so lame. This game made me quit.
so from what ive read prophecies would be the best run for my money ive nver played guid wars before but al ive heaard are good reviews any suggestions?
Prophicies is the best game in all aspects bar pvp, the story line is magnificent with great lands to explore and enemies to fight and the whole exprience of the game is phnomenal, it was even better before factions came out which changed the economy and way the game was played which i found spoilt it slightly
"...so from what ive read prophecies would be the best run for my money ive nver played guid wars before but al ive heaard are good reviews any suggestions?"
Yes. Get it.
Seriously, the game has virutally no grinding, has a very gentle learning curve in the "noob" area (pre-searing Ascalon), which is one of the most visually beautiful settings in any game I've seen or played (Shing Jea Island from Factions is a close second, IMHO).
The missions range from fairly easy to almost insanely challenging (end-game Titan quests), and move the story along very nicely. Plus, in Prophecies, you can earn skills by doing quests which is a feature that was removed in both Factions and Nightfall (you have to buy skills, which can get expensive pretty quickly for a new player just starting out).
I'd rate Factions as my second favorite release in the GW trilogy. I like the missions and there is virtually no grinding.
Finally, I'm really beginning to hate Nightfall. It's got almost zero replayability, it's got a hellacious, mind-numbingly boring grind to get Sunspear and Lightbringer ranks, and - to top it off - A-Net has just released yet another round of nerfs to what was once one of my favorite professions: Paragon, this time going after Command Paragons! (C'mon! Reducing "Incoming" from :04 to :01 - :03 seconds while keeping a :20 recharge time makes that elite skill even more worthless than it was!)
But I digress. For my money, Prophecies is still the best of the three.
Regarding "Incoming", here's why I suspect the change came down...
On a six-man PvP team, each one using Paragon as a secondary, they could keep a :04 "Incoming" up all the time, effectively reducing the damage they took by 50% indefinitely.
With Command at 12 aps (which is what my purely PvE Paragon runs with), now all you get fron "Incoming" is :02 every :20. This means that a six-man PvP */Paragon team (even with a Paragon primary running it at :03) can't keep it up more than :13 under the best conditions.
However, this is where I'm starting to get really fed up with A-Net: Nightfall was promoted as the big, new "PvE Chapter", and DoA is built exclusively around PvE - NOT PvP. However the changes that are being made to the exclusively Nightfall professions FOR THE SAKE OF PvP are rendering the skills and builds these professions need in DoA worthless!!! (Avatar of Grenth was reduced in duration, too. It's enchantment-removing capability was apparently too effective in PvP both for and against Dervishes). But DoA is PRECISELY where you have to play to get your last hero! "Incoming" was the last significant anti-spike skill left that could even hope to get a Paragon on a DoA team, and now that's been nerfed into virtual uselessness!
If A-Net keeps nerfing skills for the sake of PvP, they're going to have to nerf DoA proportionately to keep players even marginally competitive there.
The ever-growing gap between one's ability to participate in DoA versus one's capability to play and perform there is something A-Net is going to have to address. Until they do, Nightfall will remain my least favorite of the three chapters around. I already have 2 characters that can't finish the damn game because they can't get on teams there. Why the hell bother getting any others through this convoluted, nerf-ridden piece of crap?
If it weren't for the heroes, I wouldn't recommend Nightfall at all.

That'd be the only viable option. Unfortunately for PvE only players, PvP has absolute priority in terms of balance.
when i was playing Prophecies i played the game with passion... i loved it so much that when ever i was playing it i was in another zone, i felt like i was my char and every monster kill/every player kill was real, the reason i rate gw 10/10 is coz of this..
as soon as factions came out, boom i lost it, the feeling had gone and no matter how much i try and get that feeling again , i cant
once in a blue moon i get that feeling for like 10 seconds but nuthing longer, factions and nightfall killed gw

i dont agree , i do lile profecies , but factions and nightfall are awsome. the allience battles in factions and elite missions in nightfall for me is whats best in each , besides the new skills that are also awsome and the new professions ...
i cant imagine gw without the 3 chapters anymore. i dont miss at all that time when we had only profecies no sorrow furnace and no uw/fow ...
Prophecies was a perfect experience since it has new for all of us but Nightfall is the best of the bests with Heroes system, perfect PvE and environments, and perfectness of new races which are amazing Dervishes with lots of avatars and really motivating Paragons.

Welcome to the Caribbean, luv.
Prophecies is my favorite because of pre-searing and the very gentle learning curve. It's the most "noob-friendly."
Factions is my favorite because of the total grind-free levelling and very fast-pace to the whole game there.
Nightfall is my favorite because, as someone who has beaten the other two exclusively with henchies, heroes are a godsend.
When you have all three, you have the best Guild Wars Arenanet has to offer, no matter which one you prefer.
The newbie experience is very smooth in Prophecies, and I like that. I love the starting area, both pre-searing ascalon and post-searing. Factions has the worst newbie area ever. Prophecies, the first's always the best. And there's Rurik!
prophecies. canthas 3k xp quests should be edited btw. or passage to cantha can be moved to droknar
I need more vespene gas.

Final Fantasy 7

I don't get why they nerfed "Incoming!". At 5 secs it was underwhelming already, at 3 it's become a pure antispike skill - elite and 20r, to boot.
