    I have to agree.

The promise of Vanguard is not what we got. AC1 has more innovation than VG - and VG had 10 years of previous MMO's to see what worked and what did not. And they got it wrong. VG has so much cookie-cutter "same old stuff" in it that after playing it a month, I just don't see how they can make the claim that it is a 3rd generatrion (or even 2nd) MMO.

Like AC was in the day, the highlight of the game is the wide open zoneless world with breathtaking vistas and unique architecture. The sense of exploration, of setting out to go anywhere and find something new.

It has an attribute and skill system that reminds me of AC.

The different human races and their different town styles is just like AC.

The PvP server is a free for all, like darktide.

Funny someone posted this.  AC was the first MMO that I put a lot of time into and one that I always think of when I play a new one.  I had the best experience in online game playing AC and I do feel the same thing when VG.   It also reminds me of UO as well, I think its safe to say it has a lot in common with the oldschool games.

Bought AC in 99 quit and rejoined several times. quit permanently now but it was my best experience in online gaming too BY far. the beta was amazing and Ive never subscribed to another mmorpg... don't have a good enough comp to play VG or I would check that out... id like to get the wonder back of AC.

EDIT: nm, i have to agree with people above - no way does VG have the amazing game play that AC did, i too would still be palying if it had better graphics 9 years later (and less changes to make it more old school)..

i didnt even try wow when it came out because its so dumb... an easy game where getting to top level is no accomplishment.

i hope for a game that is almost comparable to AC to come out. any contenders coming out in 07? Wonder if LOTR online by turbine will be good..

My first day on AC years ago I was lost.  A guy named Deric Windhamsun (still remember him) came up to me and offered some help.  I became his vassal and he showed me the ropes.  He and the guild became my friends and I enjoyed not only the game but the community as well.  I haven't been able to find that kind of community since.  I love the customization of AC as well.  A million different ways to customize your characters.  The lore OMG the lore and the events were awesome!  Each month you couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next.  I've been searching and hoping for a remake of the old AC or something that compares.  There just isn't anything.  I tried to explain to my Wife, who's into WoW and its her first and only MMO, and I just can't do it justice.  I would pay them $20 / month if they'd revamp it with today's graphics and tweak the combat system a little.  It's a shame.  Turbine is selling out just like all the other game developers.  I'm currently play Vanguard as well.  Some of the same feeling is there, but I don't think it's going to be "the one" either.  Maybe we are hoping for something that will never come.  Another thing I think that made the community so special is that you weren't dealing with the really young kids either.

One of my fondest memories was a guild run, sorry don't remember the dungeon, and we all buffed up, went in and found ourselves being overrun by gold tuskers I think it was.  People were screaming to not give up, keep healing the guys up front, take care of the healers, hold the line!  Hold the line!!  When it was all said and done those of us that were left were standing in a pile of bodies both friend and foe and the blood was still pumping.  All we knew now was to move on before the respawn.  NOTHING has compared to that to this day.  I've played them all, nothing compares.

TarValon, you should be able to play Vanguard with your current system... I play with an AMD 2800+, 1gig of RAM, and an Nvidia geforce 6200. Granted my system doesnt allow me to play at high graphics settings, but i dont have to run on lowest. The .ini tweaks that you can do really make a huge difference and is what made the game playable for me.  I do lag a bit in town, but the game is fun and runs at a playable speed.
What are the .ini ttweaks? Where can I find them. I would love to be able to try it out, after I bought it.

I'm from the AC1 generation as well, and so is an old friend of mine, and I can't find that AC1 experience either. I shoulda never quit! But I did, and I doubt I'll be going back. The two games I'm looking forward to are Hero's Journey, and Pirates of the Burning Sea. I'm also thinking of taking a look at Dungeon Runners. Maybe one of those three will have what I'm looking for. Maybe. :D

It only makes sense to go from AC to AOC!

AOC. . .maybe. They've gotta be careful if they're gonna do it right, I mean, it's Robert E. Howard's world, after all, and if they're not up to the task they can easily fuck it up. So I'm wary, but yeah, I'm kinda watching that one too. :D

Vanguard couldn't hold a candle to AC in terms of gameplay and fun.  I played AC for 4 years and had a blast.  I played Vanguard for 2 months and left out of boredom, bugs, and performance issues (and my computer is pretty darned good).  IMO, AC will always be a legend in MMO history.  Vanguard will always be a game that "had potential"

The graphics aren't even all that great in Vanguard  -- yes, they're a wold better than AC, but they are not all that by today's standards.

i'm sick of waiting around for developers to come out with another game like AC. i'm thinking about starting a petitioning site to show demand for a game with the same gameplay as AC but with a new graphics engine. being involved in grassroots legislation for years this is a basic tactic in getting laws passed. we show a demand, then present it to developers and sell our endorsement. it may be a long shot, but i don't want to wait anymore, i want to play another AC.

Aaaah good old ac.  My first love.  I was blown away, got it a few months after it was released and played my a** off for years.  Dr deth's my moniker from that game.  Yeah why is it so freakin hard to make a game where you pump attributes and actually have it make a difference in the physic's engine part of the game.  Had some of the best freakin times in ac1!!!!! LOL.  Played for like 5 years, left to try something "better" and never found it.  Actually thinking of coming back to it....that's what led me back to this part of the forums!!!

/me seconds the motion for Ac3

    I LOL'ed.

Damn I miss old school AC. At the same time, I do find it humorous that so many people rag on all the new MMO's for following the same ol' tried and true formula, yet people are willing to lay in traffic for a game that duplicates AC. Now, don't get me wrong, I want nothing more than to experience the old-school AC again, but I won't bash the new MMO's for not replicating it.

P.S. Anyone here hail from Frostfell who remembers all the powerful guilds? I was trying to remember them and the only ones I came up with were HellHawk, Animal, The Pyreal Tower, Koyotae...and...ugh, i forget.

AC still is the best online game I ever played. No other game -haven't tried Vanguard- even comes close.

AC (retired); EQ (retired); DAoC (retired); Horizons (retired); EQII (retired); CoH (retired); AC II (tested); Lineage II (beta); Neocron (tested); Saga of Ryzom (beta); SWG (retired)...

If they ever optimize the engine and make the game stable and squash a good majority of the bugs, I could see it being a decent comparison to Asheron's Call when it comes to wide open areas.
I have a AMD X2 3800, 1.5 gig ram, and a 7900gt and I almost never even get lag let alone a frame rate drop.  I think you either need to get with the times and go dual core, or you need to clean up your computer because it should run better then that.

I loved that I could play AC very effectively on my own, whereas Vanguard is very much built to be a grouping game. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not an AC thing. I don't think you'll be seeing anything in the later levels of Vanguard like the one-against-a-hundred odds you'd find in Matron hives or Tusker dens. I liked that I needed friends to complete some of the big quests in AC, but I don't want a whole game based on that concept. I like stopping to smell the roses and having the ability to change what I'm doing as the whim strikes me. The need to group just to advance at a tolerable rate really makes my preferred MMO activities impractical. Sure, you make much better experience in AC while in a full group these days, but you can still do extremely well on your own.

Most classes in VG can solo. Not all very well however. There are a number of classes (disciples, clerics & necro's to name a few) who can solo very well. The trick is to know the game well. You have to know the differences between the various "mob" classes and what is a good challenge for your chosen class. Also you must totally understand the dots rating system. Soloing a three dot 3 levels above you is near impossible for many classes, but a 2 dot or a 1 dot 3 levels above you is usually doable. Quests can be soloed so long as your not taking on quests above your level. The only thing you can't solo is the group inteneded quests (that say "group" in the quest journal). Dont get me wrong. VG is highly group oreinted and you will gain much faster exp by grouping but there is always a way to solo with ANY class in VG, you just need to find the right location and the right mobs. Expecting to solo everything is unreasonable, and would make for a very boring game (eg: WoW pre-raids).

I have to agree that Vanguard is not AC.  I played AC for many years and nothing compares to the overall experience.  I made good friends and had a great time.  Turbine won't do anything else with the AC series and it's a shame.  I'd bet if we could magically update the graphics and hand it to the community to play they'd agree just how amazing it is.  Maybe I'm just old...lol.

    Still searching.....to no avail......
