What really needs to be done about SWG in 5 easy steps.

1. Lucas Arts needs to give SOE the pink slip.

2. Hire on a new company to develop a completely new Star Wars MMORPG from the ground up.

3. Contract the new company that developed the new Star Wars MMORPG to manage the game after launch.

4. Get the game distributed by someone other than SOE.

5. Profit while at the same time regaining the faith of the original SWG fan base.

 

All this mess about Pre-CU is a waist of time.  The game is old and broken beyond repair.  What you can do as a fan is to put the sticks down and leave the dead horse alone.  Write or e-mail Lucas Arts asking for a new Star Wars MMORPG to be developed by some other company.  A clean start is what this situation truly needs.

People laugh at me less now --- I always said, "Fire the entire team and get a new support group".... 

I can honestly say this game needs a do over.

But now I fear it is really to late, they need to ride this out --- milk it and then make a new one.

Unfortunately they have been milking folks for a long time.



For example, they admit they need to do server merges.  If they admit it, why are they still charging folks an outrageous amount to do a cross server move?  This is the worst example I have seen yet.

Oh I agree.... it is a joke,  but it's over I think.

Server merge talks are on the table, pretty much the second this gets pushed is when we can all cheer and say -- "Yep we told you".

BUT I miss the old game and a SW based MMO...

I do hope someone somewhere is working on a second one... NOT SOE

its funny.. if you go in the Chat rooms....

it has no CSR in there for help...

and the banner still says... during the new NGE the chat room would be down or something.... i forgot .. but says something about the NGE and thats why no CSR's are in there lol

funny thing was.... its been up since NGE hit!! lol

Back on topic.  SWG should have been simply sunset pre-cu if they had no intention of doing a descent job polishing and refining the product.  This half assed approach towards fixing real issue that the pre-cu had with the CU and then the NGE just proves the old adage.  "If you cannot do it right, do not do it at all."  They have not spent the resources or the energy on these projects to make them successful.  The net result is obviously going to be failure.

Its mind boggling really how lame the NGE development cycle has been.  Its beyond slow and lazy.  They are either paralyzed with fear of changing anything now, or simply dont have the personal to do the job anymore. 

On SOE's real problem of doing a pre-cu swg I think this has more to do with back end database issues.  I believe the NGE came along with a backend database conversion which is probably the viability issue they discuss.  Just something I remember reading about SOE and SWG.

Yep at one time I know it was using informix as one -- but that was beta... not sure what happend since then Oracle etc..

BUT none the less...  it is now just one big pimple on SOEs face.   Sooner or later they will get rid of it... if SOE put up a poll asking if they would try Vanguard or not based on SOE being ivolved I think they would see the result of that.

They know this failed, it's obvious but in the same token, they are now trying to get as much as they can before it folds..

I hear through the grape vine that Helios and Grant are both looking for other jobs...

If LEC contracted another company to do these 5 steps, I'd be part of the new SWG in a heartbeat.  Nothing less will do though, and unfortunately I don't think LEC is going to go the 3-4 years it would take to develop a new SW-themed MMO without another being on the market.  Corporate greed FTW.

1-Classic Server at pub 8 with bug fixes up to 13..or even up to pub 13 as long as its precu.....

Classic Servers up to half a year ago may have garnered a respectable influx of old players coming back but I think that pipe dream is finally over as is any hope of a SWG that the vast majority of us once loved.  

In my opinion most folks have found other vices to occupy their spare time and even if they finally brought back classic servers there will never be a mass migration back to SWG.  They missed their window of opportunity a long time ago.

My prediction for the year is that John Smedley will get a huge retirement package on the lines of Home Depot and Exxon's outgoing CEO's, start hanging out with Paris Hilton then end up on the tabloids because he got snapped getting out of the car sans panties.

I never thought I would say this, but IF classic servers WERE brought back now, I may be too jaded to hop on that bandwagon.



SOE has demonstrated OVER & OVER they will not take care of their customers, so if they release classic servers, count me out. 



You are right.....they missed their chance some time ago.
