What Vanguard has that EQ2 can't begin to compare to:

    - A huge open and zoneless world.

    - An interactive crafting system unlike any other MMORPG.

    - You can use diplomacy to advance yourself, you can alter the world with your diplomacy, and the act of diplomacy itself is a skill based card game.

    - Player housing, guild owned towns, and the potential for this being a staging ground for PvP conflict in the future as guard towers are already supported.

    - Boatmaking and customization.

    - A more interactive combat system than EQ2 with reactions and sympathetic powers, and much more.

    - The basis for the most advanced character creation system outside of City of Heroes. Things like more hair styles and clothing options can easily be plugged into the existing system.
While I like both games, at this date EQII is miles ahead of Vanguard in more areas than polish.

    -Combat system.

    -Animations.

    -Audio

    -Graphics

    -AI

Now..In a year or so I believe Vanguard will surpass EQII in these areas but they've allot of work to do.

Right now Everquest 2 is like playing an interactive Pixar movie.  The graphics and voiceovers are top notch and a midrange computer can run it at high settings.  If you want a game that'll really push a sub $200 graphics card and looks and sounds amazing, EQ2 is perfect for that.

For me the gameplay is the problem.  They've borrowed alot from WoW(which I still enjoy playing) but in EQ2 it feels artificial and it just didn't hook me.  It feels like they intentionally made the game easy to play.  I don't know what they can do to fix that.

Vanguard I played during the stress test a week before launch and, well there's not much good I can think of to say about it.  The newbie game is not the hardcore experience that EQ was.  It's really just another ripoff of WoW's smart design.  Everything hardcore EQers complained about is there, from easy leveling to "cheat" icons/labels hovering over NPC's heads.  I heard it gets harder as you level but I wasn't interested in finding out.

Graphically the game is poorly optimized and will not run well on a midrange system.  Don't let Vanguard fanboys snooker you into buying the game under the impression that a budget or midrange card will run it sufficiently.  That's a lie.  It's one thing to mislead people about the gameplay but the graphics performance is not good.  The characters, animations, spells and environments are not well done.  There's obviously alot of technical wizardry in the texturing but it's actually not pretty to look at.

Just one note. Eq2 was released before WoW, so hard to borrow something
