Nice to meet everyone here.
i am a senior pcgame plays in china.
EQ was my favourate onlinegame.but is falled in china. People all thinks that the American games not adapt to chinses player.
but 1 year later wow became a the most popular game in china. Before the game came in the market every expert said wow will be the next EQ , but finallly it succeed. Watched that the Sony came back with EQ2 , but lost in china again.
I still don't know why chinese like wow so much but never try EQ2...
what u think about these two games?what is the most important differences between them?
Comments
Eq2 surpasses wow in almost every aspect except for 3 things in my opinion
-WoW's seemless world is awsome and i really like it
-WoW's art for a while was way better, but eq2 has gottena new art team and there art is now catching up
-The original wow world was done much better, infact im beginign to think the original eq2 desiners were on crack when they came up wiht the shaterd lands idea...thank god they are getting away from that
anyway, id point you to eq2..you wont be disapointed
The new EQ2, better than ever befor !

Everybody compares WoW to everything else. Lets make believe that WoW didn't exist. If it didn't, then EQ2 would be prime material. I like it personally I just dont like all the zoning.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
EQ2 is not as polished though and contains much zoning between each map piece of the world. If that doesnt bother you or you have a strong PC go with EQ2 above WoW unless you have a lot of friends playing WoW.

I played the trial of EQ2 and WoW in the same week and there was very little difference to me. In fact, the combat text seemed to be exact duplicates of each other. The combat itself is almost the same too except in WoW the attacks seemed to have better animations and was more accurate when someone gets struck.
Still, both games seem very same in the way that the combat engine was primarily made in the text window and graphics applied to it as an afterthought. That technology is ancient and does not add very much realism to the combat itself.
I only played each one for a couple days and neither made me feel compelled to play more. EQ1 on the other hand was addictive right from the start but I've played better games and my standards got higher since then. Anarchy Online had a fantastic combat model, but got old eventually. SWG was even better (pre-CU of course) and had superb lush graphics unmatched by any games since. CoH/CoV still has the best combat model ever. I'm so spoiled now.
thx, I am planning to play NorthAmerica Sever.:P
Obadno,
Your profile says that you're 27 years old. That's old enough to know how to spell words correctly and how to use punctuation unless you recently fried half of your brain replacing a fan in your computer or you were typing using a sledge hammer. Come on, use a spell checker, the OP is obviously still learning English. I'm not perfect, either, but come on, you know there's some truth in what I'm saying.

To the original poster,
The most obvious differece between EQII and WoW is that WoW is very easy to play. The controls of WoW are easier to learn, and the entire game seems much more simple to play than EQII. But, the most important reason why WoW is more popular than EQII is that WoW is more fun to play. The ease of use is part of that reason. Another part of the reason is, as Obadno stated, WoW has a lot of open spaces. When you are running or riding your horse through the WoW world it seems very realistic compared to EQII which has so many instanced areas that you are constantly reminded it is a game instead of another world. For these reasons, more players in Asia, Europe and the Americas naturally go to WoW because most gamers want to have the most fun as soon as possible in any game they play.
You disagree? Then you must be who we're looking for!
thanks KaptainZerg
It's really hard to understand Obandor's word for a english leaner.
and thanks your answer. I don't want compare the history of EQ2 and WOW, but because of WAR3 ,most chinese young people knows the story happend in war3 bu little people knows the histroy of EQ2.And i admit that WoW is better to a normal player but EQ2 will be better liked by senior players.
but i stil have a doubt . Why wow brings the system of America game ,and most people acceptted it ,after all this the EQ2 falled again?
Teh fatc taht yuo tkhin age has agnythin to do whit sgpellin abilties, epxlains why yuo wuold evre be "most blocked poster of 2006 MMORPG.com"
IMO Obadnos post was right on the spot, but you had to cough up this arrogant paragraph....sigh.
You must have a very hard time reading forum-boards in general, am I right?
Although english by no means is my native language, i COULD use some of my time pointing out where YOUR spelling was off or where YOU apparently used some unnamed gardeningtool to type your posts, but as i don't have a dictionary severely stuck up my behind, i'm able to un-clench my cheeks and let it all loose in a toilet instead of in a post on the Internet.....
Excuse me for farting.

Language is just a tool of communication.
Obviouslsy u know what i mean.so that's enough, right?
Abnesher:
I am just a player,i just want my answer or dicussing with the others ,and your post ruined the dicussion.
ok ,let's stop now and goback to the title.I will lie to myself that i havn't seen anythings came out from your mouth ,oh sorry, maybe your cheeks :P
I think EQ2 suffered from many ailments which made it less successful then WoW. It had high system specs, they released a blatantly unfinished game, the art direction wasn't all there, forced grouping as a time sink, excessive costs to keep up with (Game, adventure packs, and expansion packs)
thanks CleffyII
I wannar know how much I have to pay for EQ2 now on NorthAmerica Server(Game, adventure pack ,and explansion packs)
And why u waiting for Ragnarok oline2, the Korea game is boring, just kill the same monters veryday:P
Littlesnail, i'm very sorry for getting your thread off track. I just felt that KaptainZerg ruined Obadno great answer to your question, but i'm gonna stop my rantin' now and speak with my mouth instead
What i first wanted to post was actually, that Obadno did post a very valid answer to your question. I agree with him in his opinions of some of the differencies between EQ2 and WoW. I have played both games, and they were both most enjoyable and polished.
IMO it seems like thee employ a lot of the same concepts, although i feel that EQ2 takes it all just a tad further. it's true that the combat is very similar, but there are just so many more things to do in EQ2 than in WoW. Be it XP'ing for tradeskills, XP'ing for adventurepoints, XP'ing for statuspoints or XP'ing for guildstatus. There are many ways to have fun in EQ2 apart from the ordinary character-leveling perspective.
Have fun in whichever game you choose

thanks your anwser.both of you.
infact i agree with obadno's viewpoint. The problem for me is that how to make normal people in china taste the fun of EQ2 and enjoy it. Directly speaking i am working in a onlinegame company in china, and i really want find some way to connect Chinese plays to America games.
and sorry for my rude words:P
RO2 is ranked high in my note too.I don't know whether U have played RO. The charactor in RO is so cute that attract me for a long time, and the abbility system is perfect too. The only shortcoming is that evrything u can do in the game is killing monster and find better items, like all Korean games .
So i am really be taken aback that there American players like the game built on monster hunting :P
EQ2 takes wow by complexity, diversity, classes, skills ... well basically everything else
except
WoW takes EQ2 in art design , playerbase , world lore , wow world also feels much more alive
All in all EQ2 and WoW are fairly similar games with diferent look to them. But wow has vastly bigger playerbase
"Before this battle is over all the world will know that few...stood against many." - King Leonidas
FFXI is doing good in japan, because of his franshise. It is the best EQ clone, in my opinion.
Lineage and L2, are the most played games in korea - they are grind games were you spend many time kiling the same mobs(you have many spots to farm but...) it seems to me that korean players like pvp games that take you a long time to get the max level, and with few content(things to do beside kiling mobs to gat max level, do pvp raids and pve raids).
I tend to see chinese games, like fast paced games, fast action, diablo stile, probably that made WoW sucesfull there, i know MU is the most sucesfull game there, but i dont know that game mechanics.
Most sucesfull games here in US/Eu are EQ´s and EVE (ignoring WoW) games with many things to do and hard to get in them.WoW grown here because popularity, it have a good franchise, so many war3 fans got in to it, and called all the friends that never heard about MMO´s before(it is an easy game to start).I belive WoW only sucess here will be for a few time, we usualy like games that we can spnd years playng, and we can call it a home, see how many Vanguard fanboys, and old SWG ex players we have at this bords.
Just my opinion, you have here 4 difrent markets.
One more thing, EQ2 is much beter than WoW to me, EQ2 is probably the best MMO Fantasy game out there.
PS. I am sorry for my bad english. My main language isnt english. Please respect that.
Good to see a fellow chinese player interested in a US game for once. Hehe, anyways! Let me throw my oppinion in here for you. Everquest 2 or WoW? To me, this is a hard question. But I think what it mainly comes down to is do you want fun easy play, a game with mainly just quests? Or do you want a little more indepth game, with a bit of housing and character customization? To me, Everquest 2 is a step ahead of WoW, mainly because of the graphics, the "chain" system, and the housing system that they have. The only thing that bugs me about Everquest 2, compared to WoW, would be the world and the zoning. The world in Everquest 2 is so bland, you'll know what I'm talking about when you have to go to Antonica over and over for quests. I don't know how the newer lands are, but from what I hear, they are better. Plus, zoning. You can either look at this as a problem or a good thing. Alot of people like the little break when they zone to a new area, which I can say isn't that bad. But it does get on your nerves when you are trying to do a quest where you have to go back and forth between two zones. The good thing about Everquest 2 is that they thought about the chinese and korean group when making the game. They have a "normal" character customization model, and the "oriental" character customization, where the characters take on a "anime" kind of look. They are very nice looking.
Overall, Littlesnail, it comes down to what YOU want. Do you want to just have a game to log on with friends and play for a bit, or do you want a game where you can actually live in and are required to do a bit more grouping?
Oh and one more thing, the quests in Everquest 2 are more interesting than WoW, in my oppinion.
Hope this helps.

If you’re really want to know, I never put down my real info on websites because I personally believe that such an action would be unbeneficial to the security of my identity.
But if you must know I am 17 years old, I am a junior in high school and I currently hold an A in English
I have written many essays, and for your information, I can’t spell very well probably do to these types of things where usually spelling is a secondary concern
I have been playing mmos’ since I was 11 years old starting with eq1 I’ve tried a lot of them and you can take my word on what I say to be more than the biased utterances of an eq2 fan boy, because I’m not. I actually have a lot of beefs with eq2 because I think it has a lot of potential if the devs’ aren’t afraid to be bold
I spelled a bit better here, hope you like it!!!!!
The new EQ2, better than ever befor !

Well said. I dont try to bother about being way accurate when chatting in game and forum setting since most of us have a brain that functions without getting hung up on that kind of detail.
And as far as WoW Vs EQ2 I spent most of my time playn UO and came very close to bagn UO for EQ when it launched but i didnt. I didnt get WoW until 7 months ago and i have to say I am pleased with the game itself. Mainly due to the people that play it. Are the players in EQ very helpful? Because they are in WoW, and unlike UO i never have to worry about harrasment because ther eis a big unwritten understanding that it is not tolerated. Can EQ say the same? I dont know. I also play WoW for the crazy goal of reaching that that crazy lvl of 60 which since BC has beocme lvl 70...woe is me aye que pena!!!!! Ill just have to settle for the late 50s. Just my 14cents....... And if anyone has an EQ2 trial code i would be interested in tryn it out still as its been 7+ years since launch i believe and im still wondering about it.
Players should always remember gaming is very HARD work and Players should step away from activities for a time to rub lips with your wife and kids. But remember keep it short as prolonged attention my encourage longer sessions.
Obadno was clearer and more concise in his posting listing the differences between EQ2 and WoW then KaptainZerg. In fact KaptainZerg you came off sounding more like a jackass then anything else.

However let's be honest here, WOW is superior to EQII and the others in the two areas that count most to todays young MMO players.
Fun and ease of gameplay .
THAT is why WOW has 8 million subscribers, today's MMO players want to get in and play right away..
WOW allows them to do just that .
