Hey, I'm a new guy here on the forums, but I've played SWG for about 2 years before the CU. The upgrade wasn't such a big deal to me because I never did a lot of combat. I was saving up money to get some good stuff and eventually I'd build up some combat skills. I stopped playing about a month before the NGE, so I really didn't have any idea what happened. Then, about a year ago, I wanted to check the game out and I read the forums about people hating the new update. I went to check it out for myself. For some reason, when I signed on, they had given me a free month. Thank God for that. I played the game for 5 minutes and haven't touched it since until today. I installed it just to see if maybe they had given me another free month, but that's not the case this time. I've tried other MMORPGs such as Dungeons and Dragons and the highly overrated World of Warcraft. They didn't tickle my fancy the way SWG did. Well, I'm not gonna get into the whole story right now. I'll just get to my main point.
It's been over a year since the NGE, and I have to say that I'm still surprised to see us "Veterans" still in an uproar over the change, and honestly, I'm happy about that. I now know I'm not the only one that feels the same way to this very day, and the community is very active. I guess I underestimated the number of loyal fans there were to the original game. Keep it up, guys.

Never before, had a game promoted such a strong community, This is not because SoE is great, or because the right people came to live in the SW world, god no there were punks too
It's because, SW:G was unique in the fact that it broke the holy trinity, and immersed each profession with interdependence upon another. People would become friends with others, just by going to a catinia, or the hospital, or shopping at somebodies store. Now in a game like Everquest, or in WoW, how many times has somebody been inside of an inn, or a tavern, and made very strong friendships? many, maybe. but nowhere near as many as in SWG. People in other games meet others through groups, and hunting, in SWG, you'd meet people no matter what you did.
This environment has created the strongest and most determined playerbase i've seen in a very long time. (excluding games where politics are part of the game, see EvE or L2) I remember when i trolled the forums, they weren't full of nerf threads, but rather constructive posts about how to make their own classes compress better unto others. This was within the 1st year of launch, and nothing came to it.
watching SoE ignore their forums, tingled a bell in the back of my mind, and soon enough became a strong foreshadow.

You're statement is so poetic, and very true.
I wish it wasn't true, it would be great to find a playerbase like that in another game, some have come close, but never has a game topped it. kind of a shame eh?
I still keep in touch with people i met on the day SW:G launched
Shadowfire Server,
Phoenix Rising
R.I.P. Ine Ackanohe
and R.I.P. to everyone else who has died with him.
