    I take this opportunity to ask a question ;) I tried to make screenshots but it seems it doesnt work for me. Using the key for screenshots seems to do nothing. Typing /screenshot seems to do something. The game stops for a second at least. But i couldnt find any picture on my harddrive. Not somewhere in the Vanguard folder and not in my document folder. Any hints ?

    the default screenshot button is the numberpad minus key.  It will put it in your VanguardScreenshots folder.  If you changed the key, I don't know what to say.

    Highest quality tweaked a bit with texturedetailworld at 5 which is the 6th best out of 8. Here's another from beta...

    great pics, the drawing distance alone makes even me want to play it.

    But i think ill wait 6 or so months for them to finish the game.

    Ok, I was playing in the INI and I found 2 things that shot my FPS through the roof.  I don't know what the image quality difference is, but I wne through and took some screens at max settings on the following system:

    AMD 3500+ Winchester

    Leadtek 6800GT 256 PCIe

    2G DDR 333MHz RAM

    vgclient.ini:

    [General]

    ShowBloom=True

    GrassDensity=1.000000

    bShowClouds=True

    bUseHDR=True

    bUseToneMapping=True

    DetailMode=3

    RenderQuality=5

    iShaderCacheSizeMB=64

    Antialiasing=0

    AnisotropicFiltering=16

    MaxStaticLights=16

    [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]

    DetailTextures=True

    UsePrecaching=True

    UseTrilinear=False

    ReduceMouseLag=False

    UseTripleBuffering=False

    UseCubemaps=False

    DesiredRefreshRate=60

    UseVSync=True

    UseNPatches=False

    DisableShaderModel3=True  (this may have been the ticket, but again, it didn't seem to change the "look")

    DisableMultiGPUOpt=True

    DisableHighDetailShaders=True  (this is another fishy one.  Increased FPS, little to no change.  Ill have to snap comparison shots)

    the INI enties I edited should make the game look horrid, but I would have to compare these shots against someone with a card that has full shader support.

    85% JPGs from bitmaps (in the INI change the picture format to BMP if your curious/want high quality shots)

    and to save you all from having to download these 99% JPGs on the forums:

    useHDR should be off if you want some more performance. So far I can't even tell that it does anything much but turning HDR off (high dynamic range) improves performance.

    Could you also post some pics with an fps monitor displayed while moving, to silence some critics?  Thanks.

  • SniperfireSniperfire Member Posts: 83
    hmm thats interesting.... cool screen shots guys. thats kinda weird how just one slider that makes the game look almost the same, just destroys your FPS....

    as for the guy above: F10 hides the UI then hit - on your num pad to take the picture. then you wanna go to a image hosting site like tinypic.com and upload from your C:Program FilesSonyVanguardScreenShots after that click the insert/edit image button when posting copy the link from tinypic scale it down and BAM! screenshots

    ive got a 750 watt power supply which will run two cards fine because i only put one harddrive in it and the case is a Antec Sonata II that has one fan in the back which is plenty,it set me back close to 4000$ with the monitor . It runs cool enough put it does shot some warm air out the back which is great where i live it will help heat the house lol

    I normally run with it off (I even had to turn tone mapping off for the blackness bug), but after editing the two shader values in the INI and seeing little difference graphically and tons of FPS, I decided to crank everything else up to see what it was like.  I will eventually turn most of them down cause I want to be able to take on some smooth dungeon runs.  (It was still playable, but sometimes my card would decide to break step and I don't want to deal with it.)  I was more amazed at what my 6800GT could do!  I loved the visibility range it granted.

    I ran from the cliffs by Lomshir (in my first picture) to Hathor Zhi snapping photos all along, the FPS dipped at times, but was right back up in no time.  I just can't wait to get home, tweak it down a bit and go exploring again.
