Thats what excited me about this game, the fact that its going out of its way to make a dent in the already monotonous MMORPG market filled with useless MMOs.
You know, there was another MMORPG that came before this with the exact same story. Small, inexperienced dev team with limited funding. Saying they're going to break the mold. Hyped like crazy. The game's called Dark & Light.

ah yes, when everything else fails, you can always make a stupid comparison to another game

Wrong actually.  They used to be a small team till they found a publisher.  That was back in 02 when they had "finished" the game.

But they found a publisher, moved to greece and have had 20 people or so working full time for the last 3-4 years (about how long WoW took I believe).  They did this because they want to get things right.

In contrast to dark and light they haven't realsed the game before it's ready despite the demand.  They will release it when they are sure it's ready and are taking the time and effort to get things right.  This is why myself and a lot of other players believe this will be a quality game and deliver most of what it promises.

Because it's a newer technology they don't want to touch and I can't imagine the bandwidth usage at the sametime. Sending countless sockets at an alarming rate (FPS Rate) from around 10,000 players.. yea good luck to this game.
they are vetran players them selfs and they wont fail im sure of it its just that you guys dont see some big names and money behind it you think it will fail then thats narrow minded and short sighted:P

    I like it...

Reminds me somewhat of Oblivion, how the hip movements screw up the way the fighting looks (bow courteously when hit, stretch hamstrings when hit...)

Is it twitch based, or the same 'klik+speshul atak+klik agen+supre speshul atak'...?

Problem is, many many games promise a ton of new and different things and the closer to release you get, the more reality sets in and how they cut out all the cool extra stuff and how you are left with a game very similar to the rest out there.

I have yet to see a game live up to all the crap they make up pre-beta, and all the trailer footage they show pre-beta.  IF this game delivered on what they are advertising in things like that video, THEN I'll go buy the game.

It's not difficult to make a game with the combat features that Darkfall is promising. I wouldn't put it past a small development team. That's assuming, of course, that you're talking about a game with a max of two dozen people per server. Realtime naval combat with players free to move around the ships in a MMORPG? At the same time that thousands of players are engaging in FPS combat against NPC's elsewhere? Even if you put together a team of two-hundred comprised of the best from Epic, Blizzard, and id, I don't think you could pull that off without a huge development cycle or the game being unplayably laggy and buggy.

I dont care what anyone says, you have to admit, its different, its a first and it looks pretty damn fun.

Many of us have said it would be vaporware, i seriously hope it isnt now.

Firstly I am no fan of twitch games however I enjoyed AC if its that sort of level aim and shoot I am fine with it. I would also hope that if you have 100 in flamestrike you are gonna do better than someone with in 10 in flame strike as long as you land a couple.  (dark fall is skill based like UO rather than level based).

I really hope it dosen't turn out to be another D&L. It was pretty obvious that was a complete donkey from SoG onwards. I guess we will find out soon enough.

I really hope they get it right. At least it has some fun mechanics back in it (if delivered) that  demon McQuaid removed from the genre in EQ1. Be nice to have real choices in a MMO again lets hope DF delivers them.

Just because they released a vid doesn't mean the game is really in development.

From the looks of the vid, I'd say that they're probably using the Torque engine, or Sauerbraten run over a LAN. They did do most of the artwork it seems. Even if they didn't do any of the character modeling, they did a damn fine job of reskinning and animating. That still seems like a lot of work to just waste on a scam though.

Five bucks says this will just be a multiplayer game. They may even go the Minions of Mirth / Neverwinter Nights route and allow players to run their own persistent worlds with player caps of about 200, but the cost to run 10K players on a dedicated twitch server will probably be to much for a small dev team.

The movement reminds me a lot of the elder scrolls combat.

Purely in aesthetically speaking, that's not something that really appeals to me.

I can't see how anyone can think Darkfall as a scam, these guys have dedicated 7 years of their lives for this, they are using their own names, so if it did end up as a scam, their names would be put to shame and they would never get a job in the industry again. They would need to get millions out of it to be even worth the effort, how would they do that? Nope, scam it is not. Another failed game it may end up being, but I'm willing to give these guys a shot before judging.

2.I suggest you go read more about this before you give away that 5 bucks of yours, because there is no way in hell Darkfall will be a multiplayer game. It would work as a multiplayer game about as well as EVE.
