The reason Runescape is so big is that it's old. Personally, I hate the runescape system mainly because I don't like point-and-click games. Hence why some MMORPG's bother me. Back to the point, because of Runescape being 1. free 2. old 3. 3D(even though its old 3D) people began to like it during its earlier days. Now that people have grown stronger and whatnot they don't want to leave anything behind.
Now, generally once all these free MMORPGs get out there, people might slowly turning their heads away from RuneScape.
The only problem with free MMORPGs is that it takes money to advertise, but also money to pay your design/tech team.
However, if you look at a lot of the recent games, most of them have millions of players.
Runescape isn't impressive anymore, it was 5 years ago, but not anymore.
There are a lot of BETTER MMORPGs out there than runescape.
But yea, the only reason Runescape is big is because its old and free.
Do you understand what he's trying to say, blah40000? You said that only between 200k and 250k actively play RS, but in a single day 1,900k accounts logged in. Now, even if HALF of those account were people not actually playing then you're still wrong because that leaves about 1 million people in 24 hours. To add to that..do you think everyone who actively plays is going to log in every day? doubtful. That's a hell of a lot of people.
*I'd just like to say that the numbers that im using i got completely from the quotes in that argument so if any of them are incorrect don't flame my ass off.

x=100,000 players
y = people not playing that day
n = number of people actively using accounts that day
[(19x) / 2] + y = n
EDIT: Ok so my one flaw is the whole "2 years ago" thing but at this moment 207274 people are actually playing...I still doubt that over 80% of the RS is playing right this second.

i told you to forget about it and they would just say they have how many or more people you say play because they count each account as one individual person.
at most they would have around 500k people who play.

iv played for 4.5 or so years and i found it dull after lvl 80...sure graphix are a little egdy...lets see you make something better
sounds ok...exept new sound when you equip and unequip.yes the community is pretty bad including scammers...yes there are games that are free may seem better...but rs so far has made me want to play the most.....4.5 years is impresive...membership for 2-3 years....i duno its kinda fun since my best friend plays...

i played for about 5 so i know what your talking about but it just got boring trying to get every skill to 60 on free severs.
