The game looks wonderful, but its just gonna be another medieval grindfest game lacking any originality, minus the flying. I honestly wish companies would get past the "Knights, wizards, and dragons" theme.
I believe Aion deserves the hype for a few reasons:
i) The quality of the graphics are better than in any other mmorpg I have seen and the game actually has a good artistic style - which is something I believe a lot of developers overlook (and put too much emphasis on the technical aspect of the graphics, for example when Vanguards graphics are compared to AIONs they look bland, even though they are hardware intensive).
ii) Free-flight, this is the first mmorpg I've seen which has this. It might only keep me entertained for a while, but it looks interesting.
iii) Quality - Even from the demo movies available it's clear it will be a quality production (as are all NCSoft games), I expect less bugs and more polish than most new games out there.
iv) PVP balance, if one side is losing they will be aided by the dragon race npc - this might seem trivial but it's not fun to play on a forever losing side.
Obviously there is more to look forward to than what the public has yet found out about this game.
A good player base can turn a good game great - so I look forward to more hype
i may be dedicate myself to aion! i will make aion my new home mmorpg! aion is in my super S rank list! along with zera if it ever comes out for north america!
aion is the most innovative title from ncsoft.... also superb graphics that will blow ur mind!!!
I don't get how this guy can go off minimal information and call it a "B" game, he doesn't know anything about it (no one really knows the in-depth stuff).
The word niche is overplayed you should only be able to use it a max number of 0 times. GG
this game has revolutionary PvPvE and smart mobs that plan ambushes...
and for your info, asians prefer a game like L2 over WoW, NCSofts primary market is Asia, they do not care about their North American economy at all except for some bonus profit.
you ll find everything known on those links.. features, general concept, technicals etc..since you dont seem really awar of what the game has to offer.
actually the hype isnt that good imo and should be better.. this game as a huge potential and actually looks already offereing lot of the promised stuffs on playble demos at G-star.
Comparing the 8 m subscribers from blyzzad with the 3 millions of Lineage 2 is a bit silly and not occurate Blackjoke.. i can also remember you that , unlike blyzzard, Ncosft is in the mmo market in several fronts with severals games gathering a large amount af players base. If you want to compare the impact the company has in the mmo market then you should add lineage 2 & 3, guildwars, city of heros, city of vilains, auto assault to your count.. or just do not mention blyzzard
for the record, its not what a game as to offert that matter.. original or not. its the way they put everything together.. for instance blyzzard didnt invent ANY concept in WoW.. they took the best from severals mmorpgs and managed to do it pretty damn well
Aion looks impressive indeed...I loved GW's and Aion looks similar with way better graphics...I just hope it will be stronger in PvE and roleplaying aspect...GW was very weak at them...I will be looking at Aion as well as AoC...other mmo's don't really appeal to me..
The game looks wonderful, but its just gonna be another medieval grindfest game lacking any originality, minus the flying. I honestly wish companies would get past the "Knights, wizards, and dragons" theme.
Once again, to reiterate...
The developers are NOT going to make this a grind centric game. This does not mean it won't have "any" grind as we know that with many games that have leveling, you might have to repeat quests or kill something x amount of times.
But they have already said this so you won't have to worry that it is going to be another Lineage 2.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
to respond to OP, the hype is not really on Aion...all the hype is on Warhammer and AoC. it'll be funny if aion becomes more successful than those 2 while remaining low profile...who knows IMO it has potential.
After reading this thread I still fell left in the dark about this game,so I guess time will tell ,if the gameplay is as good as the graphic´s then its save to say its going to be a blinder of a game .If not its going to die an early death in the shadows of the new releases coming out this year .
I'm a bit skeptic with Aion, but... Heck, like it's been said, the cover looks pretty darn good. So if for nothing else, I'll try the game based on the graphics. Currently I expect Warhammer to be my MMO, but I won't discard any of the other great games coming up... Aion included.
(PS: Rating WoW as an A game... It made me LOL, specially considering the arguments you used to bash Aion.)
AionFuse is the place for great fan-translations of Korean articles. Team Consitancy, on the other hand, got its information probably from AionSource.com.
If you all are craving information or detailed, civil, constructive conversations about Aion, come check out AionSource.com. We're #2 for "Aion" in Google, we have an extensive gallery and a budding wiki, but most importantly, our forums are massive! I hope to see you socially-mature guys there. Leave your egos at the door.
Yea... OP doesn't seem to have a clue, NCSoft is the king of MMO Devs atm, gratz WoW has 8m subs, L1 + L2 is runnin bout 7.5m and thats only 2 of 10 titles from NC so lets stop with the zomgz WoW crap
Aion WILL NOT be a grindfest *sadening because i prefer a hefty grind*
And why does everyone seem to demand NEW NEW NEW for a game, when its the old and classics that should be looked at since they're the one's that started it all, inovation is great, but don't forget your roots.
dont know why people still say ther is nothing known about the game.. take time to read translatted stuff from last E3 and G star firt and you ll realise that we know pretty much as much as for games like AoC or WAr hammer online.
There is gameplay videos from the frist shoots that , even though they are far from being polished according to dev's, are already stunning by they gfx and the gameplay.
Its not a hardcore game suchs L2, AION pretend to be more focus on casual players exigences and let the hardcore part for the lineage sage who have the 3 th opus in dev.
the list of features are too many to be posted here and even if only half of them are actually ingame it ll still be amazing.
For the record aerial fight wasnt planned at first.. it was jsut a traveling feature necessary du to the world physics ( vertical world) but after the E3 and a few comments NCosft decided to extend it to a full fight feature.
annnnd obviously blaam doesn't read much about that game
WWW.AIONSOURCE.COM
In all actuality there really isn't much known about the physics of the game, we know the concepts pretty well.
what are you talking about ? i read pretty much everything translated in aionfuse 2/3 times. and watcehd all the vids available including the cam ones ?
Mark is a great guy and AION SOURCE ll be the major website no doubt, but as far as infos i check aionfuse first.. their team has a few korean people that translate important stuff as soon as they are annouced.
We do know alot about the planned stuff, no details on how it ll work but enough to have an idea of how it will look.. for the coding aspect i ll just have faith in NCosft experience wich is a good gramble ..... at least better than beting on a company such FUNCOM that prooved in the passt how bad at coding they are even with a very good potential and innovating game like AO.
the vids gives a good idea already... the interface used is not the one they plannign for AION, but the gameplay ll be similar ( with lot of twinkings and a few changes but overall it wont change much).
We know weather will have a major impact on the gameplay wich now days isnt something hard to do, specially in a non "one world" ( AION ll be zone based)
We know thei ll be a mic between personnal shops and auction houses unique to AION as well as guil adn personnal housing
We know the world wil be dinamic and can evolve differently from each server ( crafting ressource, mob killing etc)
We dont know much about the abyss wich ll be the main RVR area with instancied dungeons aswell though
beleive me i know pretty much everything we can about the game... and i m well aware that some might change during the dev process.. but overall they cant change everything without redesigning the whole game wich would be agaisnt all the annoucement already stated ( aion dev is going faster than exepcted).

Very understandable. While AionSource.com is the largest Aion fansite, we are not the most thorough. We do not have translators. Rather, we leave the translating to AionFuse and AionLib. AionSource.com is dedicated to only official materials. Official screenshots, artwork, article, etc.. When the official English website for Aion comes out, where will AionFuse be? Still unofficially translating Korean articles? AionSource.com will still be the largest. We'll still be the best place to discuss Aion.
like i said ( if you had read better ^^) i have no doubt on that, but as for now i like to troll on aionsource cuz the comunauty is very nice and on ainfuse because they get info before most of people ^^
so.. when did this turn into a straight-out fansite propaganda thread?
Simply put.. if you want Korean translations (they will always be nice, since internal NCsoft connections tend to not be very fast) Aionfuse is definitely the place for the english speaking ... Hellrose is a great translator and chronicler However, the place has unfortunately been rather inactive lately.
If you're more looking for just a discussion community although without much going for itself when it comes news, Aionsource is a great place. Plenty of people there. They put up news when NCsoft announce them, pretty much.
If you want it all, try Aionlib (All the news, rumors, interviews and articles, a great and growing community of nice individuals as well as extensive information in the aionwiki).
I'm not saying any of the above sites is better than the others, since they obviously have different target audiences Just try them all out, until you find one you like. We all have different preferences!

Actually, Lineage 1 has 1,5 million subscribers, and Lineage 2 has around 1,1 million subscribers. thats 2,6 million subscribers combined.

A. its made by nc-soft... they never proved me wrong so far
B. its gonna have everything that all the nc-soft games have, with free flight :O dude... u can fly and not on a mount or anything but grow wings!
C. whatever mistakes nc-soft might have done in the past there going to fix in this game, plain and simple mate, there gonna give us wat we want
